Ash steht kurz vor seinem ersten Kampf. Er möchte wissen, gegen wen er im Indigo Stadion antreten muss und staunt nicht schlecht, als Rocko ihm erklärt, dass er erst vier Kämpfe auf unterschiedlichen Spielfeldern gewinnen muss, bevor er im Indigo Stadion kämpfen darf. Sein erster Gegner ist der "erstaunliche Mandi", ein sehr eingebildeter Trainer. Mandi hat sich Jessie zum Feind gemacht, da er sie sehr herablassend behandelt hat. Kurz vor dem Kampf ruft Professor Eich an und schickt Ash Krabby. Das passt Ash sehr gut, denn er hat erfahren, dass er auf dem Wasserfeld kämpfen muss, und außer Schiggy hat er keine Wasser-Pokémon. Mistys Wasser-Pokémon will Ash nicht einsetzen, obwohl sie ihm ihre Pokémon geben würde...
Ash goes in to sign up for the Pokémon League. In the Pokémon League competition, each participant must battle in all four arenas. After sign up is complete, he ends up battling in the water arena. Ash meets Gary before the battle, who is very confident as usual. Gary enters his battle and wins it. Ash meets his challenger in the water arena. His name is Mandy, and he is quite confident he will win as well. Before the battle, Ash gets Krabby from Oak through an exchange system. Then, he heads towards the arena for battle. Ash enters the arena. Just as the battle is about to begin, Team Rocket is in the announcer's stand cheering him on. They are soon carted away by a group of five Officer Jennies. Ash fights the battle hard. Using his Krabby, he manages to win the first battle which then evolves into a Kingler. Continually fighting the battles with Mandy's Pokémon, Ash wins them all much to the surprise of Mandy who was sure he would win. With the first Pokémon battle won, Ash faces the next arena.
Sacha entame son premier match contre Marc l'Epoustouflant, un des favoris de la ligue Pokémon. Ce dernier perd le match grâce au Krabby de Sacha qui évolue pendant le match en Krabboss et élimine coup sur coup les 3 Pokémon de Marc.

לפני הקרב אש מבקש מפרופסור אוק שיעביר לו את קרבי, ומסרב לעזרה ממיסטי ומברוק.
וכך בקרב הראשון שלו הקרבי של אש מנצח את האזקיוטור של היריב, ומתפתח לקינגלר.
בקרב השני קינגלר מנצח את סידרה, ובקרב השלישי קינגלר מנצח את גולדבאט.
