信州無宿の丈八は、誤って女の右腕を斬り落としてしまったことから、今度刃を抜いたら右腕を斬ると、自ら長脇差を封印する。それから３年、喧嘩を素手で収める「抜かずの丈八」は渡世内で名を呼んでいた。不運な巡り合わせから小伝馬町送りになった丈八は、牢を出るとそこで世話になった老人・鉄砲の吉兵衛が娘・お京に会うための旅に同道する。しかしそこで見たものは、嫁いで幸せになったはずのお京の、変わり果てた姿であった。娘の敵の悪人は牢内で丈八を半殺しにした男だった。丈八は死んでゆく老人の腕から右腕覚悟で刃をとって…。
Jōhachi, a vagabond of Shinshū, accidentally severs a woman’s right arm during a brawl. Wracked with guilt, he vows never to draw his sword again, declaring that if he ever unsheathes it, he will cut off his own right arm. Three years later, he is known in the underworld as "Jōhachi Who Never Draws," known for resolving conflicts with his bare hands. After being sent to prison due to an unfortunate turn of events, Jōhachi accompanies an old man, Gisaburō the Sharpshooter, to reunite with his daughter, Okyo. However, they discover that the once-happy Okyo has met with a tragic fate. Her enemy turns out to be the very man who brutally assaulted Jōhachi in prison. As the old man dies, Jōhachi takes up his sword, prepared to lose his arm, and confronts the villain for vengeance.
