The Hundred and One Dalmatians, or The Great Dog Robbery is a 1956 children's novel by Dodie Smith. The story is about Cruella de Vil and her plans to skin 101 Dalmatian puppies to make a fur coat. The puppies are rescued by other animals. Disney released an animated movie in 1961 based on the book as One Hundred and One Dalmatians. The book has been published as 101 Dalmatians. Smith wrote a sequel to the book called The Starlight Barking.
