When Pops accidentally starts a fire in his apartment during a Halloween party, he’s evicted and Beverly invites him to move into the Goldbergs’ home. Pops’ wild lifestyle is soon too much for the family to handle and they decide to look into other options. Meanwhile, Barry stops Erica from eating Pop Rocks candy with soda, since according to urban legend, the combination would kill her. Since he “saves” her, Barry wants something in return from Erica.
When Mr. Meller singles out Adam during a game of Dodgeball, Beverly intervenes to protect Adam and gets Meller fired. But soon, Murray and Adam see him in a new light, so Beverly tries to get his job back…will she succeed? Meanwhile, Barry can't accept Erica is better than him in a new board game… Trivial Pursuit.
As a bet, Beverly challenges Erica to participate in Jazzercise after she thinks her mom's obsession is lame. Meanwhile, uncle Marvin shows up for his annual visit to the Goldberg home and unexpectedly bonds with Adam, which annoys Murray.
Adam breaks his arm and exaggerates at school that he fell off of a hover board just like in the “Back to the Future” movie. But the lie threatens his friendship with Emmy Mirsky. Meanwhile, the family falls in love with the new Chinese restaurant in town and Beverly fears she’s being replaced in the kitchen.
When Adam passes on a family ring to convey his feelings for Dana, Beverly can’t seem to accept her little boy having such deep feelings at his age. Meanwhile, new couple Lainey and Barry convinces Murray to watch football with Lainey’s dad. They soon realize the fathers root for opposing teams and Barry is left to decide between his love for the Eagles and his love for Lainey.
When Murray takes Erica's car privileges away, Erica and Barry retaliate by buying their own shabby used black van. Murray gets even more upset so they move into the van full time and park it on the street by the house. Beverly hopes she can get the children back inside. Meanwhile at school, Adam gets voted in the yearbook as "nicest guy," but thinks he deserves something better… which results in a suspension
Lainey, Erica and Barry plan a big “Risky Business” inspired party at her home, just like the movie, while Lainey’s dad is out of town. Later, when the party gets out of control, Beverly jumps to the rescue and Lainey is happy to have a mother figure like Beverly in her life, but for how long? Meanwhile, Adam’s relationship with Dana by talking to her for hours on the phone angers Murray. As a result, Adam tries a bunch of new ways to contact her since she’s moved away.
As Adam enters puberty, Beverly does everything in her power to help him through this awkward phase, including his crackling singing voice. So when Adam gets a lead role in the school musical, Beverly convinces Ms. Cinoman to have Adam lip sync – just like the musical group Milli Vanilli – while performing in “A Chorus Line.” Meanwhile, Murray inspires Erica to go to the Homecoming Dance with JTP member Geoff Schwartz.
Upset by Barry's insecurity in their relationship, Lainey sets out to teach him a lesson with Erica's help. However, the situation turns into something totally different and Barry goes to school dressed like Boy George hoping it will change. Murray and Pop-Pop wage in a war of words after the Goldbergs get their first-ever answering machine. Fed up with their fighting, Erica, Barry and Pops hope to broker a peace using a trip to a hockey game as leverage. Meanwhile, Beverly worries about Adam's social standing after he begins spending his lunch period with some lovable geeks in the computer room.
After finding out there is only going to be one Hanukkah song in the Holiday Pageant, Beverly convinces Erica to create the perfect song to bring some excitement to the holiday. Erica sees her shot to break into the music business while Barry does his best to prove he too can be a hit maker with music. Meanwhile, Adam’s childlike wonder with movies and entertainment is called into question when things he loved as a child aren’t as good as he remembers.
Adam feels like he's losing his best friend, Chad, so he attempts to join the tennis team. Meanwhile, Erica tells Geoff she is in debt and gets swept up in the family investment. Later, Beverly invites 50 people over for a Thanksgiving potluck instead of stressing out cooking for the family, but the plan backfires and Beverly realizes some traditions shouldn't change.
This Goldbergs-inspired special event picks up where the Goldberg family leaves off at William Penn Academy in the 1990s as former teacher and now Head of School John Glascott leads a faculty of teachers with wildly different views on how to mentor students and recruits his tough-as-nails-sister Lucy to join his staff and enroll her teenage daughters Felicia and Gigi as new students. Lucy is desperate to ensure they avoid the social pitfalls of high school and finds herself torn between Glascott's nurturing and communicative approach to parenting and Coach Mellor's tough-guy belief that physical competition brings out the best in students. Even Beverly Goldberg comes to visit the school's staff despite all her kids having already graduated and can't help but meddle one last time.
Barry joins the football team but is quickly benched by Coach Mellor due to his lack of playing ability. He convinces himself the coach is testing him; but when Barry realizes the truth of his playing ability, Adam helps his brother understand there are other ways he can contribute to the team and comes up with their own version of the Super Bowl Shuffle. Meanwhile, Beverly designs jackets that she tries to get Murray and Erica to sell when a national TV channel won't.
When Beverly gets a glimpse into a soon-to-be empty nest, she replaces her kids with the Mellor brothers, nursing Coach Mellor back to health after falling off the rope climb. Meanwhile, Erica and her college roommate get on each other’s nerves in their dorm room, especially when Valley Erica puts a scrunchie on the door and kicks Erica out.
After seeing "Flashdance," Beverly decides to take up dance with the Frentas and is rejected when the family doesn't support her after telling them she is going to be in a recital. Meanwhile, when Emmy starts dating a cool guy, Adam thinks their friendship is in jeopardy, so he sets out to be cooler which backfires.
Adam tries to start a Mel Brooks club after he sees the movie "Spaceballs," and Jackie mistakes his club advertisement for political satire and puts it in the school paper. Meanwhile, when Beverly and Pops come up for parents weekend at school, Erica plans on telling them an important decision she has made, but Murray surprises them and tags along.
When Lainey moves back to town, Barry asks her to the prom; but when she says no, he plans a senior prank with Principal Ball's car to get out of going. Meanwhile, Erica tells Murray she has made a final decision about her future in college, and he is furious and insists she pay her own way for rent and food.
It’s Adam’s 16th birthday, but his parents are too distracted by Barry and Lainey’s engagement and Erica’s band ambitions to remember their youngest son’s big day. Meanwhile, Beverly is horrified to learn that Erica and Adam don’t want any of the priceless heirlooms in her fancy, never-really-used living room.
Murray and Geoff team up to pull Beverly, Barry and Erica out of their shared misery that Lainey has left town. Adam's dread of gym class is amplified when Coach Mellor's brother, Coach Nick, arrives and uses fear as a motivator. Meanwhile, Coach Mellor (guest star Bryan Callen) prepares for the next step of his life.
Beverly decides their street needs another stop sign and pleads her case to the city comptroller. Barry panics when he realizes he's neglected his college applications, but the situation only gets worse once Murray is involved. Meanwhile, Erica struggles with her career choice.
The Dropouts are thrilled when they book a gig at a Flyers charity carnival, and Adam uses the opportunity to make his very first rockumentary. Since Barry doesn't want to miss out on the fun, he forces his way into the band, despite his sister's objections. Meanwhile, Beverly's concerns about Murray's health push him to the limit.
Adam lets it slip that Barry never completed his community service requirement, so the brothers join together to throw the greatest breakdancing battle in the history of William Penn. Geoff's stress levels are at an all-time high, so Erica makes an adult decision and plans for them to follow the Grateful Dead all summer. Finally, it's the end of an era when the JTP (The Jenkintown Posse) graduates from high school.

Beverly scores a bargain on four paintings. Once they make it home, she and Adam determine something supernatural is causing them to be destroyed. Much to Murray's dismay, they call a psychic for help. Meanwhile, Barry decides to throw a huge "Rocky Horror Picture Show"-themed party against Erica's wishes. Their confrontation leads to a visit to the dean's office.
Murray decides to buy WrestleMania tickets to spend time with Barry and Adam, but he buys fake tickets so they can't get in. Meanwhile, Beverly forms her own neighborhood watch group when the Frentas choose neighbor Jane Bales to be the Watch Captain over her.

After realizing how little time Adam has left at William Penn, a sentimental Beverly decides to get more involved at the school, to Adam and Principal Ball’s dismay. In order to prevent her from intervening with Senior Skip Day, Adam and Principal Ball team up to put Beverly through an intense Quaker Warden training, which ends up backfiring.
As William Penn’s new Quaker Warden, Beverly is thrilled to have co-workers for the first time and sets out to make them all love her. To her dismay, it’s more difficult to win them over than she anticipated, as her reputation of being a difficult school parent precedes her. Meanwhile, Geoff competes in the “Mr. Ships Ahoy” beauty pageant to prove to Erica that he can be seen as desirable by other women.
As Adam’s girlfriend Brea heads to visit her cousin at the University of Virginia (UVA), Beverly projects her own insecurity onto Adam, convincing him to do a grand gesture to prevent Brea from choosing UVA for college. Meanwhile, when Geoff asks Erica to go to the local Nancy Glass talk show with him, a disappointed Barry teams up with Geoff’s sister Joanne to change his mind.
When the NFL players go on strike and the football season is threatened, Barry gets concerned that he and Murray will no longer have anything to talk about which leads Barry to try out for the Eagles team himself. Against Erica’s advice, Beverly decides to start selling a nutritional product from a sketchy company in an attempt to gain financial independence.
When Barry and Joanne crash Erica and Geoff’s peaceful weekend camping trip, they end up in a competition to see who is the better couple, causing some unexpected shifts in relationships. After realizing there may be trouble in lovers’ paradise for Erica and Geoff, Beverly involves herself in their relationship as well as Barry and Joanne’s to make sure everyone stays together. Meanwhile, Adam and Brea are cast opposite of each other in the school play, but their excitement for one another’s success grows dim when one starts to outshine the other onstage.
Trying to move on from their breakup, Erica goes on a date with a guy from the coffee shop while Geoff ends up on an episode of “The Dating Game,” which winds up making things even more difficult for them both. Meanwhile, Beverly is thrilled to learn that Murray has spontaneously purchased a shore house—until she realizes it’s not quite the luxury home she imagined.
In order to take her mind off of her heartbreak, Erica takes a trip to Los Angeles to see her best friend, Lainey Lewis, and they end up getting the band back together for a gig. Meanwhile, after getting caught taking part in an underground poker game, Adam gets sentenced to Pop-Pop duty, which turns out better than expected.
Geoff shares with the JTP that he is planning on asking Erica to marry him and gives them the engagement ring for safekeeping. Like any good romantic comedy, several miscommunications and misunderstandings between Geoff and Erica’s friends and family result in a potential derailing of the proposal, forcing Adam to step in to keep the couple’s special moment alive.
Mr. Glascott moves in next door and slowly goes from friendly neighbor to cluelessly intrusive, until Beverly comes up with a plan to occupy his time with a new friend. Barry lands in urgent care with a case of poison ivy in a compromising area - his rear end, testing Erica and Geoff's parenting skills.
Missing his Pops, Adam finds himself disenchanted with his once favorite time of year, Halloween, until Beverly encourages Pop Pop to spend time with his grandson. Barry decides to bring his former alter ego, rapper "Big Tasty," back to life; and a chance encounter with the legendary Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, brings Barry and Joanne closer together.
Senior Night is upon William Penn Academy, and Beverly soon discovers she is missing out on the ceremonial adoration presented to mothers with athletic children. Much to Adam’s embarrassment, Beverly pushes for her moment to shine with a kiss and a rose and encourages Principal Ball to establish a Non-Athlete Senior Night. As Adam attempts to foil his mother’s plans, Erica finds herself lacking any interested friends to appoint “pre-wedding fun captain.” Reluctantly, she engages her eager “sister-in-law to be” Joanne, who inadvertently doesn’t meet expectations but ultimately proves herself worthy of being called sister.
After weeks of waiting, Adam finally receives news that he has been accepted into NYU. His excitement is soon diminished when he learns Brea has been accepted into her dream school, Brown University. Fearing the distance will affect their relationship, Adam attempts to find ways to keep his girlfriend close. Meanwhile, with Virginia’s help, Beverly begins looking for venues to hold Erica’s wedding shower. She discovers her nemesis’ tennis club and is determined to become a member even if it means embarrassing herself.
Beverly creates a plan to save Formica Mike’s failing marriage, but her efforts quickly backfire. Meanwhile, Barry enlists Adam and friends to create a James Bond-themed home movie in his ongoing efforts to court Joanne, but her response leaves him with a bruised ego. Both Barry and Beverly learn valuable lessons in love.
Erica and Geoff decide to throw a party to prove to others and themselves that they can still have fun as a young, engaged couple. Meanwhile, Beverly assumes control of William Penn Academy as “acting principal” and presses the school faculty to put together a “Fame”-themed send-off for the senior class.
When Erica and Geoff plan a joint bachelor/bachelorette party at the beach, Barry finds himself face-to-face with his ex-girlfriends and their current boyfriends — causing him to spiral in his attempt to stand out during the festivities. Meanwhile, Adam decides to intervene when Lou takes over planning the wedding video, ultimately bringing the families together.
When Murray goes out of town, Jane Bales attempts to make a power grab at the Ottoman Empire, forcing Beverly to retaliate. Meanwhile, Adam is thrilled to learn that Dave Kim also plans to attend NYU, but his excitement is short-lived when the two agree to be college roommates and Adam realizes it may compromise his popularity.
When Beverly steps in for PE coach at William Penn Academy, Adam reluctantly takes her Jazzercise class. He is surprised to find enjoyment in it, until Beverly suffers an embarrassing incident, causing Adam the ultimate humiliation. Brea steps in to show Adam his mother’s good intentions and he ultimately comes to her defense. Meanwhile, Barry and Geoff find themselves both up for the same medical internship, which creates conflict in their budding friendship.
Beverly decides to join Adam and Brea on their much-anticipated beachside vacation in Miami to take of care of Pops’ possessions at his Florida condominium. Meanwhile, Barry’s celebratory joy after acing the MCAT is short-lived when Erica saves a man from choking at the mall food court and becomes a local hero.
With Adam’s graduation approaching, Beverly debates staying on as William Penn Academy’s Quaker Warden. Forever butting heads with Principal Ball, her choice also affects his decision to stay or not. Meanwhile, Erica tries to get out of the Schwartzes’ longstanding tradition of dinner together every Sunday and the subsequent household chores. She soon realizes the importance of finding balance between the demands of family and marriage.
Graduation day is approaching and everyone, especially Adam, is ready — except for Beverly who is not coping well with the idea of an empty nest. Meanwhile, with Geoff’s encouragement, Erica decides to try out for Cyndi Lauper as a one-time backup singer replacement. Ultimately, resurrecting her singing dreams doesn’t manifest, but bigger and exciting new beginnings await her and the Goldbergs.
Adam forgoes his weekly Mama-Schmoo dinner date to hang out with his new colleagues, including a new special lady. Beverly, worried sick that Adam is running in too fast a crowd, pulls out the ultimate stop to end it all. Meanwhile, Barry faces the harsh reality that medical school is tougher than anticipated.
