特集の続編を制作することを禁じられた恵那（長澤まさみ）は、制作中止の理由も問わぬまま、上層部の決定を静かに受け入れる。だが、世間の反響が大きく視聴率も良かっただけに、拓朗（眞栄田郷敦）はどうしても納得できない。 行き場のない正義感をまとった拓朗は、単独で、事件の目撃証言をした西澤（世志男）の身辺を調べ始める。すると、西澤がかつて、事件のあった八頭尾山のふもとの町に住んでいたことが判明。さらに現地で聞き込みを続けると、西澤の新たな顔が浮かび上がってくる。 一方の恵那は、元恋人の斎藤（鈴木亮平）と再び良好な関係を築き始めていた。その矢先、同期で報道部の滝川雄大（三浦貴大）から、斎藤が警察に多大な影響力を持つ、とある大物政治家と親密な関係であることを聞かされて…。
핫토비산 사건 특집은 정식으로 제작이 중지된다. 자신이 일을 망쳤다는 생각에 자살을 기도한 체리. 죄책감을 느끼는 건 에나도 타쿠로도 마찬가지다. 하지만 이 사건에서 손을 뗀 에나와 달리 타쿠로는 단독으로 취재에 임한다. 체포에 결정적인 역할을 한 목격자를 계속 쫓기로 한 것. 쉬지 않고 발로 뛰던 타쿠로는 목격자의 아들에게 가까워진다.
Ena (Nagasawa Masami), who has been banned from producing a sequel to the special, quietly accepts the decision of upper management without asking why the production was cancelled. However, Takuro (Maeda Go Atsushi) is unable to accept the decision because of the strong public response and the good ratings. With a sense of justice that has nowhere else to go, Takuro begins to investigate the background of Nishizawa (Seishio), who has given eyewitness testimony to the incident, on his own. It turns out that Nishizawa used to live in the town at the foot of Mount Hachioji, where the incident took place. Further interviews in the area reveal a new face of Nishizawa. Meanwhile, Ena has begun to build a good relationship with her former lover Saito (Suzuki Ryohei) again. Just then, her colleague Yudai Takigawa (Takahiro Miura), who works in the news department, tells her that Saito has a close relationship with a big-name politician who has a lot of influence over the police...
