Meanwhile, Margie hears about a 19th-century beast wrestler who championed British wildlife. Margie's on the right track for profits when she secures a great deal on a Hornby train set.
Paul Laidlaw and Margie Cooper have reached the half way point on their humdinger of a journey. The rain fails to dampen spirits in Scarborough but the roof on their convertible Morris Minor remains firmly shut. On the way to an auction in Rotherham, Paul indulges his top two passions of militaria and collecting as he hears about a hero of the First World War who continued to spend a fortune on collectibles while under fire in the trenches. Margie heads to Whitby to find out about local sailors who went to sea in birds' nests. A big drum, a little horseshoe and a World War Two tunic are amongst the interested lots going under the gavel. But has Paul gambled too much of his kitty?

Their reliable Morris Minor takes them from Chesterfield to auction in Leicester. On the way, Paul gets excited about bus conductors, while Margie sweetens the deal with a very peculiar honey separator. Paul's vast knowledge of militaria helps him uncover an unusual collectible from the First World War, though it's questionable whether anyone in the saleroom will know what it is. Margie hopes a gruesome find will attract big bids.
It's the last outing for intrepid antiquers Margie Cooper and Paul Laidlaw. On this final leg, they're shopping in Warwickshire before the last auction in Shrewsbury. Margie goes into hiding, picks up a pair of binoculars and hunts for rare birds. Paul has some fun in Coventry - ditching the Morris Minor, taking to two wheels and a penny farthing. But the big battle comes down to the little lots at auction - Margie's Victorian miniature shoes go up against Paul's tiny toy gun. Who'll be crowned champion of this Road Trip?

Catherine ditches the MG classic car for transport by tram as she hears all about the women of World War I who instigated the first unionised strike for equal pay in Britain.
Catherine Southon and Raj Bisram embark on the final stage of their road trip. Travelling in a classic MG, the duo crossed the country, starting in East Anglia and destined for Bristol. However, it's the battle over a Scottish snuff mull that both experts are attracted to. On the way, Catherine visits Leamington Spa to hear the town's connection to the assassination of one of Hitler's inner circle. Raj, meanwhile, heads to Solihull to take a ride on a motorbike that won races and helped win the war.

An emu, a kangaroo and a frog all head to Exeter to go under the gavel. Excitement around one lot leaves an expert with a very fat piggy and loads of cash to take on the next trip.
Tim Medhurst and Christina Trevanion's road trip reaches its third leg. While rookie Tim continues his tobacco habit with a Boer War pipe, Christina offers a sermon from behind a Victorian lectern. Touring the counties of Somerset and Devon, Tim scales a 500-foot cliff while Christina climbs a wardrobe. Which of them will reach dizzy heights at auction?

In the spirit of the Auld Alliance, Christina spies some Scottish treasure while Tim fancies some French fashionistas of a bygone age.

Tim gets to ring some very big bells while Christina calls in on a design museum and harks back to the utility furniture of the war and postwar era. Coin expert Tim finally buys a coin - it costs him a mint. Jewel magpie Christina stocks up on silver, diamonds and rubies. Whose treasure trove will be worth a king's ransom at the final auction? And who will be crowned winner?

Charles buys a straw pipe from the Napoleonic era, while Margie goes for a mysterious brass object - but it's a gamble as no-one knows what it actually is. Even a call to knowledgeable Paul Laidlaw draws a blank. In a Gateshead pub Charles is advised how best to use a sword when dancing, and Margie appreciates unlikely works of art produced by coal miners in the 1930s. It's a busy auction in Burnley. Will anyone know what Margie's brass thing is? Can Charles's Qianlung-period dish attract big bids? And who will celebrate with a bottle of 1966 champagne?
Margie Cooper and Charles Hanson go on an antiques escapade through Yorkshire. Feeling the heat in Harrogate, it's time to strip off and cool down like a Victorian. Charles uncovers some legal papers dating back some 400 years - will £200 spent on a toss of a coin prove a costly mistake? Margie hopes a large album of Second World War maps will find her a big profit at auction. Margie detours to end up in a very, very dark barn before enjoying some tasty rhubarb crumble. Then it is time for the all-important auction in Leeds.

Margie also goes 17th century but finds a crib that's much more within budget. Off the beaten track, Charles plays a game known as the poor man's golf, though he struggles to score any points. Margie learns about a local glass manufacturer with a royal seal of approval. The final auction is in Harrogate. Will it be the U-boat binoculars or the Victorian lamp that decides the winner?

After their border raids they retreat to Cumbria, but who will manoeuvre into pole position at auction?
Angus Ashworth puts both his left feet forward in a spot of Lancashire clog dancing, while David Harper reads from a secret diary written in code which reveals explicit details of a relationship sealed in what might be Britain's first gay marriage, 200 years ago. A pact to surprise one another results in things taking a continental turn - David takes up the accordion, a vintage Italian one, while Angus hopes a French pipe in the shape of a cockerel won't go up in smoke at auction. Unsurprisingly, Angus has to go cap in hand to his last dealer to secure a last purchase, intent on blowing his entire stash once again. Who will salvage their fortunes this time as they make their way to a saleroom in Angus's beloved Yorkshire with a boot load of chimney pots, old cases and a galvanised steel washtub? As they say in these parts, where there's muck there's brass

Will military might prevail at the Harrogate auction?

Angus takes the pilgrims' watery route over the sea to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, and David Harper hoofs it up the longest avenue in Scotland at Marchmont House. Raiding antiques shops on both sides of the border, they bag some booty in a last-ditch attempt to win the day. With his head full of saints and relics, Angus is drawn to two rather gothic purchases, while David gets in touch with his militant feminist side, snapping up some hat pins he thinks are of Suffragette origin. As they career towards the finishing line at an auction in Alnwick, it is the last chance for them to show what they are made of.
Charles Hanson and Christina Trevanion are reunited in a classic car, six years since their last Road Trip break. They kick off their coast-to-coast antiques odyssey in Morecambe. Charles flexes his muscles, and his wallet, picking up a 250-year-old table, while Christina takes a heavy horse to the Sheffield auction, in spite of some conservative spending. A messy encounter with a seagull almost ruins one deal for Charles before he takes to the sky himself in Blackpool’s historic flying machine.
Christina Trevanion and Charles Hanson continue their road trip, this time on the Welsh border. In a horse-themed episode, Christina ditches the sporty classic car for four legs as she rides her way into a lesson about the English Civil War, while Charles learns why the gee gees are so important to Chester. Fingers are crossed that a croquet set will prove popular at the Burnley auction, but the star of this episode is Fred – long limbed, heavily bandaged and 110 years old. Will this little bear steal the hearts of the Burnley bidders?
Antique experts Charles Hanson and Christina Trevanion are road tripping around Yorkshire in a vintage vroom vroom, searching for profitable buys from a bygone age. What will prove popular at the Bedale auction? Charles makes an unscheduled pit stop and finds an exciting artefact in a toilet, while Christina is literally dancing for joy with one of her purchases, a lovely 1930s party dress. Our intrepid antiquers also explore some local history. Christina discovers yorkshire terriers weren’t always so cute and cuddly, while Charles hears a story of Victorian ear trumpets.
Antique experts Charles Hanson and Christina Trevanion are road tripping around Yorkshire in a vintage convertible searching for relics of a bygone age they can snap up and sell on for a profit at auction in Rotherham. Christina gets bitten by the keep-fit bug and buys some vintage weights, while Charles purchases an unusual artefact - a Victorian skirt lifter - but only after a demonstration from a blushing dealer. A short detour then allows Christina to learns about a thousand-year-old custom in the village of Ripon, while Charles is given a lesson in medieval archery and explores the ancient walls of York.
Antique experts Christina Trevanion and Charles Hanson are on the last leg of their coast-to-coast journey from Morecambe to Newcastle. Christina buys some quirky curios, while Charles splurges on a multitude of items including a Roman-era ring that he titles the Hanson Hoard. The road trip pit crew leap into action when smoke appears inside the classic car, and all fingers point to Charles for this minor mishap. Our intrepid antiquers also detour away from the local emporiums. Christina visits Northampton, the shoemaking capital of Britain, to discover why and how the industry has thrived for hundreds of years. Charles cycles to meet a historian and hear of a Great War cavalry battalion who used bikes rather than horses.
Auctioneers Catherine Southon and Tim Medhurst get behind the wheel of a magnificent safari-style Land Rover for trip from the South Downs to Christchurch on the Dorset coast. It’s the first time they have been paired together, so who will come out on top at auction? As well as lots of top treasure-seeking along the way, today’s episode also includes a visit to the Wealden Iron Man and the story of the Indian entrepreneur who introduced both curry and shampoo to Britain.
The contest between Catherine Southon and Tim Medhurst remains nicely poised. On this second leg, our pair of affable antiquers are abroad on the highways and mostly byways of Hampshire and Sussex, starting out amongst the fabulous ponies of the New Forest. Decked out in matching tweed, Tim and Catherine will also venture to Southampton Water to discover the ancient and environmentally friendly art of tide milling, and they learn about Portsmouth’s man of the millennium – a cobbler who helped the needy.
It’s the halfway point of our treasure trip. Experts Catherine Southon and Tim Medhurst hit the shops between St Albans and Bushey, with Tim bagging himself a piece of American folk art and Catherine plumping for some items that would serve very well at elevenses. But will their plans pay off at the Hertfordshire auction? Along the way, Tim sends up a drone to check on the ultimate field trial, and Catherine finds out about a man who was pulling out all the stops in the nineteenth century – but can she play to his tune?
The fourth leg of this week's trip sees experts Catherine Southon and Tim Medhurst in the shires. After starting out in Shropshire, they visit Worcestershire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. And should the pair get peckish, Tim has some very ‘interesting’ sandwich recipes he’s happy to share. Catherine and Tim also climb the farm track that doubles as one of the oldest motorsport venues in the world and drive a tractor backwards, before heading off to an exciting auction in the town of Stroud to sell some medals and what Tim thinks could be a Roman or Saxon coffin.
It’s the final leg with auctioneers Catherine Southon and Tim Medhurst, as they explore the rolling Cotswold hills in their 1970s off-roader. The extremely circuitous open road has somehow brought them all the way from Rye in Sussex to Cirencester in Gloucestershire, where they encounter ancient artefacts, dry stone walls and lots and lots of sheep. But who will win out at the final auction in Devizes?
Avuncular veteran road tripper James Braxton takes a spin across the south east with youthful novice Izzie Balmer. She’s an auctioneer with a penchant for jewellery, but will she take the crown with her jewels? James gets waylaid by a heady brew of beer and witchcraft, and Izzie bumps into painted ladies and monarchs while discovering how the art of tattooing became popular in the west. A potter’s wheel encourages James to channel his inner Patrick Swayze, while Izzie reveals herself to be more in tune with famous Scottish bard Robert Burns. Tring Tring! Tring Tring! Hello? Yes, they’re on their way to the Hertfordshire town for auction. Who knows whether age or beauty will triumph?
The sunny Izzie Balmer tours Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire with her self-confessed curmudgeonly counterpart James Braxton. However, Izzie’s cakes soon have him eating out of her hand. Izzie goes on a strictly declassified mission to Bletchley Park, where code-breakers cracked messages from Hitler, while James dons a bandana and takes on the cream of English badminton. Mr Braxton takes a measured approach with some wooden rulers and applies his weight test to a Chinese table, and Miss Balmer is dazzled by an expensive ring made of lava from Mount Vesuvius and some glassware made of depleted uranium. Sparks may fly!
James and Izzie are off and running again, and the going is flat. That’s because they’re in the eastern counties of Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. Izzie gets her skates on and finds her bandy legs on the ice for a go at a winter sport that began in the Fens, while our resident gourmand drops a 'clanger', a local delicacy that was once a staple food of those who laboured on the land in these parts.
Izzie and James visit the most easterly town in the country. Izzie potters about in Lowestoft learning about the porcelain 'trifles' manufactured for the 18th-century tourist trade, while James goes crabbing in Cromer. True to form, Izzie just can’t resist the attractions of chairs - Edwardian and Georgian. And James can’t say no to a gigantic wine rack to go with his French cafe table. James is all fired up by a cannonball from a 1672 naval battle, and Izzie is charmed by an art deco necklace. Will age or beauty win the day at auction in Banbury?
For the final leg of their road trip, Izzie and James are touring Izzie’s native Derbyshire, where she tempts the gourmand with some local delicacies. Our keen ambassador for her home county is also on a mission to find Blue John. James, meanwhile, falls for a pretty lady and hopes that an Ashbourne slate fireplace will fan the flames of success. Needless to say, Izzie continues her chair obsession with a matching pair. There’s a blast from the past as James is carried away by the news from the 1780s, while Izzie follows in the tracks of Winston Churchill. But whose will be victory at auction in Lincoln?
We’re travelling in style with antiques experts Arusha Irvine and Angus Ashworth, who are out for a wee saunter around the country lanes of Northern Ireland in their stately, yet elderly, Rolls-Royce. Angus gets a musical welcome to his shopping and has designs on a piece of Victorian furniture made from an unusual material. Roo, meanwhile, seems to be fixated on collecting one particular type of jewellery. But will their tastes match those of the bidders? On their travels, Roo hits the dancefloor to have a go at Irish dancing, while Angus is put through his paces when he trains like a US ranger. They end their journey crossing the Irish Sea and attending a Welsh auction in Wrexham.
Experts Roo Irvine and Angus Ashworth hit the B-roads of south west Wales on the second leg of their hunt for antique treasures. After losing a bundle on the last auction, Angus is having to stretch his tiny budget a long way if he has any hope of catching up with his rival. Roo has no such worries, although the luxury car lifestyle that their Rolls-Royce affords them has gone to her head. Amidst all the shopping, Angus takes to the water in a particularly Welsh boat, while Roo finds out exactly what the Welsh do with all those sheep. They’re heading to an auction in Carmarthen, where there might be a few surprises, one of which relates to Angus’s ancestry.
It’s the midpoint of the road trip for antiques experts Roo Irvine and Angus Ashworth as they continue to scour the shops of south Wales for all things antique. After a huge profit at the last auction, one expert takes a big punt on a piece of local history that might not be that local after all. Another has to shop more cautiously, having lost a bundle last time out. But it seems memorabilia from Hollywood’s golden age is very affordable. Away from the shops, Angus goes down to the beach to hunt for a particular Welsh delicacy, and Roo ventures on the high seas to find the story of a boat that has saved thousands of lives. They cross the border for an auction in the Cotswolds, but will the people of Wotton-under-Edge rate their purchases?
We’re wandering the West Country with antiques experts Roo Irvine and Angus Ashworth. As both of them are fans of a clotted cream tea, it’s little wonder why they’ve ended up in Devon and Somerset. Roo is having to make her money go a long way yet gets her hands on some hefty items. Angus, meanwhile, seems to find reminders of his home everywhere he looks. Away from the shops, Roo comes face to face with Exmoor’s equine inhabitants. Angus bares all at a once quite exclusive beach that can only be accessed by tunnel – though he wishes the water were warmer. The duo end up at an auction in Exmouth, where they find out if their lots bring them success or disaster.
It's the end of the road for two enthusiastic experts Roo Irvine and Angus Ashworth, hitting the antiques shops of the West Country once more in search of interesting artefacts to take to their final auction. Roo is having to manage her money very carefully, but she’s got her eye on a very large and dangerous-looking farming implement. Although he’s in a much better financial position, it’s Angus feeling the pressure, but he still has time to knock out a 'tune' on one of his purchases. Roo takes a break from shopping and heads off to a funfair where, as well as winning a coconut, she finds out how the travelling fairs helped to boost morale during the Great War. Angus heads to Plymouth to discover the turbulent history of gin, before having a go as a master distiller, chin chin. It all comes to the crunch at their final auction in Clevedon. Who will emerge victorious?
Philip Serrell and Stephanie Connell are antiques-hunting in Cumbria. They sally forth from Cockermouth and point their 1960s classic car towards an auction near Kendal. Phil visits a boatyard for an unlikely purchase before heading deep underground for a history lesson. Steph meets a relative of a local lord who spent the family fortune but has left a remarkable sporting legacy. Both experts decide to buy chairs. Phil plumps for a rocker, while Steph goes Arts and Crafts. But when the classic car breaks down, Steph regrets buying a very heavy antique.
Expert Steph Connell has a big surprise for Phil Serrell on his birthday as they continue their road trip adventure. Setting off from Dumfries and Galloway, they head to an auction showdown in Edinburgh. Phil skips an antiques shop to visit a book shop and leaves with a novel buy. Steph puts on some wellies and heads upstream to the highest village in the country in the hope of finding a gold nugget in the freezing waters. At the auction, the two experts go head to head with classic Scottish souvenir ware, but who’ll come out on top?
It’s the midway point for Phil Serrell and Steph Connell as they cruise Caledonia in their 1960s classic car. Steph becomes puppet master as she tours the Scottish Borders in pursuit of profits, but Phil is distracted by the local cuisine. At the end of the first day’s shopping, all he’s bought is some lunch. With a belly full of square sausage, will he have the energy to find antiques to take to the auction in Hamilton or just suffer from indigestion? When the shopping finally gets underway, it’s a chic French sign that excites Steph, while Phil continues to be distracted by food with the most peculiar buy of the trip so far - a very old potato chipper. One thing’s for sure: one huge antique purchase certainly won’t fit in the boot of the classic car.
We’re back in Scotland for the penultimate leg of this road trip with expert antiquers Philip Serrell and Stephanie Connell. Phil finds his sea legs with a spot of sailing in the Firth of Clyde, whilst Steph tries her hand at weaving tartan on a traditional Renfrewshire loom. Perhaps a new scarf for Phil? A visit to a salvage emporium means Phil is in his element as he discovers a cabinet that once displayed one of the world’s most expensive books. There’s a nautical theme when our pair navigate their way to an auction showdown in Dunfermline: Steph is up a creek with her paddle, while shipmate Phil’s binnacle makes waves.
It’s Steph Connell and Phil Serrell’s final adventure, and they’re crossing three counties in pursuit of north east England’s most profitable antiques. With Steph playing catch up, Phil makes the most expensive purchase of his trip, but will he be struck with buyer’s remorse? Will Steph’s discovery of a gramophone be music to her ears? Steph tries her hand at playing the bagpipes in Hexham, whilst Phil finds out how coal mining led to the development of Britain’s rail network. He gets the jitters before the final auction in Darlington, but is he right to be worried?
The Home Counties host antiques experts Catherine Southon and James Braxton, paired together for the first time. It’s friendly but competitive from the off as they settle in to their stately motor, a 1969 Rover P5. The duo banter, barter and browse as they shop for bargains to take to auction. And they both take detours along the way. Catherine hears how one of the UK’s most popular flowers was saved from extinction, while James takes a ride in a car manufactured in 1902 and learns all about a family business that began in the late 19th century and still makes vehicles today. But their focus is firmly fixed on finding the best antiques, with a starting budget of £200. For Catherine small is beautiful, while James prefers the large and noisy. Who will win the day and make the most profit when their items go under the hammer in Bourne End?
Antiques Road Trip veterans Catherine Southon and James Braxton are on the second leg of their five-part expedition, acquiring the very best antiques their budget allows. Pride and profits are at stake, and with Catherine in the lead after winning the last auction, James is determined to close the gap. This time they hit the road in Worcestershire, Warwickshire and the West Midlands. James ends up on stage for an impromptu performance at the Royal Shakespeare Company, while Catherine discovers the little-known history of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Both experts go potty for papier-mâché, but will it be the pretty writing box or the pair of prop cannon that makes the most profit? That’s if James and Catherine make it to the sale room - there’s confusion as to whether they’re heading to the correct auction. Will they ever make it to Shropshire?
With a mere £70 between them, the battle is on! Catherine Southon and James Braxton are back on the road in their fabulous 1969 Rover, county hopping from Leicestershire to South Yorkshire. Both borrow their rival’s tactics this time around. Catherine buys whatever takes her fancy – and that includes a very Braxton-style purchase in the shape of a table. Meanwhile, James goes arts and crafts crazy and, in a very Catherine-like move, spends just a fraction of his budget. Away from the antiques hunt, Catherine learns all about the bravery and glory of the Staffordshire Regiment, their very proud doggy mascot and the story of the most decorated soldier of the Great War – a man who never fired a gun. James discovers the local delicacy little known outside the region but key to sustaining the pottery workers in the 18th and 19th centuries. And he gets baking with a local baker who still makes traditional Staffordshire oatcakes today. But when the gavel comes down in Elsecar, South Yorkshire there can be only one winner.
It’s the fourth leg of Catherine Southon and James Braxton’s road trip, and success at the last auction means one expert has double the kitty of their rival. There’s pride at stake as our pair head across Derbyshire and Leicestershire to an auction in Bedford in their stately classic 1969 Rover. The twosome’s shopping choices could not be more diverse. How do Catherine’s 18th-century caryatid carvings measure up against James’s very old bowl of marbles? And away from the antiques, Catherine gets steamed up on the heritage Great Central Railway, and James goes potty about pottery. It’s a romp and a half, and with a mix up over one item and a costly gamble on another, who will come out on top in the penultimate auction?
It is crunch time! With just six pounds separating them, veteran antiques trippers Catherine Southon and James Braxton battle it out on the final leg of their adventure. They travel through Cambridgeshire and Suffolk to Bourne in Lincolnshire in their smart and stately 1969 Rover P5. Along the way, Catherine meets a stallion in Newmarket, the home of thoroughbred horse racing, and even takes a ride herself. And James dips for wildlife on the Fens while discovering the influential banker whose passion for the environment led to conservation as we know it today. Back on the antiques trail, our terrific twosome seek out the best buys as they go head to head at the Lincolnshire auction. But will a jug in the shape of an owl or a biscuit tin in the form of a travelling trunk make the biggest profit?
Road Tripping favourites Charlie Ross and Izzie Balmer start their antiques hunt in the bucolic Cotswold town of Stow-on-the-Wold. They’re pointing their 1960s classic car to Wales via Gloucestershire in the hunt for profit-making collectables. Charlie’s campaign for brown furniture is momentarily put on hold when he picks up a military first aid kit for a quite intimate area. Can he secure it for a rock-bottom price? Izzie’s eclectic mix of buys include a toast rack and a tutti-frutti bowl. Izzie detours from the shops to head to the oldest Welsh mountain pony stud in the world to discover the incredible history of one of Wales’s native breeds. Meanwhile, Charlie finds himself in Cirencester unlocking the city’s fascinating past at the centre of the Roman Empire. The story is right beneath his feet! A nail-biting auction in Cardiff concludes this first leg, and an unexpected big profit puts one Tripper firmly in the lead.
Charlie and Izzie continue their B-road romp, pointing their classic car towards Surrey. Gemologist Izzie finds a piece of jewellery that causes quite a stir at auction, while Charlie’s passion for furniture in all shades of brown sees him uncover a very rare table that sparks a frenzy of bids at the Dorking auction. Ditching the classic car, Charlie heads down river in a desperate attempt to keep eels swimming, while Izzie looks up to the sky in admiration of Britain’s first female astronomer.
Experts Charlie Ross and Izzie Balmer find themselves weaving their classic car through the B-roads of the North Wessex Downs. Charlie decides to play Izzie at her own game and hunts for sparkly antiques. However, he's soon distracted by an exquisite Edwardian box that holds a surprise. Izzie rolls up her sleeves and rummages in a shop's store room. What goodies will she uncover? During a break from shopping, Charlie learns how an ancient Egyptian toe has relevance to advances in medical science today, and Izzie discovers how silk production moved from China to these shores and why the location of a mill made the area famous for the luxury fabric. Then it's on to an exciting auction in Exeter.
It's the fourth leg of our trip with experts Izzie Balmer and Charlie Ross. After a quick lesson in how to identify different wood, Izzie gambles on some brown furniture – but is it made from beech or ash? Charlie, meanwhile, ends up in a shop's storeroom and uncovers an antique he's never before seen but is confident will excite the bidders of Sidmouth. Izzie rests from shopping and goes on a nature ramble in the footsteps of one of the world's first ecologists, Gilbert White, the man who influenced Charles Darwin. And Charlie hears a story of industrial espionage, religious persecution and people smuggling, and why all this meant one small town would become world famous for... carpets. All roads lead to auction in the seaside town of Sidmouth. But who will be buying celebratory ice creams for the journey home?
Captain Izzie Balmer and first mate Charlie Ross are sailing to the Isle of Wight for their final leg of this road trip. It's an action-packed episode – Charlie rips his trousers while on horseback, Izzie ditches the classic car in favour of a speedboat, and will they miss the last ferry back to the mainland? Charlie falls for a brass jardiniere stand, but there's a problem with the price ticket that only the dealer can resolve. Izzie, when not devouring fish and chips, relies on her jewellery expertise to identify some ruby and diamond earrings. Izzie takes to the waves to hear about the history of the merchant navy and the school that prepares mariners for a life at sea. Charlie, meanwhile, learns about one of the first amusement parks in the country and why the jaw of a whale toppled Queen Mary's hat. Our experts go into auction battle one last time in Battle, East Sussex. Izzie's silver brooch is up against Charlie's silver pen, but which expert will take gold and win the final leg of the trip?
The start of a brand new Road Trip with a fresh-faced expert making a debut appearance. Old hand Angus Ashworth is showing 'new boy' Steven Moore the ropes in the first of a five leg adventure. Steven is a former dealer, auctioneer and museum curator and has been valuing antiques on the telly for years. However, has he got what it takes to beat veteran Tripper Angus when it comes to finding valuable antiques? Their 1960 Hillman Super Minx fires up in the Scottish Borders, and purrs towards an auction in the Lake District at Crooklands, near Kendal. As well as lots of top treasure seeking, today’s episode also includes the story of the country’s greatest archers and a trip to a part of Scotland that’s slowly revealing its secrets to archaeologists.
It’s the second leg of the trip and our two chums, Steven Moore and Angus Ashworth, plus their shiny, white Hillman Super Minx called ‘Betty’, are shopping their way along the byways of Scotland. Yorkshireman Angus bags something aromatic and coffee related, while Geordie new boy Steven plumps for a little treasure from his fellow tripper’s back yard in Yorkshire. But will their plans pay off at the auction? On the way, we visit Scotland’s largest lowland loch to find out about a fascinating former resident who made a dramatic escape from imprisonment and also take a crash course in chemistry. All before heading to the sale room at Kinbuck.
It’s the halfway point of our treasure trip, and experts Angus Ashworth and Steven Moore are still having fun in bonnie Scotland. Today they take the low road which is just as well considering their 1960s Hillman Minx has serious issues with hills! Auctioneer Angus, a Yorkshireman, thinks his Scottish name might somehow help him in the haggle. While Steven, a Geordie and former auctioneer, dealer and curator - prefers to subtly roll his ‘R’s… On the way to a saleroom back below the border in Clitheroe, they discover the well-spring of water polo and enjoy a very soggy Highland Games. Expect swimming costumes and caber tossing.
It’s the fourth leg of our trip with experts Steven Moore and Angus Ashworth and they get an awful lot closer to home. After clocking up the miles in lovely lowland Scotland their Hillman Super Minx will today be hitting the byways of Derbyshire and Yorkshire. Angus and Steven also visit a couple of venerable survivors from the Industrial Revolution and enjoying yet more delicious indigenous pastry products, before heading off to an exciting auction in the North Yorkshire town of Bedale. But will Angus’s crystal ball prophecy prove correct?
It’s the final leg with our experts and new-found chums Steven Moore and Angus Ashworth. Not to mention their sparkling white 1960 Hillman Super Minx called Betty. Today they’re out and about in the North East of England. The extremely circuitous open road having somehow taken hundreds of miles to get there from nearby Melrose in the Scottish Borders. There will be Whitby jet, the sheep of the beautiful North York Moors and even a trip back north to Dundee. Plus, Steven takes up painting in the footsteps of the ‘Northern Impressionists’ and Angus decides to go for gold and parts with a small fortune. He’ll need a good sit down afterwards though!
We’ve popped over the Irish Sea for a road trip that takes in all the delights that Northern Ireland has to offer. Antiques experts Louise Gostelow and David Harper are on the tourist trail in their classic Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet, seeing the sights and snapping up bargains. David discovers a whole new way of haggling - the Ballymena Bargain - while Louise, who employs a more traditional negotiating technique, gets to grips with a tin toy till. But will either of them cash in when they get to auction? David visits the oldest distillery in the world for a drop of 'uisce beatha', the water of life, while Louise heads to the coast to sample some seaweed. Then it’s off to the big city, Belfast, for an auction that goes on into the night.
Louise Gostelow and David Harper continue their adventures in Northern Ireland. As they hit the shops, David gets quite a shock when he gets his hands on a Victorian cure-all. He also sneakily muscles in on Louise’s strategy for success at the auction. She finds an ally whilst out shopping, someone who knows David of old and has a score to settle. But which tactic will reap the most rewards? Along the way, Louise discovers the inspiring story of a formidable Belfast woman who fought tirelessly for social change, and David travels back to Ireland’s ancient past to hear the tales of this land’s legendary heroes. Then it’s time to say goodbye to Northern Ireland as they head off to an auction in Lancashire for a dogfight.
Our two roadtrippers, Louise Gostelow and David Harper, embark on the north western leg of their antiques odyssey - as soon as they work out which way up the map goes. They hit the B roads in their old VW Beetle, scouring Lancashire and Cumbria for items of interest. After David came a cropper at the last auction, courtesy of a pair of pooches, he finds another four-legged friend to fall in love with. Louise makes a furry friend of her own, but she’ll have to do some extreme rummaging to unearth the all-important missing key. Along the way, Louise gets down to work in a dairy, finding out about the man who standardised the method for making Lancashire cheese, and David heads into the Lake District to find out why the woods around Windermere once rang with the sound of industry. Then it’s off to Cheshire for an exciting auction in Runcorn.
We’re wandering through Wales in the company of Louise Gostelow and David Harper, on the fourth leg of this trip. They’ll be practicing a few 'useful' Welsh phrases, hoping to endear themselves to the antiques dealers in the area. On their travels, Louise samples a British first - a drink that sold all around the world before it took off in its hometown - and David heads to the coast to hear the melodious sounds of a Welsh male voice choir, before unleashing his own vocal stylings on an unsuspecting audience. On the shopping front, Louise is hoping to be sitting pretty with her ever-growing collection of chairs - and the odd bit of ammunition thrown in for good measure. David, meanwhile, is trying to step out of his comfort zone. He’s on a mission to buy things he doesn’t have the first clue about. We’ll find out which strategy pays off when they hit the auction room in Liverpool.
We’re nearing the end of the road for our two adventurous antiquers, Louise Gostelow and David Harper. They’re out on the windy moors of West Yorkshire, hoping to bag an item or two to take to their final auction. Louise is looking to clean up as she gets her hands on a very early labour-saving device, as well as an illuminating bit of retro chic. David takes a shine to some theatre seats, but things get complicated when he tries to work out how many he can afford. He also has his eye on a saddle for a camel, which is bound to be indispensible in Yorkshire. Whilst out and about, David heads to Huddersfield to hear about the history of rugby league, before facing off against two big players of the game, both in reputation and stature. Meanwhile, Louise has her honour fought for by an actual knight in shining armour when she finds out about the development of jousting. Then it’s off to their final tournament in the seaside town of Scarborough. Who will emerge victorious?
Natasha Raskin Sharp and Raj Bisram take a ride through the garden of England in a 1960s Sunbeam rally car. Strapped in for the trip, they soon discover a common interest in a little bit of magic. Natasha splashes out on an expensive French sunburst clock, and a Victorian scent bottle has her swooning with the romance of a royal love affair. Meanwhile, former soldier Raj finds ammunition boxes and a steel helmet a lot more attractive, and our military man also visits a very special village caring for those who have served in the armed forces. A detour sees Natasha helping to put a Second World War Spitfire back in the air, but a lesson in Morse code sees her putting out an SOS. Their first auction is in Essex at Rayleigh, and both experts are hoping to come out on top.
Natasha and Raj continue their rallying through East Anglia in the 1960s Sunbeam Rapier. Raj goes native with a spot of step dancing in a local pub, while Natasha spends a penny on a jukebox from the 1800s at a collection of self-playing musical instruments. Raj's expensive collection of uranium glass might glow in the dark, but will it go nuclear at auction? Natasha's head is turned by a posh suitcase from Fortnum & Mason, but is it a case of all fur coat and no knickers? And Natasha just doesn't see what's coming when Raj asks to borrow a tenner. Abracadabra! A change in fortunes for one expert at auction in Woking means an exciting end to this leg of the trip.
Continuing their tour of Kent, Raj Bisram takes on a mighty mollusc in Rye, where scallops are king, while Natasha Raskin Sharp pushes the boat out on the Royal Military Canal for a closer look at the coastal defences designed to see off invasion from France. Raj nets a post-Napoleonic French eagle while cherubs and art deco costume jewellery are more madame's style. But despite heading for an antiques and fine art sale, Raj can't resist the risky purchase of an old oak coffer, which empties his pockets. Natasha splashes out on an expensive whisky noggin. Which of them will clean up at the Colchester sale?
Natasha Raskin Sharp and Raj Bisram go rallying on the B roads of Norfolk. Raj stops off to go wild in wellies at one of Britain's first nature reserves, while Natasha makes for the sea and the imprint of a deep sea fisherman turned artist. They're animal crackers on this leg, as Raj nets a fine butterfly and Natasha falls for a kitten in a basket and an owl. She also takes a punt on a pair of polo horses. Being an auctioneer, Natasha is drawn to an inexpensive and unusual gavel, while Raj gets in touch with his inner child and parts with some of his pocket money for a vintage train set. Next stop? Leicester for a very important auction.
For Raj, the bells are ringing in Loughborough as they rally to the finishing line. But Natasha's in the ring, fighting back, channelling the spirit of a Nottingham bare-knuckle boxing legend. And for their last auction in Cambridge, there's a 1970s theme going on as Raj weighs in with a large set of standing scales with no old 10p coin to check they work. And Natasha can't resist thoughts of cocktail sausages on sticks and shells out for a lazy Susan. Natasha steps aboard a narrowboat antiques shop moored on a canal while Raj rummages in the den of a fantastic pair of foxes and emerges with perhaps his most unpredictable purchase to date. But whose cunning plan will win the day?
Charles Hanson and James Braxton search out antiques in Oxfordshire, on their third adventure together. One of them finds a piece of jewellery that could be very valuable indeed.
Charles Hanson is excited to discover a very rare table. His rival, James Braxton, puts his antiques hunt on hold to visit a medieval vineyard in Bedfordshire. Cheers!
It’s the halfway point of Charles Hanson and James Braxton’s epic journey around southern England. Today, our experienced road trippers, auctioneers and chums will start shopping in Suffolk before ending up on the Kent coast at Chatham. But whose buys will make the most profit at auction? Each expert takes to the road in his own classic car to fill with treasure. Charles gambles a huge sum of money on a 200-year-old oil painting, whereas James decides to play it safe, picking up an antique with local provenance. These different tactics may well decide this leg’s winner. The two antiquers also discover how the pagan ancient Egyptian corn dolly became a Christian East Anglian institution, and they get a short lesson in the history of yoga (including the bit about goats).
Auctioneer Charles Hanson and fellow gavel basher James Braxton are back on the road, navigating their way around Kent in a 1950s MG and a 1960s Austin Healey. Expect fruit, lots of fruit! Well, it is the Garden of England after all. Plus, in Gillingham, the restored paddle steamer they call the Heroine of Dunkirk. Our treasure seekers remain true to form, with ‘Bamboo Braxton’ finding an unusual Japanese artefact made from just that material. Charles, the self-proclaimed Road Trip 'dandy', is drawn to some Georgian sugar nips. All of which makes for a very exciting auction in Essex.
It’s the last leg with expert gavel bashers Charles Hanson and James Braxton. This is the final opportunity for both experts to find the most profitable antiques, and James is determined to take his first Road Trip victory. The open road has somehow brought them, in their classic cars, all the way south to Hampshire. James is drawn to an exotic alcohol container, while Charles’s eye lands on an unusual pocket watch stand, but whose treasure trove will be worth a king’s ransom at the final auction? And who will be crowned the week's winner? Along the way, Charles’s struggles with the art of signwriting, and James meets a little owl.
A new antiques adventure sets off with good pals Natasha Raskin Sharp and Margie Cooper. Behind the wheel of their 1960,s motor they start out in the west of Scotland, en route to an auction in Dumfries. Their trip through bonnie Scotland inspires some local purchases. A model of a Scottish terrier intrigues one expert, while their rival plumps for a Robert Burns-themed object. Which will attract the most bids? Along the way, the two antiquers take a break from their shopping to uncover the secret recipe of a nation’s favourite dish, and they slip into armour to re-enact a famous battle.
Antiques experts Margie Cooper and Natasha Raskin Sharp are on the second leg of their tightly fought trip. It’s a Caledonian canter in a classic coupé, as our pair hit the shops looking for goodies to sell at auction. While Margie goes all mushy for a vintage monkey pyjama case, Natasha takes a chance with a rare piece of Victoriana. There’s also a bit of sightseeing along the way as Natasha hones her boat-building skills and Margie seeks the stars in the darkest of dark skies. As the rain lashes against the windscreen, our competitors get all cosy and chatty in the car, but will they stay that way when their items cross the border into Leicestershire, headed for the auction?
It’s the third leg of the antiques odyssey of dealer Margie Cooper and auctioneer Natasha Raskin Sharp. Touring around the Lake District, Natasha is behind the wheel of the smooth and sassy 1960s Mercedes motor, while Margie ends up on a pushbike! Natasha discovers a musical secret hidden in the shadow of Skiddaw, while for Margie it’s the very essence of the Lake District, the freshwater upon which it thrives, that takes centre stage. It’s a tight-run race for auction glory as Natasha falls for a rare piece of Edwardian silver and Margie gets creative with two arty items. Who will come out in front when their goodies go under the hammer in Lichfield?
It’s the fourth leg of the trip for antiques dealer Margie Cooper and auctioneer Natasha Raskin Sharp, and Lancashire is their destination. Natasha ends up on two wheels and resorts to pedal power, while Margie swaps the 1960s convertible classic car for an 80-year-old fire engine. In a break from shopping, Natasha explores an underground world hidden beneath a suburb of Liverpool and tries to find out why it exists. With antiques in pewter, mahogany, silver and cast iron - and such a closely run contest thus far - which item will win the day and take one of our experts into the lead?
It’s the last leg of the trip for antiques dealer Margie Cooper and auctioneer Natasha Raskin Sharp. It has been a close battle, so can either of them pull ahead as they go searching for antiques in the dales of Derbyshire? Maybe Margie can, as she has bagged the classic car, leaving Natasha puffing up the hills in her wake on a pushbike! They both shop until they drop, buying everything from delicate glassware to hearty rustic pieces, with an animal-shaped cocktail shaker thrown into the mix. Along the way, Margie explores a world of splendour in an historic 550-acre garden, tucked away in a very surprising location. And Natasha discovers a renowned artist whose intricate and breathtaking paintings and drawings illuminated the spirit of the age in which he lived. As the contest comes to an end and our companionable chums reach for the tissues, who will be glorious in victory at the final auction of the trip?
Road Trip favourite Phil Serrell takes on antiques whipper-snapper Tim Medhurst on an adventure on both sides of Hadrian’s Wall, travelling in a fine 1970s convertible. Phil shows his brawn with a couple of shot puts before tackling some hedgerows with a billhook, while Tim fancies himself a winner on the fairway with an Edwardian golfer’s ashtray. Phil gets involved with a small army of soldiers, but Tim is keen on militaria too, and he lands a collectable from the First World War. In Berwick-upon-Tweed, Tim tries to get a hinny to sing, but whose praises will be sung at the auction in Edinburgh?
Phil Serrell and Timothy Medhurst continue their road trip in Scotland behind the wheel of a 1970s convertible. Phil discovers some gastronomic treats in Perthshire, including a fine scone in Scone, the rejuvenating properties of a tea brewed from the leaves of the birch tree, and some tasty tree sap. Tim, meanwhile, turns Jacobite and leads a one-man highland charge at Killiecrankie, where redcoats turned tail in the battle of 1689. And while searching for a fresh batch of antiques, our ‘lad o’ pairts’ shows off his keyboard skills on an antique piano, in a way perhaps not intended by Beethoven. Who will have the biggest bag of groats when their Scottish purchases are sold for pounds sterling in Worcestershire?
Tim Medhurst and Phil Serrell are touring the byways and waterways of the Cotswolds. But while Tim is in the sporty motor, Phil is on the slow boat. Moneybags Tim tries to maintain his lead by investing in some eclectic choices: a brass top hat, a French marriage globe and a travelling font, which may or may not add blessings to his already stuffed pockets. Phil is aiming to strike back at auction with some Chinese rice paintings and an old porthole, thrown in for free. Travelling on foot and by narrowboat, he may look slow, but is he catching up?
Tim comes over all Olympic-cyclist with the lycra, looking more and more at home on his bike. Former PE teacher Phil takes a break from driving the old Triumph to walk through the treetops at the national arboretum - a challenge for a man with vertigo! Making their way through Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, coin expert Tim is excited by a Victorian half crown, while Phil is positively overjoyed when he secures a chair made for the investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1969. Our experts enjoy a little sunshine, and Tim even goes foraging in the fields with a herbalist. At an al fresco breakfast, the bacon rolls are on Phil, but who will have egg on his face at auction?
Phil and Tim are in Wales for their last leg, but there’s no saying who is on their last legs as we reach the end of this epic - they both set out with bags of cash from their previous successes. As the rain sets in, Phil is a sight to behold in his waterproof poncho on the bike, and Tim takes a soaking while putting the roof on the convertible classic car. Just as the weather isn’t playing ball, Phil isn’t playing Welsh handball either, though he does visit the last court of its kind in Wales. Meanwhile, Tim gets a taste of the national dish, Welsh rarebit, and discovers it’s more than just cheese on toast. Phil gets carried away by traditional Welsh country antiques - and then risks a hernia carrying a grandfather clock. Tim splashes out on some fine silver and takes his chances on three very old Chinese plates. Who will be first over the finishing line?
It’s a brand new trip and there’s a brand new expert. The newbie is London-based porcelain dealer Serhat Ahmet, who joins a doyenne of the road trip, Christina Trevanion, for a jaunt around the antiques emporia of Wales and the Midlands. They kick off in north Wales in their rather glamorous Porsche Speedster. It’s all uncharted territory for Serhat as he gets his hands on a conveyance for dollies and one piece of pottery that has Christina a little jealous. But she manages a scoop of her own, picking up a last-minute purchase that might be a lot older and a lot more valuable than it first appears. On their travels, Serhat takes a trip to a particularly famous village that brings a touch of the Italian Riviera to the west coast of Wales, while Christina heads to the Isle of Anglesey to discover how an ancient method of making a commonplace culinary ingredient has made a comeback on the coast. Then it’s off to auction in Bolton to find out if Serhat’s nerves can handle the excitement.
We’re on the road again with antiques aficionados Christina Trevanion and Serhat Ahmet, for a wander round the West Midlands and the Black Country. And there’s a new addition to the Road Trip convoy - a very robust Series One Land Rover. Not as nippy as the Porsche Speedster but better over the bumps. Both experts decide to play to their strengths this time out. Porcelain dealer Serhat gets his paws on a lot of ceramics while Christina goes a bundle on one of her favourites: jewellery. Along the way there are some spooky portraits, the obligatory top hat try-on, not to mention a spot of off-roading. Taking a break from shopping, Christina heads to a very fine garden to discover the fascinating history of how the Tudors kept themselves clean. Serhat takes a canal journey that leads him back to the Industrial Revolution and deep underground to find out about the practice of 'legging'. Then it’s off to the auction for their purchases to see if Serhat can hold on to his lead or if Christina will put the new recruit back in his place.
We’re at the halfway point of our antiques odyssey with experts Serhat Ahmet and Christina Trevanion. They’re travelling north to south down the backbone of England, from Sheffield to Coventry, one by Land Rover and one by Speedster. This time out, our pair decide to push their boundaries. Porcelain dealer Serhat turns his back on his usual pots and goes in search of shinier things. Jewellery aficionado Christina tries to steer clear of sparkly items and almost succeeds. However, she does manage to get her hands on one very large and very brown item. There’s also dangerous furniture, the obligatory antiques shop dog and a spot of ventriloquism. In between the shopping, Christina meets two of the fastest men alive and comes face to face with their incredible high-speed vehicles, while Serhat heads off to discover a designer you have probably never heard of but who single-handedly changed the look of the British street. As all of their goodies head off to auction, there are a few close calls for one of our experts, and something worse for the other.
We’re out in the fresh air once again with country girl Christina Trevanion and city boy Serhat Ahmet. Bristol and Gloucestershire are their stomping grounds this time out, and while the country roads offer no challenges for Christina’s Land Rover, it’s a different story for Serhat’s Porsche. On this leg of the trip there is plenty of foraging, and not just in the shops. Serhat goes gaga for glass and hankers after various bits of Arts and Crafts metalware. Christina gets an offer she can’t refuse as one shopkeeper gives her a very good but very threatening deal. She also causes chaos trying to get her hands on possibly the largest item ever on the Antiques Road Trip. Serhat’s glass obsession continues as he visits the home of the iconic Bristol Blue glassware, where he gets to try his hand at a spot of glass blowing, with mixed results. Meanwhile, Christina heads to the farm to get down and dirty with some of Gloucestershire’s most famous but endangered porcine inhabitants. As the auction draws near, can Christina hold on to her lead, or will Serhat pull it back from the edge?
It’s the last outing for our travelling twosome, Serhat Ahmet and Christina Trevanion, on a whistle-stop tour around south Wales. They battle each other and the elements as 'Storm Christina' hits, so it’s roof-up time in the Porsche and, as Serhat takes to two wheels, time to pop on a poncho. There’s a mad dash around the shops for our two as Serhat tries to eke out his tiny budget, while Christina struggles to blow all of her money. They look at baths, buckets and big sticks to try to turn a profit at the auction. And there’s still time for them to brush up on their circus skills. Serhat follows in the footsteps of two brothers who discovered a whole underground world beneath their farmland, and a trip to a spa doesn’t turn out quite as expected for Christina, as she takes the plunge into a rather weird and wacky sport. And then it’s time for their final battle, to see who will be covered in glory at the auction.
In this adventure around the south coast in a zippy 1976 Alfa Romeo Spider, auctioneer and lover of all things sparkly Izzie Balmer takes on veteran Road Tripper and silver expert Catherine Southon. Catherine is a shopping pro, snapping up everything from a decorative lavatory to an art nouveau pendant, while Izzie starts off slowly but soon becomes the antiques dog whisperer with a bevy of doggie delights. Away from the shops, Izzie demonstrates a knack for Bronze Age DIY, and Catherine faces her fear in Hampshire with the thug of the hedgerows. Who will triumph at the pair’s first auction in Leicestershire?
The antiques adventure continues in Devon with auctioneers Izzie Balmer and Catherine Southon, who rule the road in a racy red 1970s Alfa Romeo Spider. With unbelievable excitement, Izzie embarks on a spending spree that involves 18th-century porcelain and a quirky Georgian marrow scoop. As a lover of all creatures great and small, she also relishes the opportunity to find out about the sporting parson who created the ultimate fox terrier. Meanwhile, Catherine does a thoroughly splendid job of netting an eclectic mix of items that includes some specimen slides and some stylish Scandinavian silver. Catherine also tantalises her taste buds in Devon with a pasty recipe from the 16th century. Both wait with bated breath to discover who will be victorious at the auction in east Devon.
Auctioneers Izzie Balmer and Catherine Southon have made it to the Cornish coast with the aid of a swanky 1970s Alfa Romeo Spider and a not-so-glamorous, good old-fashioned bicycle. Izzie remains true to form and picks up some Scandinavian jewellery before squeezing into a wetsuit and plunging into the history of surfing in Newquay. Catherine continues her quirky buying streak, which this time includes a Bristol Blue glass lamp stand and a set of celestial charts. Looking for tactics for how best to beat Izzie at auction, Catherine also learns about the ancient martial art of Cornish wrestling.
We’re off on a south Devonian adventure with auctioneers Izzie Balmer and Catherine Southon. While Catherine is whizzing around the coastline in a shiny 1970s motor, Izzie tackles hill and dale on two wheels. On this jolly jaunt, Izzie isn’t rolling in riches, but she still manages to notch up a truckload of goodies, including a 1920s flapper dress, a couple of violins and yet another beloved brooch. But it’s an Arts & Crafts tile that really steals her heart. Izzie also hops off her bike to go on a nautical adventure to an island steeped in military heritage. Meanwhile, Catherine finally decides to splash some cash, picking up some delicate little trinket boxes, some weighty railwayana and a walking stick with an appropriate maritime connection. She also makes a diversion to learn more about a ruined fishing village, swept away by ravaging storms.
This south west adventure concludes with a tour of Devon, Somerset and Dorset for auctioneers Izzie Balmer and Catherine Southon. Izzie buys some liqueur glasses, a Victorian chandelier and yet more brooches before settling on a river bank, in a top secret location, on the lookout for a very rare animal. Catherine takes a risk with the purchase of a massive anchor with no provenance, but plays it safe with some Georgian shoe buckles. In amongst all that shopping, there’s still time for Catherine to embark on a detour to meet some pioneering artists. Who will have the lead after today's final auction?
Newbie Irita Marriott brings Latvian flair to the game as she takes on Tim Medhurst in a sporting tour of the antiques emporia of Lincolnshire. One expert has a brush with the law.
Rookie Road Tripper Irita Marriott sets out to win, but wily Tim Medhurst hunts for rare items he knows will pique bidders’ interest. In any case Irita’s in the pink, the ‘Suffolk pink’, and she’s on a mission to discover exactly what the authentic colour of the local charming cottages really is. Meanwhile Tim is in canny mode, forking out but a fiver for one of his purchases. However, he’s also keen as mustard on a fine art nouveau piece that he hopes will boost his chances. In the middle of it all their classic car, the Reliant, proves it can’t live up to its name and after a break down Tim decides to have a little light relief at Irita’s expense. Can Irita win again or will Tim come back with some mild-mannered vengeance? That remains to be seen as they gather at Knebworth House to watch their items go under the hammer.
Tim and Irita continue their tour of Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire, detouring to learn the history of British airships and taking up a unique opportunity for Irita to drive a 120 year old tractor. Irita goes all out to spend money, splashing the cash on some fine silvery jewellery and a parasol of which Mary Poppins herself would be proud. By stark contrast, frugal Tim rummages in the bargain boxes and comes away from one shop having spent but £1 – was it a wisest buy of this trip? While Irita pops her cork for a champagne bottle that turns into a pipe, Tim takes a fancy to an anatomical model. If only he didn’t keep dropping its lungs. Hopefully their motor, a 1970s Reliant Scimitar, can carry them safely to their third auction.
Tim and Irita tour Somerset, acquainting themselves with public houses along the way; Tim to learn West Country skittles and Irita to take tea and unexpectedly find something to buy that’s hanging on the wall! Newbie expert, Irita, detours to the golden age of sailing ships with a visit to a restored Victorian sail and twineworks, and continues her quest to find some fine porcelain in order to make a profit at auction. Tim is taken by some old apothecary bottles, even if he can’t say the word! This time out, they both take a fancy to piggy themed items: Tim, a fine Liberty leather footstool; Irita, a porcine vesta case. Are they hot to trot? All will be revealed when their little piggies go to market. Or, as we call it, the auction.
Irita and Tim hit the road in their sporty Reliant Scimitar for the last leg of their trip. As they tootle around the south coast, Irita feels emboldened, but the clock is ticking, that’s the world’s oldest clock at Salisbury Cathedral. Despite the drama of the impending finale Irita still finds time for a leisurely stroll along Bournemouth beach, to find out about those quintessentially British seaside fixtures: beach huts. In the shops it’s a toss-up to see who can buy the cheapest bit of pewter, Irita’s collection of items being the bigger investment at only a tenner! Irita also fancies a table she knows Tim will hate, while Tim moves into Irita’s territory with the purchase of a fine Chinese vase.
The exciting Road Trip debut of a very familiar face! Antiques dealer Paul Martin finally gets behind the wheel of a classic car, accompanied by seasoned tripper and auctioneer Raj Bisram. Together the pair kick off their treasure hunt in an open-topped motor around the B-roads of Sussex. Paul loves furniture and art, but what can he acquire with a modest £200? Raj’s keen eye for trends in the antiques biz means he’s simply looking for a profit-making bargain. Buying with the heart or head, which will prove successful at the Hampshire auction? Their journey into the South Downs also allows time to investigate a mysterious giant chalk figure, and a welcome walk with the rare Sussex spaniel.
It is the second leg of this jaunt with debutant Paul Martin and his seasoned tripper chum Raj Bisram. Paul is a dealer and certainly knows his way around an antiques shop. Raj, meanwhile, is an auctioneer with a competitive streak and is not giving any dispensation to his new pal, a Road Trip rookie. Our pair are sharing the driving duties as they head west in their open-topped roadster. Today’s treasure tour also includes a stop-off in the New Forest to learn about wartime despatch riders, and to hear about the man who donned diving gear to save Winchester Cathedral from collapse. Clocks, cocktail trays and cap badges are picked up on this tour of Wiltshire and Dorset. Will Raj’s risky three-figure purchase of some rare jelly moulds cause him a wobble at the Didcot auction?
The third outing with Raj Bisram and Paul Martin. Given that it is dealer Paul’s very first Road Trip experience, it is a good thing he has his chum Raj alongside him in the classic roadster. Just how chummy they will be when the auction rolls around remains to be seen. The pair explore the Cotswolds and the Mendips in style. Along the way, they discover the story of the fascinating Yorkshireman who not only discovered oxygen, but also had a big hand in the invention of the gin and tonic. Cheers to that! Raj also makes an unusual detour to paint his face on an egg. In Somerset, Raj makes a purchase with a touching story, a father and son’s war medals. Paul, however, spots a bargain when he picks up an oil painting of a lifeboat. One expert’s buy makes over ten times its purchase price at a thrilling auction in Somerset.
Raj Bisram and Paul Martin’s ‘Way Out West’ tour takes them to deepest Dorset, Devon, Somerset and beyond. Antiques experts and firm friends, our pair share a common goal: to make big profits at the auction in Worcestershire. Along the way, Paul ditches the classic car to investigate the obscure, Somerset-based Victorian inventor of unmanned powered flight, before having a go at a bit of modern model aeronautics himself. For Raj, there is a trip into the city to find out about an historic 1960s struggle against racial discrimination, the Bristol Bus Boycott. Both experts make profitable finds, with a mule based fairground ride and an exquisite English oak candle box, the star lots at auction.
It is the final leg of our journey with veteran tripper Raj Bisram and relative rookie Paul Martin. After an epic tour of the south and south west, their shopping and saleroom extravaganza concludes at a Palladian mansion in the Cotswolds. The open-topped classic car transports our duo to Shakespeare country, Warwickshire, where dealer Paul and auctioneer Raj hope to acquire anything ‘going for a sonnet’. They find out about alpacas and llamas, and discover the historical roots of ballet. The programme also features Incas, tutus and tights.
Antiquers Natasha Raskin Sharp and Steven Moore begin a brand new Road Trip adventure, motoring through North Yorkshire and Tyne and Wear in grand style behind the wheel of a 1960s Rolls Royce. Steven flushes out a bargain while visiting the loo in one antiques shop, finding some 18th-century tea bowls hidden away by the toilet. A break from shopping sees Steven set sail to South Shields and learn about the incredible restoration of a quite remarkable lifeboat. Meanwhile, indecisive Natasha makes a slow start, struggling to make a purchase before embarking on a spending spree and scooping up some fantastic buys including a pair of charming art deco vases. She manages to fit in an excursion to discover some secret tunnels and hear the murky past of those who once lived along the North Yorkshire coast. A humble-looking 17th-century box becomes the star lot of the Newcastle auction.
Auctioneer Natasha Raskin Sharp and ceramics expert Steven Moore are on a whistle-stop tour of Tyne and Wear before wandering north to Northumberland. Natasha wastes little time in the antiques shops, gambling her kitty like an 18th-century taverngoer buying some George III period gaming tokens. She ditches the 1960s Rolls Royce and sets off on a very unlikely safari to catch sight of an ancient creature that still roams the Northumberland plains. Elsewhere, Steven moves at a more leisurely pace and indulges in some dressing up. He delights at a discovery of a 200-year-old sugar dish and buys a 1930s cuddly elephant. Steven even finds time for afternoon tea in an unassuming Alnwick hotel with a dining room that has the spectacular opulence of an Edwardian ocean liner and shares a close connection to RMS Titanic. With the antiques shipped to a Dundee auction, our experts are on tenterhooks as the bids roll in.
Antiques experts Natasha Raskin Sharp and Steven Moore point their 1960s Rolls Royce north and to the Scottish Borders before heading on to Edinburgh for another auction. Natasha wastes little time when shopping, enchanted by a tobacco barrel manufactured by a quality maker. She also decides to buy a travel case, but only after she discovers the velvet-lined secret compartment it hides within. Away from the shops, Natasha visits an area renowned for its luxurious knitwear and the heritage of a once-booming local industry. Meanwhile, Steven may be in Scotland but his discoveries include a rare 18th-century teapot from Liverpool and an Italian glass vase. He also finds time to take in the sights at a site of international importance, where the Roman Empire found home in Scotland.
With a swirl of tartan and a burst of the bagpipes, our Scottish tour continues in Fife with antiques experts Natasha Raskin Sharp and Steven Moore. The 1960s Rolls Royce glides the pair through countryside and town as they head from the east coast to central Scotland. Natasha’s money reserves are dwindling, so she cautiously settles on a bargain piece of Scottish studio pottery. However, a canny buy of an arts and crafts-style lantern pays dividends at the auction in Hamilton. Natasha also finds the time to visit Kirkcaldy and hears the little-known story of how this Scottish town became a Victorian global powerhouse in, of all things, flooring manufacture. Steven receives the red carpet treatment as he steps on board the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith to learn the centuries-old customs of royal yachts. With almost £400 burning a hole in his pocket, Steven seeks out quality antiques, picking up silver teaspoons and spirit flasks. He also finds an intriguing item called a hate belt. Will the bidders love it?
It’s the final installment of Natasha Raskin Sharp and Steven Moore’s Road Trip around Scotland. Natasha splashes out a three-figure sum on a single piece of silver. She also picks up buttons with a suffragist connection and a very charming brass tortoise. Shopping done, a hungry Natasha visits Cupar to find out why haggis has became a global delicacy synonymous with Scotland. To Steven’s great joy, his first shop is a ceramics expert's dream. Amongst the china, he discovers a quite rare porcelain spirit flask. He too goes for broke, spending £140 on a Canton garden seat, though the damage and repairs may discourage bidders. It’s a gamble. Later, Steven detours to Dundee docks to step aboard one of the oldest and best preserved wooden warships in the world. With just a few pounds separating Steven and Natasha, the auction makes for an exciting climax to this trip. Steven flushes out a bargain while visiting the loo in one antiques shop, finding some 18th-century tea bowls hidden away by the toilet. A break from shopping sees Steven set sail to South Shields and learn about the incredible restoration of a quite remarkable lifeboat. She manages to fit in an excursion to discover some secret tunnels and hear the murky past of those who once lived along the North Yorkshire coast. A humble-looking 17th-century box becomes the star lot of the Newcastle auction.
It’s the start of a brand new antiquing adventure in the company of the bubbly Izzie Balmer and not so-bubbly Philip Serrell, taking the south east of England by storm, starting in Kent. Our chalk-and-cheese pair each have a £200 starting budget and a rather nippy sports car to get them to the shops. Once they hit the emporia, Phil finds a novel use for a set of stepladders as he scoops up a few 'old school' antiques, one of which may not be quite what it first seems. Izzie leans toward her favourite small pretty things, but has a last-minute panic when she arrives at one destination to find the shops are shutting. They also indulge in some rocking horse riding, cat whispering and disagreements about scarf wearing. On their travels, Izzie stops off at Tunbridge Wells for a spot of sightseeing and to find out how the town went from being a playground for royalty to one of the earliest examples of suburban living. Meanwhile, Phil heads to the Essex coast to meet the fishermen who are teaming up with scientists to revive the stocks of a very fancy seafood delicacy. Then it’s on to the auction in Battle, East Sussex, to discover if all of their hard work will reap big rewards.
On the road in Essex, it’s the continuing tale of two auctioneers - youthful and exuberant Izzie Balmer and young-at-heart Philip Serrell. They clock up the miles as they pass through five counties in their old motor. They’re best of pals, but occasionally the generation gap does start to show a bit. We go shopping with Izzie, who makes an effort to move away from her favourite tiny, shiny things and tries her luck with some ‘brown furniture’, usually much more Phil’s thing. Mr Serrell has a go at something new, encroaching into Izzie territory with some jewellery. They navigate past some tightly packed shops, security dogs and the occasional zombie. Away from the shops, Izzie pops into Cambridge to discover how a chapel for a group of medieval outcasts was the starting point for one of the largest fairs in the country. Philip heads underground to discover an amazing chamber, just below a busy main road, the origins and purpose of which are a complete mystery. Then it’s time to send their prized purchases off to auction in Hertfordshire to see if they can turn a profit.
It’s a very wild and waterlogged road trip as our pair of antiques experts, Izzie Balmer and Phil Serrell, brave the deluge around Oxford and the Cotswolds. Aside from bad-hair-day problems, they have to hope that their 60s soft-top is up to the challenge. After her foray into 'Serrell country' last time out, Izzie is back in the cabinets, on the hunt for her favourite jewellery. Displaying some rather bizarre browsing behaviour, Phil decides to try his luck with an item that was lost at sea for over 200 years. As well as their trusty Triumph, our pair tries out some alternative modes of transport. Philip catches a train to find out the history of one of Britain’s earliest railway companies and how four schoolboys saved its steam engines from the scrapheap. And it’s puppy power for Izzie as she discovers how man’s best friend has helped people to get about and survive in the Arctic for millennia. But has she got what it takes to be a champion musher? Then it’s time for their purchases to go under the hammer in Harrogate, to see who will win the day.
Our travelling twosome, Philip Serrell and Izzie Balmer, hit the shops of Staffordshire and Shropshire in their penultimate outing. After going a bundle on brooches on the last leg, Izzie makes a vow to steer clear this time out. It doesn’t mean Phil can’t buy one though. It’s gloves off and weapons at the ready as Izzie and Phil share not one but two shopping opportunities. Izzie’s new obsession turns out to be serpentine in nature as she gets her hands on a couple of snake-related items. For Phil, there’s a rather special bit of jewellery from a big-name designer that he has his sights on. There is also a spot of flag waving, some rummaging through other people’s drawers and a passable impression of a milkmaid. Away from the shops, Izzie discovers the fascinating history of invention behind a certain field sport and has a go herself. Philip, meanwhile, comes face to face with one of Britain’s best loved wild animals, and finds out what is being done to save them from extinction. Then their 1960s classic car whisks them off to a castle to watch their items go under the hammer. Can Izzie consolidate her lead, or will Phil come out ahead?
The final battleground for our intrepid auctioneers, Philip Serrell and Izzie Balmer, will be the antiques emporia of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Whilst our pair celebrate their new found friendship, it doesn’t mean that they’ve lost their competitive streak - they’re both in it to win it. And it looks like the third member of the team, their classic car, might be restored to its former glory. Phil, who has to play hunt-the-shopkeeper, has his eye on a few quality antique staples, as well as one hefty horticultural item. Meanwhile, Izzie finds herself in what could well be her perfect shop, containing lots and lots of her favourite sparkly pieces. But she also takes a shine to a particular maritime item that’s decidedly Serrell-esque. And is that the sound of wedding bells in the air? On her travels, Izzie discovers the entire history of mill power, from wind to steam and back again. She also finds out that grinding flour by hand is not as easy as it seems. Philip visits an impressive war memorial, Britain’s newest, and learns the history of the fighting force that flew crucial and extremely dangerous missions from the airfields of Lincolnshire. A magnificent Elizabethan country house provides the backdrop for their final face-off, but will a wise old head prevail over youthful exuberance?
Antiques experts Izzie Balmer and Tim Medhurst set off on a road trip around north Wales. Searching for treasures and relics from a bygone age, they compete to make the most money at auction. Izzie gets in a spin about a mid-century swivel chair, and Tim’s inner child comes alive when he discovers three toy cars. But it’s not all shopping as Izzie learns about the Menai suspension bridge, a wonder of the engineering world, while Tim takes a trip on the world’s oldest narrow-gauge railway. Their trip ends at auction, where their antiques go under the hammer and they find out who has made the most money.
Antiques experts Izzie Balmer and Tim Medhurst continue their road trip around Wales in a classic car. As they search for treasures and relics from days of yore, the impending auction is never far from their thoughts. This is a competition after all! Izzie combines her passion for fashion and antiques with a traditional Welsh lady's outfit, while Tim roars with delight when he discovers a lion-shaped pincushion. Taking a break from the shopping, Izzie learns about an ancient Welsh instrument, the Crwth, and Tim goes underground into an abandoned mine to discover how people lived and worked in the 18th century. As always, their trip culminates at an auction, where their antiques go under the gavel and they find out who has come out in front.
Antiques experts Izzie Balmer and Tim Medhurst set off on a road trip around north Wales. Searching for treasures and relics from a bygone age, they compete to make the most money at auction. Antiques experts Izzie Balmer and Tim Medhurst continue their road trip around Wales in a classic car. As always, the search goes on for antiques that will turn a tidy profit at auction. Izzie finds an ornament made by a soldier in the trenches during World War I, while sweet-toothed Tim gets all excited when he discovers some 100-year-old chocolate. On this leg of the trip, Izzie takes a detour to learn about Aneurin Bevan, the politician who devised and created the NHS, whilst Tim takes a trip to Parc Penallta. Built on the site of a former coal colliery, this country park houses one of the world's largest sculptures. Shopping done, it's off to the auction to see our duo's purchases go under the gavel. Who will find themselves in the lead at this crucial halfway point?
Experts Izzie Balmer and Tim Medhurst are cruising around Wales in a classic car, searching for antiques to sell at auction. It's a competition, mind you, so profits are the name of the game. Izzie finds a selection of maps from the days before cars ruled the roads, and Tim gets all excited when he discovers a William Gladstone commemorative medal. With the shopping done, there's time for our experts to learn more about local history as Izzie finds out about a shameful event that took place in Cardiff, while Tim takes a trip to Carmarthen to learn about the poet and scholar who helped save the Welsh language from extinction. All roads point to auction for our duo. Who will reign victorious at the penultimate sale?
The time has come for Izzie Balmer and Tim Medhurst to conclude their epic road trip around Wales in a classic car. With only one auction to go, time is running out for our dynamic duo to scour the country's antiques shops for items that will sell for a profit when they go under the gavel. While Tim goes on a veritable spending spree that includes an arts and crafts letter box, Izzie hopes that two Chinese vases bearing the symbol for good fortune will prove to be an auspicious purchase. As always, our experts find the time to step away from the antiques shops to delve into some local culture. Izzie tries some laver bread, a Welsh culinary delight made from seaweed foraged from one of the country’s most stunning beaches, and Tim goes all Poldark as he gets to grips with a scythe to discover traditional farming methods still being used today. Then it's down to brass tacks: the final auction. Who will be crowned the winner of this road trip? There’s a big surprise in store for one expert!
Veritable veteran James Braxton takes on relative newbie Irita Marriott as they cruise through Kent in a classic car in search of profitable antiques. James spots a 19th century child’s rattle which sparks international interest, while Irita pins her hopes on a damaged Daum Nancy glass lamp. James finds the time to visit an underground network of caves in Chislehurst, which once sheltered 15,000 people during the Blitz and Irita dusts off her dancing shoes for a belly dancing lesson in Maidstone. Then it's off to the first auction, an epic showdown on the Romney Marsh in their trusty steed, a 1960s Volvo. Who’ll come out on top?
It’s the second leg of Irita Marriott and James Braxton’s jaunt along England’s south coast. They’re travelling in style, driving a classic 1960s Volvo, as they scour antique shops in Kent and East Sussex. On their way to an auction showdown in Kent, James visits an experimental wartime listening post in Greatstone and Irita learns about a pioneering lighthouse at Beachy Head. James has a wedge of cash to spend and is looking for high-value items as he tries to maintain his lead but Irita is snapping at his heels with some canny purchases. Can she close the gap at auction?
James Braxton and Irita Marriott are on the third leg of their grand tour of England’s south coast. They’re searching for antiques in East Sussex and Hampshire in their classic car from the 60s. A novelty beer bottle and a fish kettle whet James’s appetite for a profit while Irita hopes a 19th-century puzzle box will solve her woes at auction. On the way James gets up close and personal with some octogenarian sea turtles in Brighton. Irita makes a stop of her own at the historic Portsmouth Docks to learn about a Victorian philanthropist who dedicated her life to helping the sailors of the Royal Navy. Together they head to Dorset for an auction face-off, with Irita gambling all her funds in an effort to catch up to James’ commanding lead.
Embarking on the fourth leg of their road trip, James Braxton and Irita Marriott rummage through antiques shops across Wiltshire and Dorset. While James has enjoyed success at auction with his items, is this the outing where Irita can also do the same? James goes on a journey back to the land before time where he meets a famous fossil hunter. Irita takes a break from shopping to visit the site of the once-great Shaftesbury Abbey. Both our experts buy their favourites on this outing, with James championing brass and Irita backing porcelain but who will come up trumps at the penultimate auction?
Irita Marriott and James Braxton cruise Britain’s back roads in a 1960s motor as they search for profitable antiques to sell at auction. Irita gives James a run for his money as the duo head into the final leg of their trip. James takes a detour to learn about the brave Polish night fighter pilots who defended Exeter from the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War. Meanwhile, Irita goes behind the scenes of a beloved local cinema as it’s brought back to life. James is excited by his discovery of a snuff box with a connection to the abolitionist movement but will it be enough to secure a victory? It all goes down to the wire at the final auction.
Seasoned antiquer and auctioneer Charles Hanson accompanies Ochuko Ojiri on his Road Trip debut. A dealer, gallery owner and vintage enthusiast from London, Ochuko loves 20th century art, but what will he be able to acquire with a modest starting sum of £200? This treasure-hunting tour kicks off in Yorkshire, with our experts behind the wheel of a 1970s open-topped Triumph Spitfire. Their joint aim is to buy antiques that will make a profit when sold at auction - no mean feat! Charles finds an item that promises to bring joy to the home, while Ochuko plumps for a sleepy Japanese poodle. There is still time, however, for our experts to visit Hull, where they walk in the footsteps of a rugby league trailblazer and learn how a trawler disaster inspired a group of activists who would go on to become known as the Headscarf Heroes.
Dealer Ochuko Ojiri and auctioneer Charles Hanson root around antiques shops, searching for items to sell at auction. In their bold, blue 1970s classic car, our duo have reached the Pennines. Charles makes a very small purchase - a seashell for just a few pence - but notices it harbours a nautical secret. Will it reward him at auction? Meanwhile, Ochuko goes back in time to his youth and picks up some toys he hopes will inspire bidders wanting to relive their childhoods. While there's some serious shopping to do, there's also time to dive into some local history along the way. There's an encounter with a unique piece of British railway history and a chance to find out all about one of the country's oldest and rarest sheep breeds. Prepare yourselves - there are little lambs! Our experts each began their journey with £200, and it’s already shaping up to be quite some contest. But how much will they gain (or possibly lose) over the course of several hundred miles? Today we reach sale room number two.
We’re approaching the halfway point of our jaunt with Road Trip regular Charles Hanson and first-time tripper Ochuko Ojiri. And what a journey it has been so far! Both are heading for the great city of Liverpool in their rather eye-catching classic car. There are plenty of antiques to catch their eyes when they hit the shops, and plenty of local history to learn about too. Our experts grab the chance to find out about a unique and very old city centre institution, and they head across the Mersey to experience Liverpool’s canal connection to Britain’s industrial past. Charles is drawn to the Far East and tempted by several Chinese carvings, pots and pieces of porcelain. Ochuko's focus is closer to home when a very large enamel sign adverting cakes whets his appetite for a profit. Then it's time for auction number three. It's clear that our experts are forging a lasting friendship, but they're both in it to win it, make no mistake!
It’s the fourth leg of the trip for antiques experts (and strictly amateur in-car disco dancers) Ochuko Ojiri and Charles Hanson. Their classic car is pointed south, towards the Midlands. Charles may well be the favourite, with a string of Road Trip victories under his belt, but newbie Ochuko is proving to be a worthy challenger. In Stafford, a clown with a red ruffled collar catches Ochuko’s eye. Charles’s weak spot for anything with rococo detail means he spends most of his budget on a 220-year-old unusual find. While buying antiques to sell at auction is the aim of the game, our experts make time to further their knowledge. One learns about a forgotten Second World War bomber rediscovered in Russia, while the other encounters several monkeys in a garden in Stoke-on-Trent. As Charles and Ochuko cruise around the gorgeous summer countryside, there's only one thing on their minds: the penultimate auction.
It’s the final, thrilling episode of our week-long road trip with Charles Hanson and Ochuko Ojiri. While cruising around the Midlands, our experts see the site of an historic Black Country industrial dispute and try to distinguish ‘bare’ Coventrian fact from fiction. Charles gets excited when he spies some French opera glasses at a great price, and an oil painting catches Ochuko’s eye – but will it attract big bids? At auction, will it be Road Trip regular Charles or daring debutant Ochuko who reigns victorious? Competition aside, it's safe to say that this budding bromance is now in full bloom!
An all-new adventure sees antiques experts Catherine Southon and Serhat Ahmet heading out on an east-of-England odyssey, on the hunt for the old, the unusual and the precious. They kick off in Kent with £200 and a rather special motor, a Morris Minor Million, built to commemorate the millionth model to roll off the production line. Catherine comes across a rather useful spare appendage when shopping. She also throws the cash around on a few of her items, but may regret it when her pockets feel a little light. Serhat does a lot of searching to sort the reproductions from the genuine articles, but he comes across one item he thinks could sell big. There’s also the occasional scare as our shoppers delve into the darkest recesses to look for bargains. On their travels, Catherine detours to the capital to discover how London’s smelliest year led to an amazing piece of infrastructure and made big improvements in the population’s health. Serhat heads out into the Thames Estuary to get up close to a relic of World War II that may still contain a nasty surprise.
It’s the second outing for antiques experts Serhat Ahmet and Catherine Southon, heading in an easterly direction in their lovely lilac Morris Minor Million. This time they are scouring the countryside of the East Midlands for old objects of desire, although city slicker Serhat is a bit overwhelmed by the rural setting and finds it a challenge to identify the local fauna. On the back foot after the last auction, Catherine puts in a call to complain. She gets swept up in the romance of an item containing a wartime love story and buys some items that no self-respecting lord lady of the manor should be without. Serhat, after being snubbed by one antiques shop inhabitant, amasses a diverse collection of items, but still manages to slip in some of his beloved porcelain. On their travels, Catherine visits a local church that broadcast to the nation during the dark days of the Second World War, and Serhat goes in search of thrills as he meets the head of a daredevil dynasty that can do things on two wheels that defy gravity. Then it’s all the fun of the fair as our pair head to Clacton Pier for a spot of auction watching and a go on the amusements. Will it be a rollercoaster or just swings and roundabouts?
It’s a scoot up the East Anglian coast for antiques experts Serhat Ahmet and Catherine Southon, taking in Suffolk and Norfolk in their lilac Morris Minor Million. Their quest for antique goodies hits a stumbling block when they run into a spot of car trouble, possibly caused by Serhat’s overenthusiastic headbanging. With both experts slightly on their uppers after the last auction, our purchasing pair play to their strengths. Serhat heads straight for the ceramics, picking up a few rare items, some of which have definitely seen better days. Catherine makes a beeline for her favourite tiny treasures but gets to grips with a couple of hefty items on the way. Taking a break from the shopping, Serhat meets the great-nephew of a remarkable woman who broke the social norms of her day to go and fight on the front line. Catherine, meanwhile, gets to sample a local delicacy that sounds rather unappealing but has sustained the local population for centuries. Then it’s off to a picturesque spot by a windmill to watch their items go under the hammer at auction. But will they make any bread?
It’s the penultimate run-out for our peripatetic antiques purchasers, Catherine Southon and Serhat Ahmet, who find themselves hitting the shops from Norfolk to Northamptonshire. Their fabulous lilac Morris has had a polish and is running smoothly, which is more than can be said for their competition after the last auction. They both need to get some cracking deals if they are to get back on track. Serhat is on the hunt once again for ceramics, while Catherine has her eye on a more eclectic mix of items. On the way, Serhat makes some new four-legged friends, and Catherine tries to find out what you can buy for under a pound. Out and about, Serhat finds out about a refugee who fled his war-torn country and became a local legend in his adopted hometown thanks to his crazy stunts and feats of strength. Catherine gets a taste of a high-speed motorsport and goes for a ride from which she might never recover. A spot of stately splendour is their backdrop for the auction, where they find out if their items are sufficiently upper crust.
It’s the end of our east-of-England expedition with antiques experts Catherine Southon and Serhat Ahmet, who are heading out on the bumpy backroads of Lincolnshire. With the results of the previous auction having swelled both their wallets, our two shoppers are in a chipper mood as they head off in their lilac Morris Minor Million towards Derbyshire and their last chance to buy. Keen to make good use of his new-found wealth, Serhat heads straight for the pricier items with desirable brand names attached, while Catherine has an eye out for the unusual, the quirky and, in one case, the downright creepy. To mark their last trip together and their new-found friendship, they both try their hand at each other’s areas of expertise. It’s not just all about the shopping, though. On their travels, Catherine discovers the history of the most iconic of classical instruments at a school that teaches students how to make them. Meanwhile, Serhat scales the heights (and depths) to hear the story of how a group of enterprising 18th-century miners helped turn a peak in Derbyshire into one of the country’s earliest tourist attractions. Then it’s off to the home of the British Grand Prix to watch their final auction. Is Catherine on the home straight or can Serhat overtake right at the end to take the chequered flag?
Dealers Margie Cooper and Paul Martin travel through Somerset and Wiltshire on their first road trip together. Margie is a veteran road tripper, but this is only Paul’s second outing, so there’s much at stake as they compete to find profitable items to sell at auction. What will entice them to spend their £200 budget? In a strawberry red Jaguar, they are both on top form, uncovering an eclectic mix of items, from Edwardian furniture to East African tribal art. Along the way, Margie learns about the first safari park outside Africa, and Paul discovers one town’s historic link with safety on our railways. But who will come out on top at the end of the day when their lots go under the hammer?
Margie Cooper and Paul Martin set out on the second leg of their trip with their classic car pointed to Somerset. Paul falls in love with a juggling clown called Clever Willie and pulls some strings to get a discount on some other antiques. Margie’s attempt of finding quality collectables goes down the pan when she settles on a toilet bowl dating from 1860. It’s not all about shopping, though. Margie detours to discover a fascinating hidden story in the most unlikely of locations, and Paul hears how a famous shanty man helped to preserve traditional songs for future generations to enjoy.
Dealers Paul Martin and Margie Cooper are heading in a westerly direction in their elegant red Jaguar, and this time they are scouring the countryside of Devon for all manner of antiques. Two auctions down and one expert is confident in their unassailable lead, though their rival has a strategy they believe will prove victorious. Paul gets swept up in the romance of the east with a hanging lightshade and buys an item that no self-respecting pirate should be without. Margie’s magpie eyes focus in on something she is certain will make a profit at auction. Margie takes time out from shopping to try her hand at crafting some local pottery, with hilarious results. Meanwhile, Paul visits a local fishing village transformed by a very forward-thinking woman. As Margie and Paul cruise through the Cornish countryside, only one thing is on their mind – the third auction of this trip. Will one expert’s lead be in question?
It’s the fourth leg of a wild west adventure featuring antiques experts Margie Cooper and Paul Martin. Margie’s new strategy is to play it safe with traditional antiques, and she falls for a 1930s child’s chair and a 19th-century milking stool. Paul, however, takes a chance on a 1920s car horn that’s in good working order – and very loud. Both experts buy mirrors, but could this prove a costly mistake for one? In a break from shopping, Paul learns about the formation of the light infantry and the brave actions of one soldier turned pacifist, while Margie tries a tea grown entirely in Britain. How refreshing!
Margie Cooper and Paul Martin head for Plymouth on the final leg of their journey. The competition has tightened, and only a few pounds separate the rivals. Along the way, Margie hears the story of a footballer, once forgotten but finally being given the recognition he deserves. And Paul is all at sea discovering the tale of a lighthouse, built in the 18th century, that became a beacon of engineering prowess. On this final outing, it's the shopping that takes centre stage. Silver expert Margie finds some lovely art nouveau pieces, while a sergeant major’s swagger stick gets Paul’s ‘atten-shun’! A humdinger of an auction unfolds as this exciting trip comes to a climax.
