Hercules' sculptor friend Thanis was framed for robbery and faced cruel punishment: the loss of both hands. When Iolaus and Hercules set out to prove their friend's innocence, they learned that the deformed god Proteus, who could change his form at will, had committed the crime. He was taking revenge on the village because Thanis' daughter, Daniela, had fled from him after seeing his real reflection. Forced to battle "himself", Hercules made Proteus look upon his own reflection, and the ashamed god gave up the fight. All he ever wanted was Daniela's love.
Hercule et Iolas viennent en aide à leur ami Thanis, un sculpteur de talent, accusé d'un crime qu'il n'a pas commis et qui risque de se faire trancher les mains. Hercule et Iolas découvrent que le vrai coupable est le dieu Protée, qui a la faculté de changer d'apparence.
Hercules e Iolao sono a Vobs, ospiti di Thanis, un loro amico scultore, e di sua figlia Daniella. Iolao accompagna Thanis al mercato dove accade un fatto incredibile. Thanis colpisce a tradimento Trilos, un mercante che conosce da tempo, e fugge con la sua borsa, ma qualche attimo più tardi ricompare come se niente fosse accaduto rischiando di essere linciato dalla folla infuriata. Thanis, el escultor amigo de Hércules, fue acusado de robo y se enfrentó a un cruel castigo: la pérdida de ambas manos. Cuando Iolaus y Hércules se dispusieron a demostrar la inocencia de su amigo, se enteraron de que el dios deforme Proteo, que podía cambiar de forma a voluntad, había cometido el crimen. Se estaba vengando de la aldea porque la hija de Thanis, Daniela, había huido de él tras ver su verdadero reflejo.
