After all, it included many overhauls to the Windows experience, and its entire structuring surrounded a concept that would also become a part of Microsoft’s marketing slogan: “bringing clarity to your world.” However, Mircosoft's marketing and how they approached Vista's development would show that this just wasn't enough.

  • S2021E06 Why People Love Windows XP

    • August 17, 2021

This video covers the cultural phenomenon for why people seem to love Windows XP so much. The OS was released in 2001, and it was the product which followed the releases of Windows ME and 2000, but the main direction XP intended to take was simplicity, and this makes a lot of sense. Microsoft struck gold with Windows 95 six years prior, and were now very much on the mindset of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Windows didn’t need some game-changing layout overhauls. It just needed to be more secure, fresher, and easier to use. Although it was primarily meant to be a more nuts-and-bolts update of Windows, it introduced a new UI and a ton of new under-the-hood changes. Because of this, Windows XP had a warm welcoming energy, actually a little too welcoming for some people. A lot people initially criticized XP for its, at the time, unconventional “toy-like” appearance, calling it a “Fisher Price” OS.

    • November 30, 2021

If you have been gaming for at least 10 years, there is no doubt that there is one game that comes to mind that is either one of your all-time favorites or one you’ve played at least once: Halo. It all started in 2001 with Halo: Combat Evolved, which was released as the launch title for the brand-new first-generation Xbox. It was one of the Xbox’s most iconic video games, and the Halo series has since become a symbol for early-2000s nostalgia and one of the highest-grossing media franchises in history. Really quite an impressive feat, but what if I told you that this almost never happened, and that Halo, initially, almost became a game for the Mac? Today we are going to be talking about easily one of the greatest plot twists of Silicon Valley: This is How Microsoft stole Halo from Apple.

This typo was “Goggle.” The word had gone relatively under the radar for a couple of years, going unnoticed by most users just passing by, but as the world wide web continued to grow exponentially and more people started familiarizing themselves with a more respected website “Google”, more people started to notice it and saw just how devastating it really was.

  • S2021E13 The Computer Bug That Almost Ended The World | The Y2k Debacle NationSquid 302K subscribers

    • December 31, 2021

The year 2000 was going to be very special, for a multitude of reasons. We were entering into a new millennium, a new era, a year that only existed in Science-Fiction stories. This was by no means a conventional New Year. It was finally the future, but maybe not the future everyone was anticipating. Millions of people around the world spent their last moments in the 1900s staring at the clock, but not for the reason that you think. Instead of celebrating, they were terrified, because as soon as the clock struck midnight, the world was going to end, and within the blink of an eye, the year 2000 would instead be a future now past.

Season 2022

  • S2022E01 0:00 / 24:41 The Tragic Fall Of µTorrent

    • January 19, 2022

Just as the internet was finally planting its roots within computers all across the world in the early 2000s, people began to take advantage of it in ways which before weren’t possible. The World Wide Web was continuing to evolve, and so were the people using it. File sizes got bigger, but for many, internet speeds and bandwidth remained the same, which meant that downloading was going to become more difficult: What do we do? The answer to that question was found in a program which dominated computers of hardcore internet users throughout the duration of the decade: uTorrent. This software took advantage of a revolutionary technology that was introduced only a couple of years prior. The technology in question is in the name: “torrenting,” and uTorrent was about to become the program that would popularize its use for the masses. Websites could now provide downloads the size of video game files at virtually no cost on the host’s end. The internet was about to change forever.

  • S2022E02 Windows 8.1 - From Failure To Success

    • January 29, 2022

Given all the things that went wrong with Windows 8, it would have been safe to assume that Microsoft would have just discontinued working on it right away, but the story doesn’t end there. There is a lot to unpack with Windows 8, because unlike other versions of Windows, Windows 8 arguably has the most moving parts to it, so much so that I decided to divide it into two separate videos. Not only does it tell the tale of an extremely misguided corporation, but also one that was actually able to somewhat correct its course. In 2013, Microsoft came out with Windows 8.1, the OS that acted as a form of retribution for Microsoft. “We’re sorry for making Windows 8. Here is something better.” and it…actually worked.

  • S2022E03 The Rise And Fall Of ThePirateBay.org

    • February 26, 2022

Does anyone remember the Pirate Bay? It seems like a bit of a silly question. I mean, it only remained as one of the top file-sharing websites in the world for the duration of an entire decade, dominating the 2000s as the go-to BitTorrent search engine. But one Tuesday morning would change everything. People would wake up to find the most popular and controversial online index for entertainment seized by the Swedish government, completely wiped off the face of the earth, left with absolutely nothing but a bleak outlook on the website’s future. With the website’s founders now in jail, people didn’t know if the Pirate Bay was ever coming back or if it’s only remnants would be unreliable, dangerous site clones. Was this the end of mainstream online piracy? The answer to this question would be answered just a month later, when the website would just go back up, featuring a countdown, with operations immediately resuming as normal immediately after.

What initially seemed like your typical, somewhat interesting Mac rumor, ended up becoming a story that hit the news. You may be noticing something a bit off going on around YouTube right now, a problem that is only getting bigger every day and getting more sophisticated, more difficult to stop, the longer it remains unresolved.
