Ash hat seinen Fünftrundenkampf gegen seinen Freund Richie verloren und ist sehr niedergeschlagen. Seine Freunde können ihn nicht aufmuntern. Auch Professor Eich und Ashs Mom gelingt es nicht. Alle finden, dass Ash stolz auf sich sein kann, aber sich wie ein kleines Kind benimmt. In der sechsten Runde trifft Ashs Freund Richie auf Assunta. Beide können bei diesem Kampf sechs Pokémon einsetzen. Der Kampf ist ausgeglichen, doch dann dürfen beide nur noch ein Pokémon einsetzen...
Ash is sad about his loss at the Pokémon League. He is not speaking to anyone, and when Misty comes in to try to cheer him up it quickly turns into an argument between the two. Pikachu brings a quick finish to the argument with a thundershock on everyone. Ash and the gang decide to head out to cheer on Richie for his sixth round. Richie fights the match hard, and unfortunately loses. After coming out of the match, Richie is determined to try harder for next year which inspires Ash to do just the same. As they talk, both of their Pikachu play behind them until they fall into a hole dug by Team Rocket. They rush to save their Pikachu, but fall into another hole. Ash struggles to get out, but upon sliding back down, the hole collapses into deeper inside the ground. Jessie and James fish out the two Pikachu from the other hole and trap them in a cage. They get out of the hole with the help of their Pokémon Pidgeotto and Happy, and defeat Team Rocket. Back at the Pokémon League, they receive their badges for participating and are treated to a great display of fireworks. Team Rocket try to dig below the arena to get in, but end up being blown away along with the fireworks. Ash says goodbye to Richie and proceeds back home to Pallet Town.
Après la victoire de Richie face à Sacha en huitième de finale, c'est au tour d'Assunta de l'affronter pour les quarts. On ne voit pas le début du match, mais on peut voir les Pokémon des dresseurs défiler. Finalement, la manche finale oppose Sparky à Herbizarre. Le Pikachu de Richie est pris de vitesse. L'Herbizarre d'Assunta parvient même à éviter l'attaque Éclair et utilise l'attaque Lance-Soleil sur Sparky. Attaque fatale : le Pikachu de Richie est K.O. et Richie est éliminé à son tour.
Contrairement à Sacha, il ne s'apitoie pas sur son sort et dit qu'on apprend beaucoup de ses défaites. Le soir-même, la finale qu'on n'a pas vue a eu lieu, et les trois meilleurs dresseurs sont sur le podium. Même Assunta n'a pas gagné cette ligue Indigo.

Ash se siente desilusionado por su derrota pero luego se da cuenta que lo que importa ahora es apoyar a Richie.
La Lega Pokémon è quasi giunta al termine e Ash, Misty e Brock sono tra il pubblico a fare il tifo per Richie per poi marciare con lui nella cerimonia finale. È un'esperienza che Ash non dimenticherà mai!
Ash, Misty og Brock hepper på Richie i Pokémon Ligaens sidste kampe, hvorefter de sammen marcherer ud til afslutningsceremonien. Det har været en oplevelse, som Ash vil have med på hele sin rejse som Træner!
