Poor Isamu is a stand-up comedian who is struggling to get another hit. He presented his comedy routine at a theater, but became depressed after he failed to get a response from the audience each and every day. One day, on his way home, Isamu heard a voice and followed it to the river as if he were being called. There, he saw the yōkai Sara-Kozō washing plates while he cheerfully sang, "Pettara Petarako." Isamu listens and decides to use the song in his routine. Isamu's song and dance rise in popularity. However, Sara-Kozō finds out that his song has been stolen and becomes furious. Kitarō sets out to warn Isamu to stop singing the song, but...

ビンボーイサムは全く売れないピン芸人。劇場に出てネタを披露しては、全くウケずに落ち込む日々が続いていた。ある日の帰り道、何かの声を聴いたイサムは誘われるように川べりの方へ行くと、一匹の妖怪・さら小僧が「ぺったらぺたらこ」と楽しげに唄を歌いながら皿を洗っていた。その様子を盗み見たイサムはこれをネタにして芸をすることを思いつく。かくして、ぺったらぺたらこの唄と踊りで人気に火がついたイサム。しかし、自分の唄が盗まれたと知ったさら小僧は激怒する。鬼太郎もイサムに歌うのをやめるよう警告しに行くのだが…。
