Popular quiz show champion Kenkichi Sendo (Toshoiaki Karasawa) is undefeated only thanks to the program staff helping him cheat before each game. When a weekly magazine reveals his secret, he attempts to look up the answers on his own in a panic. Costumer Numata (Hikaru Ijuin) discovers what Sendo is doing and a scuffle ensues leading to Numata's death. Furuhata suspects who killed the costumer in the locked room and decides to challenge the undefeated champion.
人気クイズ番組のチャンピオン・千堂謙吉（唐沢寿明）は、番組スタッフから事前にキーワードを教えてもらう不正で、王座を守っていた。しかし週刊誌にそれを明かされ、焦った千堂は自力でキーワードを調べようと衣裳部屋に忍び込むが、衣装係の沼田（伊集院光）ともみ合いになり、転倒した沼田は頭を強打して死亡する。古畑達が踏み込んだ事件現場にはくさやが散らかっていた。
