Das Team um Gus Bonner ist auf der Flucht. Die Tlak'khan sind ihnen auf den Fersen und das Team flieht durch das Sternentor. Auf dem Planeten entdecken sie etwas, das wie ein Raumschiff aussieht, allerdings nicht der Bauweise der Tlak'khan entspricht. Obwohl dieses Raumschiff über eine Abwehrfunktion verfügt, will Bonner Zutritt erlangen, um eine Nachricht an das Stargate Command abzusetzen. Stattdessen wollen sie dieses nun nutzen, um zurück auf die Erde zu gelangen. Doch die Tlak'khan haben ihnen eine Falle gestellt und sie auf ihre Heimatwelt gelotst.
The team arrives on a civilized high-tech planet, Rokari, where they determine a comet is heading for the world they're on with only 60 hours to spare. The local government, the Commonality, don't believe their warning and state they have outgrown written and recorded language. The team break out a member of an underground resistance that distributes writing and leads them to a hidden library with info on how to use the planet's defense system. Harrison manages to figure out the language and the team activates the defense system, the Commonality sees the value of writing and everything turns out well.
In un pianeta dove ogni comunicazione è di tipo vocale ed elettronico e sono stati banditi tutti i testi scritti, la squadra Stargate scopre che una cometa sta per abbattersi su di loro. L'unico modo per salvare quel mondo è decifrare uno dei testi antichi che però nessun abitante del pianeta sembra essere in grado di leggere.
