Sibling blacksmiths Kai and Nya meet a mysterious old man Master Wu, who seeks their help to train under him against the threat of his soon to return brother Garmadon and his new army of Skulkin who dominate the Underworld under leadership of former king Samukai, whom Garmadon overthrew. After Nya is abducted, Kai joins Wu's three other students, Jay, Zane, and Cole to find and protect the Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu. Note: This episode was released in some regions as a 22-minute episode along with "The Golden Weapon".
Jay is taking Nya for a ride on the Lightning Dragon, Wisp, in the Ninjago sky. Showing off, he swoops down over the rice fields and they arrive at 4 Weapons. She realizes she needs to get some things from home as she intents to live in the Monastery. Jay offers to help, but she declines and he waits outside with his dragon. Nya begins to empty her hidden weapon stock, only to be confronted by Whiplash and skeletons.
The Ninja, while Sensei Wu is absent, have a race on their dragons to see who will be ‘Dragon Master of the Month’. The four ninjas race their dragons against each other between the mountains and through the woods. Cole wins through his use of one of his dragon’s treats, but the others do not acknowledge his victory, insisting that they rerun the race the next day, despite Cole's protests.
Garmadon's ultimate weapon, the Garmatron (Which in effect is a giant Cannon), is completed. The Overlord, the Stone Army, and Garmadon drive the vehicle to the coast of the Dark Island, but not before testing it out on Nya. The Ninja pursue Garmadon to the coast, and discover that Nya has turned evil, gaining all of Garmadon's dark abilities in the process. Kai, Jay, Zane, and Cole stay behind to deal with Nya, while Lloyd, Misako, and Sensei Wu rush to stop the Garmatron. They fail, and Garmadon turns Jamonkai Village, and the town around Four Weapons evil. The shift in the balance of good and evil allows the Overlord to poccess Garmadon's body and begin to transform into his original form. Lloyd challenges him, but is injured in the resulting battle.
The ninja have a secret alliance of elemental fighters, Cole has found Zane, and Nya is a spy within Chen's Kabuki to figure out what nefarious plot Chen is up to. But Chen upends the alliance by promising the all-powerful Staff of Elements to the victor, and reveals that he too has a spy in the tournament.
Nya has proof of Chen's plan, but he convinces the contestants to hunt her down with promises to advance the winner, forcing the ninja into a race to get to her first. Lloyd discovers Chen's plan to steal everyone's power so that he can complete a spell and turn his worshipers into Anacondrrai and bring the return of the Serpentine War.
After stealing the remaining contestant's powers, Chen only needs Lloyd's power to complete the spell. Knowing his daughter has feelings for Kai, Chen tries to enlist the Fire Ninja by promising to share secrets about his parents. All the while, Lloyd tries to rescue the ninja, pitting him in a showdown with Chen.
Chen has failed to bring the return of the Serpentine War but Clouse revels that there is another way - his daughter has the ability to absorb the power of every fighter she comes across, so she can complete the ceremony. Skylor finally sees her father for who he truly is and manages to send an SOS to the ninja.
The ninja and fighters discover there's a strategic location called the Corridor of Elders where they can make their last stand against Chen's Anacondrai army... but even with new Destiny Bounty, their forces still aren't strong enough. Fortunately, Pythor escapes Chen's clutches and discovers there is one spell in the Book of Magic that could stop the war, but at a a serious cost.
When Morro gives chase to the Bounty and steals Wu's staff, Wu shares the story of Morro: the boy who wanted to be the Green Ninja - and the Ninja discover Wu's staff contained 3 symbols that lead to the Tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master which holds a mysterious relic that could alter the course of Ninjago.
The Ninja travel to the Village of Stiix to find the thief who stole the scroll of Airjitzu, but the self-serving Ronin isn't keen to sell it cheaply so the Ninja must figure out a way to make money on the docks - and when they fail to make enough cash, the Ninja decide to steal it - but have a run in with Morro and Soul Archer.
The Ninja hear of another way to learn Airjitzu - from the ghost of Sensei Yang at his haunted temple - but there's a warning; if you are trapped in it by sunrise, you will become a ghost, too. Meanwhile, doubting she's a Water Ninja, Nya quits her training to take Ronan to her Samurai X cave...but has a run in with Moro.
Now that the Ninja know Airjitzu, they get briefed about how the next stage to finding the tomb is to get 'The Sword of Sanctuary' from Cloud Kingdom, which can only be reached from the top of the Wailing Alps. The Ninja go on the treacherous mission up the tallest peak in blizzard conditions using their mechs, but Cole struggles with his ghostly form.
In Cloud Kingdom, a realm where destinies are written, the Ninja must get the Sword of Sanctuary, a powerful relic that can see past the traps surrounding the tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master - but tensions are high as Moro's escape from the Cursed Realm has put the future in chaos, and they won't give the Sword to the Ninja unless the Master Writer meets them personally.
As the ghosts converge around and mobilize the Preeminent into a hulking giant behemoth, the Ninja use Airjitzu to fight the mobile beast in an attempt to slow it down — while, at the same time, Lloyd faces off with Moro, battling over the Realm Crystal; a fight that takes them in and out of different realms.
When Cole returns to Yang's haunted temple to seek revenge on the former Airjitzu Master who turned him into a ghost, he accidentally uses a powerful Dark Magic blade that unleashes the spectral forms of Ninjago's greatest villains and traps himself in the temple! Nya helps Zane backup memories of their adventures to the Samurai X Cave computer, but Zane encounters a mysterious puzzle buried deep within his code.
The Ninja are taken to the Dragon Hunter’s village. Planning to escape, they resolve to build a simulated Firstbourne with Cole and Wu. The resistance, led by a newly motivated Lloyd devise tactics for overthrowing Garmadon. Dareth, feeling excluded due to his lack of elemental power, convinces Mistaké to help him help obtain ‘brown power’.
The ninja and the villagers prepare to fight the Blizzard Samurai. While fighting Lloyd and Cole realize that some of them are made of Ice and some were corrupted people. Grimfax extinguishes the Hearth Fire. However, after they defeat the Blizzard Samurai, Kai tries to make fire, using his elemental powers by believing in himself and succeeds in restoring the Hearth Fire, gaining the title "Fire maker".
When Ultra Violet learn that the Ninja have gone missing, she and The Mechanic plan to escape the prison. In their escape route, they begin to discuss about who they thought was the worst ninja. They are soon interupted by Fugi-Dove. They continue talking along the route, telling stories (in anime style) about their hated ninja.
The Mechanic and his henchmen infiltrate an old electronics warehouse in search of a mysterious motherboard. The ninja learn of the heist and arrive to thwart the attack. But they're completely in the dark as to what the Mechanic wants with it, so they head to the Mechanic's headquarters looking for clues. More and more people are disappearing in Ninjago City, while the ninja scramble to unlock the secrets of the Prime Empire arcade game. They decide to take the game to Cyrus Borg, hoping he can help them decode the programming and release all the players who have been taken (including Jay). Meanwhile, the Mechanic and his henchmen are resting in Kryptarium Prison when the jail's security systems begin acting up.
Okino is a serious, duty-bound Samurai warrior who is unaware that Prime Empire is a game, since he is part of it. His job is to lead players through the three dangers of Terra Karana - the Forest of Discontent, the Cliffs of Hysteria and the Maze of the Red Dragon where the first Key-tana is located.
The ninja arrive at the Cliffs of Hysteria where they meet Shifty, a merchant who runs a table at the base of the cliffs. Shifty sells the ninja some grappling hooks and rope. Unfortunately, the ninja don't have enough money to buy the "Rope of Supreme Durability" and opt instead for the "Rope of Questionable Integrity".
As the ninja and Okino approach the Maze of the Red Dragon, Unagami uses his control over Prime Empire to briefly "pause" all the players except Okino. He appears before Okino, urging Okino to betray the ninja and not help them against the fearsome Red Dragon that awaits the ninja at the heart of the maze. If Okino betrays them, Unagami promises to bring him with into the real world.
A year after Nya saved NINJAGO City and became one with the sea, each Ninja is dealing with the change in his own way. When Gayle Gossip reports that super villain Miss Demeanor is buying large amounts of Vengestone, Cole realizes that this is the perfect time to bring the team together and stop the villain's evil plan. Will Cole be able to convince the other Ninjas in time to save NINJAGO City from Miss Demeanor?

Aspheera is having second thoughts and the New Ninja infiltrate the Ninja Cave! Can the Ninja stop the New Ninja while Aspheera tries to revive Nya before it's too late?

While they are in prison, a mysterious masked messenger visits Llyod and reveals that the Crystal King is gathering all the enemies of the Ninja and plans to destroy NINJAGO City! Can the Ninja save NINJAGO City from the Crystal King's evil plan?
At the Monastery, Nya finds the blueprints of the Samurai X Mech after Master Wu assures her that she is so much more than her lost powers. Back at the prison, Pythor, a former serpent adversary, warns the Ninja that the Crystal King is freeing villains from prison. Later that night, a couple of Crystal Spiders sneak into the prison to free Pythor! Will the Ninja be able to stop the Crystal Spiders from freeing Pythor? Can Nya still help the Ninja without her powers?
While riding in a prison bus, the Ninja run into some familiar faces as Nya uses the new Samurai X Mech and Dareth acts as a decoy to help the Ninja escape. Angered that the Ninja have escaped from prison, Mayor Trustable turns to the famous Marshal Hounddog McBrag to find the Ninja! Will the Ninja be able to escape? Or will Hounddog McBrag throw them back into Kryptarium Prison?
While walking through the desert, Zane, Kai, and Dareth get a ride from Sally, a wannabe singer who is on her way to NINJAGO City. After confessing to the Ninja that she ran away from home and borrowed her family's car without permission, they are discovered by Hounddog McBrag and the police! Can the Ninja and Sally escape the relentless Hounddog McBrag?
As soon as Cole, Lloyd, Jay and Fugi-Dove rejoin the others at Twitchy's gas station, the Ninja think about the next villain who will receive an invitation from the Crystal King. After realizing that the villain, the Mechanic, could be next, Hounddog McBrag shows up at the gas station! Will the Ninja manage to escape Hounddog McBrag again and find the Mechanic?
While the Ninja continue to track Lloyd as he heads to the Council of the Crystal King, the Mechanic breaks free and makes his way to the Council of the Crystal King as well. During the Mechanic's fight with the Ninja, a Crystal Spider video recorded the real Mechanic and informed the Crystal King! Is Lloyd headed into a trap? Who is the Crystal King?
Hounddog McBrag arrives at the Monastery and impounds the Destiny's Bounty. The Ninja track Lloyd through the subway tunnels but walk into Harumi's trap. Crystal Spiders explode and collapse the tunnel, but the Ninja shelter in an old subway car. Harumi uses the Ninja's apparent death to manipulate Lloyd to her side, and a dark energy boils inside him.
The Ninja take stock of the situation in the subway car. The Council of the Crystal King attacks the Ninja Cave. Wu, Pixal, Skylor and Nya hold them off with the help of Pixal's MiniPix. Harumi's Crystal Spiders bomb the cave. The villains escape with the Weapons of Spinjitzu. The surviving MiniPix rescues everyone but Nya, who escapes in her Samurai X Mech. She blasts off to save the Ninja.
Nya in her mech frees the Ninja from the collapsed subway tunnel and flies them to their new base at the old Samurai X Cave. Back at the Crystal Temple, Harumi guides the Council of the Crystal King through a ritual to transform the Weapons of Spinjitzu into the Weapons of Destruction. The Crystal King also takes physical form.
The Crystal King gives his council new powers and floats the temple into the sky. He gives Lloyd one last chance to join his side. Lloyd refuses and attempts to escape. He evades the Council of the Crystal King and pulls Harumi out of the temple with him. They fall to the jungle below, and Lloyd's tracking signal alerts the Ninja to his location.
The Ninja steal back Destiny's Bounty and their vehicles from the police impound lot with a surprise assist from Master Wu. They head for Primeval's Eye where Lloyd navigates the dense jungle and evades the Council of the Crystal King with Harumi as his prisoner. Lloyd releases Harumi and joins the Ninja. They temporarily retreat at the sight of the Crystal King's power.
The Ninja clash with the Crystal King's army as his temple floats towards Ninjago City. The vengestone warriors negate the Ninja's elemental powers, and the crystals drain their vehicles. Master Wu and Lloyd track down cryptic warnings of this event. With the help of the paperkids, they follow the clues back to Garmadon, living in Ninjago City with NGTV News cameraman, Vinny.
Garmadon shares his journey of personal growth with Master Wu and Lloyd. Vinny has taught Garmadon compassion through caring for a plant named Christofern. Garmadon breaks his vow of non-violence when Crystal Warriors attack the apartment. Garmadon defeats the enemies by taking on a powerful Oni Form that Master Wu believes could be the key to defeating the Crystal King.
The Ninja retreat to the Samurai X Cave to strategize where Garmadon is teaching Lloyd to master his Oni Form. Lloyd struggles because he does not want to embrace his darker side. Master Wu believes there must be an equal and opposite Dragon Form and reaches out to Misako to research. Pixal upgrades the Ninja's vehciles after studying a sample of crystal, and they return to battle.
The Ninja race through Ninjago City in their new golden vehicles and take out Crystal Warriors with the power boost that Pixal installed. Hope is short lived, and the Destiny's Bounty is attacked by Dragonides. The crystal beasts take the Ninja's new vehicles out of commition. Master Wu confronts the Crystal King, but both he and the Bounty are blasted out of the sky.
Master Wu parachutes from the Crystal Temple and is found by paperkids Nelson and Antonia. Jay rescues Nya from the wreckage of the Destiny's Bounty, and Nya saves Jay from Crystal Warriors by reawakening her elemental powers. They head to the harbor with a plan to call for reinforcements. Nelson and Antonia bring Master Wu back to the newspaper warehouse where he broadcasts a message of hope.
Lloyd and Garmadon escape from Hounddog McBrag into the sewers where Lloyd saves the McBrag from crystal-infected Serpentine. Misako returns to the warehouse with scrolls confirming Dragon Form exists, but the text is incomplete. Pixal rescues Zane but his memory is damaged along with his body, and his Ice Emperor persona resurfaces. Ronin and escaped fugitives escort Pixal to Borg Tower.
Skylor rescues Kai and Cole from Pythor using elemental powers borrowed from both Ninja. They take shelter in an arcade and find Jake, separated from his parents. They head for the warehouse through the sewers to avoid the crystal-infected zombies and reunite Jake with his parents. Elsewhere in the sewers, Lloyd and Garmadon discover their potential Serpentine allies have already evacuated.
Kai and Skylor bond over cooking for refugees. Master Wu and Misako struggle to decypher the Dragon Form scroll. Cole uses the paperkid dispatch to contact the rest of the Ninja and coordinate outreach to their allies. Cyrus Borg repairs Zane, and Pixal brings him back online with an emotional outreach. She summons her new mech from the Samurai X Cave. Borg outfits Ronin's fugitives with mechs.
Nya digitizes Jay and uploads him into Zane’s mind. Jay reviews memories of the Ninja’s various motorcycles, mechs and planes in order to solve the vehicle-themed puzzle.
Cole joins Jay and Zane inside the Nindroid to solve a mysterious puzzle by revisiting some of Ninjago’s distinctive destinations.
Kai enters Zane’s mind and suggests the Ninja take a break from puzzle-solving to figure out which villain is trying to hack their friend.
The team tackles a puzzle about technology in Ninjago while the threat to Zane grows graver by the minute.
A riddle requires the Ninja to consider the powers and history of the Elemental Masters. Meanwhile, Nya struggles to keep the power on in the Samurai X Cave.
Jay, Kai and Zane remember some of Ninjago’s most fearsome creatures in order to help Cole defend the cave from an unidentified monster.
The Ninja confront memories of their greatest villain and ally, Garmadon, before the threat to Zane controls him completely.
The final puzzle forces each ninja to question the true meaning of the Green Ninja Prophecy, but success is not what it seems.
Solving the puzzles releases a new peril for the Ninja to face. Will memories of their greatest victories be enough to defeat it?
Master Wu gives the Ninja a review in Spinjitzu, teaching them balance conquering fear, focus, and teamwork. In the process of learning the lesson in teamwork, the Ninja spill the painter's bowl of golden paint, which in turn covers Master Wu and Kai. Wu then concludes the lessons.
Lloyd is dreaming in the Monastery about the fate of the Ultra Dragon. One day, while on Lloyd and "Ultra" are on patrol, they spy some members of the Venomari Tribe attacking a village. Lloyd jumps off of Ultra's back and summons his Golden Dragon, the two splitting up to more effectively defeat the Serpentine. Lloyd and Ultra foil the attack and fly back into the air. Ultra Dragon disappears in the clouds, and Lloyd follows it to the Spirit Coves. There, Lloyd notices that Ultra is homesick. He gives Ultra permission to return to the Realm of Oni and Dragons. Ultra then flies out of the Cove and opens a portal to its home realm. The mini-movie ends with the Ultra Dragon flying with the other dragons, Firstbourne included.
Cole, driving his newly rebuilt Earth Driller, gets called to fight the Giant Stone Warrior in Kryptarium Prison. Before Cole arrives, some police officers are facing the Giant Stone Warrior on their own. The Stone Warrior easily defeats them and moves to attack the Warden, before the Earth Driller bursts through the ground. Cole fights the Stone Warrior, accidentally letting Killow and Ultra Violet out of their cells. Fandom may earn an affiliate commission on sales made from links on this page. Killow and the Stone Warrior try to destroy the Driller, before Cole, inspired by the song "The Weekend Whip," spins incredibly fast. Killow is thrown back into his cell and crashes into Ultra Violet, but the Stone Warrior still attacks. Using his swords, he catches the Driller just as it bursts out of the ground. Cole is once again inspired by the song and turns out the driller, throwing the Giant Stone Warrior back into it's cell. Cole jumps out of the cockpit triumphantly, before being booed and jeered by the rest of the prisoners and being confused by Noble glaring at him.
Zane and Kai recall a time when they fought off some Venomari using their Golden Weapons in vehicle form.
Jay stares at the new mural on the wall of the Monastery of Spinjitzu and remembers using his jet. He recalls preventing Pythor from stealing some noodle trucks, and by the time he awakens from his daydream, it's nighttime.
Nya and Jay make a bet where the loser of a fight does the dishes. After she won, Jay points to her Samurai Mech painted on the monastery's wall. After Nya talks about how she would upgrade her Mech, the duo went inside for supper, with Nya reminding Jay about their bet.
