Der Ausbilder feuert eine Tränengasgranate in den Wohnwagen, um zu demonstrieren, wie explosiv so ein Geschoss sein kann. Bei der riesigen Explosion wird eine Leiche durch die Luft gewirbelt, die sich in der ehemaligen Drogenküche befand. In der Innentasche der Leiche findet man ein Notizbuch mit technischen Zeichnungen und Skizzen. Anhand der Patent-Antragsnummern kann der Besitzer des Notizbuchs und der Jacke ermittelt werden. Es ist der junge Erfinder Paul Stegman. Anscheinend ist der Tote der erst vor kurzem wieder aufgetauchte Vater des Erfinders, der sich die Jacke nur ausgeborgt hatte. Derweil bekommt Booth Besuch von seinem Bruder Jared, der ein hohes Tier beim Militär ist. Jared sucht für eine Dinnereinladung eine intelligente weibliche Begleitung und bittet Booth um Rat. Nach einer durchzechten Nacht wird Jared von der Polizei wegen Trunkenheit am Steuer festgenommen. Booth schafft es, seinen Bruder mit einem Deal freizubekommen, doch um welchen Preis?
Booth’s Brother Jared Booth and Brennan investigate the scene where a body was uncovered during a botched practice police raid. The team identifies the body as a struggling inventor’s father who had recently reunited with his son. But when a second body surfaces, the team is led on a trail of deception to find out who was the actual con-man in the inventor’s life. Clark Edison returns to the lab, and he and Hodgins work on piecing together blueprints from one of the inventor’s potentially valuable inventions.
Meanwhile, Brennan likes Booth's brother and goes out on a date with him. She learns a thing or too about Booth's past while out on the date.
