A few years have passed since Z-ONE's defeat. The Public Safety Maintenance Bureau has dissolved into a city hall, with Lazar becoming the city's mayor. Yusei has become a scientist who supervises the completion of a new Ener-D mainframe, titled Fortune, to ensure the safety of the city. Crow had become a highway patroller getting an invitation to an overseas leagues, Akiza plans to study abroad to become a doctor, and Leo and Luna receive a mail from their parents asking them to leave New Domino City to live with them, leading everyone to wonder about the future of Team 5D's. Jack arrives after training with (defeating) several other duelists, wanting to leave New Domino City for a World League, in order to fulfill his dreams of becoming the World Duelist King, and Yusei challenges him to a duel, to decided the Signers' futures. Yusei and Jack bring out Stardust Dragon and Red Dragon Archfiend respectively, which Yusei sends 3 turns into the future with a trap card, which drives the meaning behind the duel.
Suite à la défaite de Z-one, le Bureau de la Sécurité Publique est dissout dans un hôtel de ville, et Lazar devient le maire de la ville. Yusei est devenu un scientifique qui supervise la réalisation du nouveau processeur central de Ener-D, appelé Fortune, pour assurer la sécurité de la ville. Crow est devenu un patrouilleur routier et reçoit des invitations de ligues étrangères, Akiza compte étudier à l'étranger pour devenir docteur et Lua et Luca reçoivent un mail de leurs parents leur demandant de quitter New Domino City pour vivre avec eux, amenant chacun à s'interroger sur le futur de l'Équipe 5D's. Jack arrive après s'être entrainé avec plusieurs autres duellistes, et souhaite quitter New Domino City pour une ligue mondiale. Yusei le défie alors dans un duel dont le but est de se décider sur leur propre futur. Yusei et Jack invoquent alors respectivement le Dragon Poussière d'Étoile et le Dragon Rouge Archdémon, que Yusei envoie plusieurs tours dans le futur.
