Rich is excited that Taskmaster is about to start, look he’s even wearing his “costume” but more excited that he has a very exciting exclusive interview with a notable personage. You’ll never guess who. Ally is slightly out of joint, but this is a show with everything, including a puppet show from a Victorian ghost, a rejuvenated carrot and a hyperventilating donkey. Ally is worried about Prince Andrew moving in on his territory (but can’t predict how far he might take that) and tries to take control of the show. The ghost child is back with a character that is (to be frank) as good as anything else in this weird experience. There’s love, there’s singing, there’s beer and there’s efficient and sexy politicians who don’t seem to be evil. Richard and Ally keep getting their roles confused and everyone has to bail so we can watch Taskmaster. But all your favourites make an appearance and it’s not all embarrassing and awful. Richard hates to talk about all the amazing work he does for charity, so let me do it for him.
Richard is doing an awful lot of work for charity, but he hates to talk about it, but his attempts to be serious are sabotaged as usual. There’s racism, there’s a discussion about Christmas numbers, Ally tries to alienate Herring’s family and fans and a couple of characters have had a makeover. Law Fox makes a punt to be PM and Prince Andrew doesn’t realised he’s being filmed, which is a bit dangerous. And it all ends on a song which may bring a tear to your eye. Oh and Cocky Carrot is in it.
The US is in turmoil and second lockdown has begun, but the real problem is Rich’s equipment fucking up and general lack of preparation ending in calamity. But along the way Rich manages to offend Brian Wasp again, whilst literally laughing in his face, Cocky Carrot has to consider the nature of his soul (as well as react to ever innuendo) and the greatest love story of all time Sally and Prince Andrew hits a rocky patch. For a moment Rich forgets that the characters can’t talk on their own. Also off the top of your head can you think of funny people to get married if they are going to hyphenate their surnames (cos Rich can’t), who is the funny man and who is the straight man. There’s a surprise genii behind the magic button and whatever you think of the rest of it, it’s worth hanging around for the closing credits. What does a programme associate do again?
We get an exciting glimpse behind the scenes tonight as the team go into depth about Ian Pfizer, Trump’s coup, the sacking of Superman and people who marry serial killers. There’s a new character who is definitely not recycled and a new old character too. Cocky Carrot can’t do his job, but has to carry on considering what or who he is and Donkey has the shock of his life. If he had ears, they would fall off. Rich is excited to have reached this landmark twentieth episode and to have been moved to a prime time 7.30pm on Friday slot on Twitch TV. It’s the time the other Twitchers would kill for. He has an anniversary question for the Queen and Prince Philip (and any of their children who might turn up) and he’s trying out a couple more characters (but will be they be as solid as Conspiracy Theo?). Ally and Rich discuss dummies in the real world, the alternative definitions of faggots and the Pope’s Instagram. And some of the regular characters return, whilst there isn’t time for others and it’s already the longest show yet.. oh God.
The stability of the show has been rocked by a breakaway new star. How will this impact on the others and which characters are heading for the bin? There’s a new judicial system proposed by Richard and someone has become a grandad. And there’s some medical advise backed by a doctor about the danger of keeping farts in. Ian Twitch’s 30 episode commission is up, so Rich is fighting for his life here. Will he be back for series 2? And when? He manages to cram in pretty much every puppet into this swansong, whilst very much treating it like the end of term treat it is. The future hangs heavy over those who wear the crown or wield the puppet of someone holding a crown and there’s echoes of the darkness that will filter through the next, more gritty series. But for now, there’s some four way ventriloquism, some fox time travel, Brian Blessed, Terry the producer, puppets fighting for their inclusion in future shows and more questioning of whether just calling yourself something actually makes you something. Thanks for all the support over the last however many months 30 weeks is. We’ll meet again.
Rich is back in the saddle, but it might have to be side saddle for a little while, as he’s still recuperating from a procedure which has removed a body part, but maybe given him a greater gift in return. Even though they’re both still attached, he’s finding his feet and trying to remember what this show is. But he’s buoyed by it now being award winning. Most of the usual gang return to discuss Britishness, trapped container ships, Gazza’s magic tree, Fossible Fub Fassforts and an eventful month for the royal family. Rich is left asking if this is the best way to process what he’s been through, but he’s genuinely grateful for your support this year and your kind (and less kind) messaged over the last month. The best news is that a second series has been commissioned. So big thanks to Ian Twitch for that. And you won’t ever know the great work he does behind the scenes to keep this thing on the rails, but great work Terry the producer.

Richard and Ally are both questioning the nature of existence and what drugs are required to create art, whether it’s better to have a sex robot of a deceased partner or a sex robot of someone else. Law Fox has a supporter for his Mayoral campaign, Prince Andrew is attempting to rescue his reputation by helping out some quite specific needy people and Richard is keen to point out why not flushing the loo is the perfect punishment for your captors. Plus a take down of the film They Live that’s only taken 42 years to concoct and a battle betwixt the French and English birthday donkeys.
Richard feels as if the Gods are against him, first he had cancer, then his beloved Prince Philip died and now someone has got angry about his cairns and desecrated and scattered the stones back on to the field. He didn’t think anything could be worse than cancer, but he was wrong. Can the puppets cheer him up and push him on? Or will the Gods find a way to ruin this too? Richard and Prince Andrew discuss appropriate clothing, Rich and Ally talk about pubs being open and the godhead of Caesar, Right Bollock compares himself to Meghan Markle and the King of the World looks carefully through the funeral guest list to see if he’s on it and Ally reveals that he could say the letter b all along. Cocky Carrot interrupts and Tery threatens to walk.
Rich is celebrating Earth Day, though he’s somewhat downbeat, but could this be the big comeback for Brian Wasp? Or some of the other more minor characters? Ally and Rich discuss football and interspecies sex and the morality of repairing antique puppets, plus perform a haunting duet. Law Fox has some stiff competition for Mayor of London and there are some very special birthdays for three viewers who have all had sex (which is a first for that slot). The title of this show comes from Rich’s mum three word review of the show.
Rich is annoyed that he hasn’t won a BAFTA but he has a great joke about a giant coin that will surely seal his award for next year. He and Ally test their memory, discuss Blair’s hair, but get distracted by the last 129 years of children’s television. The disembodied testicle is being haunted by a disgraced TV personality and Prince Andrew seems to be annoyed that no one else’s mistakes are being homed in on. Sally is called on to talk about parking and there’s some big wasp news. And the oddball ends with a space oddity.
There has been a shake up at the channel and things are a bit different this week, which does not make Rich happy. But the Duke of York is on hand to go and fight in Johnson’s Lazy Falklands and Right Bollock is doing Mary Beard (did somebody say doing Mary Beard?) and the King of the World still has a head. Sally accuses Richard of sexism and Law Fox has whipped himself into a fury about an offhand comment made by two women in America. Have you seen a Gwendoline Fly? Rich is pretty tired after nearly a year of doing this rubbish and drives to drive the whole thing into the ground. But the puppets never get tired. Today they discuss World Bee Day, what liquid you’d like to drink through which bone of which monarch, old Friends getting back together and Derek Griffiths. It’s not the best one, but the bad ones are the best ones. So it can’t be a bad one either.
A couple of weeks off and Rich has come back rebelling against his producer (you won’t know who that is, but a good producer always remains anonymous) and with some new characters. Cos what this show needs is new characters. Will any of the old crew get a look in? The team look at whether white straight able-bodied comedians are being prejudiced against, whether an old woman should be called Lilibet and the mild danger posed by hornets. Plus Rich is running a half marathon but doesn’t like to talk about it.
Richard is taking on GB News (but then wasn’t he always), but thinking it might be time to take a break for a bit, so he can concentrate on his actual proper work. So he goes mainly old school and talks with his friend (?) Ally about whether classic comedies would be made today, the lack of self-awareness of seemingly every celebrity, why Lee Hurst is interested in more important things than an individual life and why footballers won’t say bad drinks are good for money. Plus an update on the Netherlands/Austria match and an incredible series cliffhanger. And Marvin the Monkey is back with a song about stairs.

This very special Twitch of Fun is recorded over two nights as the first one went a bit wrong, but it was worth the 24 hour wait to see the gold that the puppets would come up with. It’s a very weary Twitch of Fun tonight, that nearly didn’t happen, but Richard couldn’t bear to think of all those excited grown adults celebrating their birthdays not getting their donkey kicks. It’s Christmas so this week is much more impromptu than the usual tightly scripted episodes. There’s songs, laughter, rapprochement and an old man lamenting his failing sperm production. Everything you want from Christmas. Plus a proper joke, some Coldplay anecdotes and a discussion about whether aliens are religious. And a beautiful duet to end on and Rich ending up with a sore throat even though he did practically nothing in the show.
Richard tries to go it alone with his novel solution to the Covid crisis and Ally gives him some advice about not bringing his personal problems into the show.
