Minori is the bullies' favorite target, and always alone, but Takashi and Kyouko want to see her smile. However, the hostile classroom environment holds them back from being able to take a single step in the right direction.
One rainy afternoon, Takashi and Kyouko spot Minori standing alone on the street and call out to her. Later, they make a promise that brings Minori to tears.
Kyouko is thrilled to learn there's another girl on Minori's side, but she hates herself for shutting down as soon as she gets into the classroom. Takashi tries to cheer her up by suggesting they might come up with a solution when they all visit the local aquarium.
The weekend they've waited for is here, and the three head out for the aquarium in the neighboring town, where they won't have to worry about anyone seeing them. While they take their first steps into the special Clione exhibition, Minori's guardian gets called to the hospital.
The trio is on their way home from the aquarium, and Kyouko and Takashi still haven't come up with a plan to help Minori, but they decide to keep making sure she's never left all on her own. All seems for naught, however, when Minori stops coming to school.
Rumors say Minori will never come back to school. As summer vacation starts, Takashi and Kyouko receive a mysterious text message with no information on who sent it, telling them of the summer festival at a familiar shrine.
The reunited trio is enjoying the summer festival--until they run into some bully boys from their class! When they try to run away, they bump into three other classmates, who treat them in a surprisingly different way.
The trio make their way from the shrine to a lighthouse by the sea, where they're granted to the beautiful sight of the lights of their town. As they identify each light in their day-to-day lives, the lonely feelings hidden in their hearts spill forth.
Minori realizes it's time to go and tries to disappear, but she instinctively takes Takashi and Kyoko's outstretched hands. As the rain falls all around them, they spend a few last moments under the roof of a beach house.
When Minori disappears, leaving only her phone behind, Kyoko and Takashi enlist their classmates' help searching for her. When they find out what's happened to Minori, they see the one text she never sent and take a guess at who really sent the mystery text.
Minori's texts, written with no cell service and said to be deleted, make their way to Takashi and Kyoko, a miracle that comes about from the feelings shared between them.
Takashi and Kyoko, with Minori's cell phone in hand, vow to text Minori and keep the promise they made to her that rainy day. Together, they look towards the future.
