The story follows Ryūsei Narukami, a shut-in who spends his days playing games, but who had once been a Demon King in another world. It also follows Meteor Hanaori, the former hero who defeated him and is now a high school girl.

Ryusei Narukami, un NEET sans emploi qui passe ses journées à jouer aux jeux vidéo, cache un incroyable secret : il est en réalité la réincarnation d’un ancien roi démon. Sa vie monotone prend un tournant inattendu lorsqu’une lycéenne énergique, Meteor Hananori, débarque chez lui… et révèle être la réincarnation de l’héroïne qui l’a vaincu autrefois.
Leurs retrouvailles ne se limitent pas aux querelles d’antan : Ryusei se retrouve bientôt professeur dans le lycée de Meteor, et la rivalité entre l’ancien démon et la jeune héroïne laisse peu à peu place à des sentiments plus profonds.
Ryūsei Narukami è un giovane NEET che in realtà è la reincarnazione di un potente Re Demone di un altro mondo. Meteor Hanaori, una liceale, è invece l'eroina che in passato lo aveva sconfitto. Entrambi rinati, si ritrovano di nuovo faccia a faccia quando Ryūsei diventa insegnante nella scuola di Hanaori. Il loro rapporto oscilla tra rivalità e attrazione, mentre i ricordi della vita precedente riemergono e li costringono a fare i conti con ciò che sono stati e con i sentimenti che, questa volta, rischiano di trasformare la loro "lotta" in qualcosa di molto diverso.
