Carol a Frankovi dorazí úřední dopis o neplatnosti jejich sňatku, protože kaple, kde byli oddáni, neměla povolení. Ke vzteku všech dětí a přes jejich petici se rozhodnou vzít se znovu. Protože Frank zkazí první pokus na radnici, chce Carol svatbu se vším všudy a za účasti reverenda, jenž o víkendu odjíždí na dovolenou. Stejný den má ale Brendan narozeniny a Frank, aby syna ušetřil zklamání, musí zastoupit oblíbeného klauna, který na poslední chvíli odřekl účast. Tím si pořádně zavaří u Carol, protože málem promešká další termín. Carol však roztaje nad projevem otcovské lásky a vše dobře (na poslední chvíli a v klaunském úboru) dopadne.
Brendan wünscht sich zu seinem Geburtstag eine richtige Party mit dem Clown Yoyo, doch der sagt ab und Frank muss kurzfristig einspringen. Brendans sechster Geburtstag steht bevor und Frank plant, wie an jedem seiner Geburtstage, mit seinem Filius Bowlen zu gehen. Brendan ist zu höflich, um zuzugeben, dass er das eigentlich total langweilig findet. Doch als Carol ihn darauf anspricht , gesteht er, dass er doch lieber eine Party mit seinen Freunden feiern würde. Am liebsten mit Yoyo, dem Clown. Noch ein anderes Fest steht ins Haus. Carol und Frank haben erfahren, dass ihre Ehe nicht rechtsgültig ist, weil sie in einer Hochzeitskapelle ohne Lizenz geheiratet haben. Sie wollen die Zeremonie an Brendans Geburtstag nachholen. Doch dann muss Clown Yoyo absagen und Frank übernimmt den Part. Die Hochzeit scheint ins Wasser zu fallen und Carol ist zutiefst betrübt. Doch Frank kommt nicht nur bei den Kindern riesig an, er schafft es auch, Carol wieder aufzuheitern. Und schließlich kommt es auch noch zu einer Trauung im Eilverfahren.
On Brendan's 6th birthday, Frank wants to take him out for pizza and bowling. but Carol realizes he would prefer a regular party and helps him plan a party with Yo-Yo the clown as the entertainment. Frank and Carol receive word that their wedding was not official or legal. They plan to meet at City Hall and have a romantic lunch, making the entire day special. Frank, however, gets stuck at work and can not give the entire day. Carol then insists on a ""real"" wedding with a Reverend, but he is leaving on Saturday for a 6 month vacation. They arrange to squeeze it in between the party and the outgoing flight. Yo-Yo is unable to come to the party so Frank is forced to dress like a clown and take his place and keeps the costume as his wedding attire.
Frank et Carol apprennent que l'endroit où ils se sont mariés aux Caraïbes n'est pas reconnu par les autorités et que, par conséquent, ils ne sont pas légalement mariés.
