Season 1

Eustace Conway lives deep in the mountains of North Carolina. He moved here 33 years ago in search of a more "truthful" existence. In the years since, he's built a home, and survived by hunting, fishing and raising animals. Tom Oar lives with his wife on the Yaak River in Montana. He is 100 miles from the nearest town, a place he hasn't ventured to in 10 years. Marty Meierotto, his wife Dominique and their daughter Noah live in the small Alaskan town of Two Rivers. Every month, Marty pilots his bi-plane, traveling into the bush in search of the wolverine and lynx pelts he needs to make a living. While he's on the Black River, he must hunt moose and caribou to survive in the wilderness. Together, these men represent America's true MOUNTAIN MEN.

But things quickly start going south. In Idaho, George Michaud has a run in with a thieving predator and in North Carolina, Eustace, Preston and Scout continue to work on the damaged tool shed roof, giving Eustace a chance to test Scout's evolving skills.

In the Yaak Valley, Tom is called by his friend, Tim to help with a beaver problem and takes the opportunity to teach an important lesson; and in Maine, Charlie and Jim head to the frozen river to carve out 100 pound ice chunks for Charlie's root cellar.

Eustace takes an opportunity to pay down his loan by building a primitive canoe, but the work is well outside his comfort zone. Charlie continues to struggle with his injury, while racing the change in seasons to secure some final furs, and after a highly successful season, Marty bear proofs his cabin and prepares to head home to Two Rivers.

Kyle and his son Ben scramble to save a herd of bison from a fast approaching winter storm.

Martha and Elli Tansy travel to the coast to harvest clams and explore a different side of Elli's Native Alaskan roots. In North Carolina, Eustace Conway harvests the strongest wood to build new forges and upgrade Turtle Island's blacksmith shop. In Montana, Jake Herak fights heavy winds to single handedly build a workshop for his homestead.
