町内の商家で子供の行方不明事件が頻発するが、そのどれもが数日のうちに戻ってくるという。だが依頼主の成田屋の子は既に1か月ものあいだ行方不明。京助は、朔太郎や胡堂を巻き込み体調不良の啄木に代わって調査を進めていくことに。そんななか突然、成田屋の子供が帰ってきた。果たしてこれで一件落着なのか？
一方、環の死によって解決したかに思われていた告発状事件が再び起きる。啄木は真犯人である告発者Xの解明に乗り出す。
A series of missing children incidents has occurred among the merchant families in town, but each of the children has returned in a matter of days. And yet, the client's child has been missing for a month. Kyousuke takes on the case in place of Takuboku, who's health is poor, and drags Sakutarou and Kodou into the investigation with him. While they're doing that, the client's child suddenly returns. Is this case closed? Meanwhile, the incidents involving letters of accusation thought to be finished with Tamaki's death start up again. Takuboku sets out to discover the true identity of Accuser X.
