真山仁の同名小説を現代風にアレンジしてドラマ化。バブル崩壊後、“失われた10年”の渦中に現れた外資ファンド代表の鷲津政彦が、“ハゲタカ”とバッシングを受けながらも、不良債権を抱えた“大銀行”や経営不振の“名門企業”を次々と買収し、勝利するさまを描く。ドラマオリジナルストーリーも盛り込まれる。
