Tarmo üritab pärast kolme armukelmuse tõttu vanglas veedetud aastat oma elus uut lehekülge pöörata ning asub tööle kasutatud autode müüjana. Tema vaga ja avara hingega ülemus Peeter võtab enda kohuseks õpetada Tarmole, kuidas käia mööda seda “sirget ja kitsast teed”. Kui Tarmo kohtub ühel päeval Mariliisiga, kes tema plekilisele minevikule viltu ei vaata, paistab ka mehele endale, et see võib tõesti võimalik olla.
