Als Natsuki zu Beginn des neuen Schuljahres gefragt wird, welchem Schul-Club sie denn beitreten wolle, antwortet sie: "Dem nach-Hause-geh-Club". Es stellt sich heraus, dass es diesen tatsächlich gibt und so endet sie dort wider Willen als Mitglied. Ihre Freundin Karin tritt ebenfalls diesem Club bei, der bis dahin aus lediglich drei Mitgliedern bestand: Sakura Doumyouji, Botan Oohagi und Claire Kokonoe. Ihre Aktivitäten beschränken sich auf Diskussionen über nahezu alles, Witze und rumspielen.
When a friend asks Natsuki what high school club she's going to join, she cheerfully responds "the go-home club" (meaning, she's not going to join any of them). However, she soon realizes that this club actually exists at her high school, and she's just expressed interest in joining it! Before she knows it, she ends up as one of the two new members of "the go-home club," which is a small group of eccentric school girls. One of the girls likes fighting bears, while another is ridiculously rich. But what exactly constitutes the activities of "the go-home club"?

高校に入学したばかりの安藤夏希は部活での上下関係が面倒くさいと「部活動はしないで、帰宅部でいいや」と考えていた。しかしそれを聞いた夏希のクラスメイト・塔野花梨は「実はこの学校には『帰宅部』という名前の部活動がある」と彼女を部に紹介する。部長の道明寺桜以下の部員は「放課後から帰宅するまで、楽しく過ごす」ことをモットーとした活動をしており、夏希はこの「帰宅部」に流されるまま入部、かくして彼女と帰宅部の部員たちのゆるくない日常が幕を開けた。
이 이야기는 "귀가부"에 있는 고등학교 소녀들에 대한 이야기다. 일반적인 부활동을 하는 것 대신에, "귀가부"는 최대한 재미있게 지내는 것을 목표로 하여, 비디오 게임을 한다던지 공원에서 비둘기에게 먹이를 준다던지 이런 활동을 한다.

Au club des part-tôt, les membres cherchent juste à prendre du bon temps après l'école. Peu importe que le club soit reconnu par l'école, les filles qui le composent s'adonnent à des discussions et des activités des plus loufoques.
