The court officials accused Cheng Shi of colluding with the enemy and betraying the country. Emperor Wen issued a decree granting special amnesty to Shaoshang, as she was soon to be married, but ordered the rest of the Cheng family to be taken to prison. Shaoshang rushed back to the Cheng residence and, seeing her family about to be taken away, declared that if they were to go to prison, she would go with them so they could face it together as a family.
