Since Optimus Prime died in the movie version, the Autobots led by Rodimus Prime fought against the Decepticons led by Galvatron, who evolved from Megatron. This season mentions the origin of the cartoon version of Transformers and the past history of Cybertron. Quintesson joins the fray this season, and Optimus Prime is revived at the end of the season.
