American Airlines Flight 1 It was reportedly the first sunny day that New York city had after weeks of cold weather and rainfall. The city received an influx of tourists who were visiting to see astronaut John Glenn partake in the Broadway ticker-tape parade. Instead of fog and mist, optimism was now in the air, and the people of Manhattan were anticipating nothing but great things to come. On March 1, 1962, while New York was preparing a parade for astronaut John Glenn, a terrifying boom quaked the city. Those who investigated would discover that this would be the result of the deadliest plane crash in U.S. history to date. Despite its tragic results, the crash of American Airlines Flight 1 would lead to updated safety measures as well indirectly and unrecognizably change huge aspects of modern world culture.
