In the series premiere, an American mechanic and his family move to Britain's Isle of Man after finding out he's descended from British nobility.
The Howes meet the locals on their first day on the Isle of Man. Meanwhile, Drew participates in the annual Tin Bath Race; Pam learns the basics of Manx hospitality; and Grace misses her Internet connection.
In order to fit in with the high society on the Isle of Man, the Howes go through etiquette training, but their efforts may not be enough to impress the most influential family in the Isle, which could end Drew's claim to the throne.
The Howes take an RV trip around the Isle. Meanwhile, Pam tries to make a better impression on the ladies of the Women's Institute; and Drew learns the family must become permanent residents to be accepted as royalty.
Pam embraces her role as a monarch by taking Lady Colin's advice on proper behavior for royalty, but she has second thoughts about their future on the island after hearing Drew's antics on a radio show.
Plans for a long-term move to the Isle of Man are made by the Howes, who deem housing and income their top priorities, so Drew markets himself as a taxi driver, radio host and tourist attraction. Meanwhile, Pam is enthusiastic about her new friendships.
In the Season 1 finale, the Howes' six weeks are up, but they take one more chance to gauge local support by hosting a royal garden party.
