We land on Salt Lake City, Utah where the Vans Warped Tour is kicking off its first show of 2012. Nearly 15,000 fans attend, so the roadies get into work-mode fast. The day starts off great, but in true Warped fashion, roadblocks pop up. Danny, the Setup Crew Chief squares off with an stubborn vehicle. Main Stage Manager, Kenny, faces off with one of the tour's well-known acts when they play over their scheduled end-time.
San Francisco marks the first sold out date of the summer and Warped Prom awaits the crew at the end of the day. Since they rarely get time together, newlywed roadies, Mike and Lindsay, are especially looking forward to prom. Tour Producer and Founder, Kevin Lyman also has family on the road. His daughter Sierra is joining the tour for the first time as a roadie and today is her 17th birthday.
When you wake up in Phoenix, AZ and the temperature's already reached triple digits, you know it's gonna be a hard day. Add to that massive delays in the morning set up and you've got one of the toughest days these roadies have seen. As tempers flare, Tour Producer, Kevin Lyman, steps in to take charge before things get out of hand.
The crew heads to Canada, but crossing the border with 1000+ people is no easy task. Members of the set up crew aren't allowed to cross, leaving their team shorthanded. Kacie, a roadie for Living The Dream, a foundation that fulfills dreams for kids with life threatening afflictions, is hoping to give a very special guest the best day ever with music and new friends.
In Toronto, the day starts off remarkably smooth, but not for long. A major storm sweeps in and an emergency scenario unfolds. As the storm hits, the roadies scramble to shut down the stages and bring thousands of kids to safety under an amphitheater. Once there, the kids and the crew anxiously wait to see if the show will go on.
Back in the USA, the set up crew's happy reunion turns sour when Danny finds out there was trash-talking while he was in NYC. Kenny is having a difficult day too with the pressure of managing main stage building. A prank from Breathe Carolina only adds to Kenny's stress.
In Colorado, the roadies play hard at the set up crew's annual party and no one does that better than Danny. After a long night they head to Vegas and triple digit heat. One crew member falls victim to the heat and a festival-wide water shortage puts the safety of the roadies, bands and fans at risk.
We're in Florida and nearing the end of this crazy adventure. An otherwise perfect day is tainted when a member of the set up crew misses load in, forcing Danny to choose between being a friend and being a boss. Later, the crew says goodbye to a key member when he leaves the tour early for another gig.
As the end of the tour approaches, the weary and bleary road warriors are upended by mistakes and mishaps. Included: One driver must leave the tour due to an accident.
It's the last day of Warped Tour 2012 and unfortunately it's turning out to be the worst. Portland's Fire Marshall shuts down the show and emotions are running high too. The crew reflects on all the ups, downs, relationships, hard work - and of course the parties. It's been an amazing summer and one that we will never forget!
