To defeat Yoshinaka, Yoshitsune heads for Kyoto leading Genji’s army. Supported by distinguished performance of his retainers, Yoshitsune beats Yoshinaka’s army at Uji River. After the battle, Yoshitsune enters Kyoto and succeeds in saving the ex-emperor Goshirakawa. Driven from the capital, Yoshinaka tries to get away but finally falls in battle. Appointed as the guard of the Imperial Palace by the ex-emperor, Yoshitsune settles into Kyoto and spends days in peace for a while. One day, Yukiie visits Yoshitsune. Hearing him speak ill of Yoshinaka, Yoshitsune gets angry about Yukiie’s embarrassing attitude. At the same time, Yoshitsune is irritated with himself for engaging in such disputes among his relatives. The next day, Yoshitsune meets his mother Tokiwa after a long time. Although she is glad to see Yoshitsune again, Tokiwa tells Yoshitsune not to come to see her any more.
