Layne Haznoy (a guy from Lindsay's history class) begins to bring many animals into Creature Comforts, and while there didn't seem to be any problem with Layne's animals (except for a cat in heat), it quickly became obvious that Layne had a crush on Darcy. Meanwhile, Eli, Jack and Victoria (ok...mainly Eli and Victoria) discover the garden has moles. This, of course, leads to many humorous attempts by Eli in getting the mole (the mole stake scares him so bad he falls in the water trough; Victoria lays down sticky paper, which later sticks to Eli when he falls in the mud; Eli tries to flush the mole out with a hose, but only succeeds in soaking himself and stepping on a trap that the local trapper's daughter [RJ] brought; Eli calls down a hawk and the hawk attacks him). The girls try to figure out how to get Layne to stop liking Darcy, but Layne is very persistent, even to the point of buying Eli (Darcy's new pretend BF) a cheeseburger and potato salad, so he (Layne) can go to the dance (on Saturday) with Darcy. Lindsay tells Layne the truth about Darcy's feelings, and just when Layne goes into a sobfest, Darcy comes in the backdoor with RJ in tow, and RJ is wearing the dress Layne gave Darcy.
