The story of the Manhattan Project, an allied atomic bomb project led by Robert Oppenheimer in the arms race against the Nazis as the ultimate weapon of war resolution. Oppenheimer insisted that his project included scientists of all nationalities and backgrounds because it was a scientific project and insisted that there was a free exchange of ideas and information because that was the only way to confirm access to the bomb. The crisis of this insistence has allowed many scientists involved in the Manhattan Project to act as Soviet spies with their conscious choice and leak weapons to them, because of their conviction that even if the Nazi were to be triumphed, having one side with a deadly weapon would turn it into a neo-Nazi while having more than one would create a state of balance.
تتناول الحلقة قصة مشروع مانهاتن وهو مشروع صنع الحلفاء للقنبلة الذرية بقيادة روبرت أوبنهايمر في سباق التسلح ضد النازيين باعتبارها السلاح النهائي لحسم الحرب. أصر أوبنهايمر ان مشروعه يضم العلماء من كل الجنسيات والخلفيات لإنه مشروع علمي وأصر على وجود تبادل حر للأفكار والمعلومات لأن هذه الطريقة الوحيدة التي تؤكد الوصول للقنبلة. أزمة هذا الإصرار إنه سمح للعديد من العلماء المشاركين في مشروع مانهاتن أن يعملوا كجواسيس للسوفييت باختيارهم الواعي وأن يسربوا الأسلحة لهم، وهذا بسبب قناعتهم إن حتى لو تم الانتصار على النازي فامتلاك جهة واحدة لسلاح فتاك سيحولها لنازي جديد بينما امتلاك أكثر من جهة سيخلق حالة من التوازن.
