銀次は国定忠治の晒し首を葬りたいので、晒し場から盗んでくれと金を積まれるが断る。だが、忠治の首を自ら盗もうとする娘に心を打たれた銀次は、首を盗み彼女のところへ走る。しかしそこで銀次が見たものは、先ほど金を積んだ男たちだった。娘と男達は知り合いだったのだ。銀次は男達を斬るが、娘の心は本物だったことが思い起こされ、娘に忠治の首を渡すのであった。
Ginji is offered a fortune to steal the severed head of the infamous bandit Chūji Kunisada from its display and bury it. He refuses, but when moved by a young woman’s determination to retrieve the head herself, Ginji decides to steal it for her. However, when he delivers the head, Ginji discovers that the men who had earlier tried to bribe him are acquaintances of the woman. Realizing the betrayal, Ginji slays the men, but the woman’s sincerity ultimately convinces him of her true intentions. He entrusts Chūji’s head to her, acknowledging her unwavering resolve.
