In episode four we meet father-of-two, John Walsh on the morning of a very important operation to remove extremely rare tumors from his spine. Forty people around the world have been diagnosed with the type of tumors that John has, and of them, John is the only remaining survivor. Consultant David O’Brien tells John that it is a dangerous procedure, but if they don’t take action John will be paralysed from the waist down. Meanwhile in Tallaght Hospital, Polish native Marcin is rushed in after an accident has left him with very deep cuts to his face. Marcin has a bad break to his elbow which will require surgery but it is the deep lacerations on his face that are causing doctors concern. They must urgently get a CT scan of his brain to ensure there has been no serious damage. After a visit to her GP for dizziness, amateur photographer Iris Fogarty arrives in Beaumont Hospital to find out that she has an aneurysm. Doctors describe her as a ‘ticking timebomb’ – she must have urgent surgery to have the aneurysm clipped, as it could burst at any moment, having fatal consequences. In the Mater Brazilian native Lidiane Luna is rushed in after badly breaking her leg after falling down the stairs at home. Doctors work to put a cast on her leg prior to surgery to fix the break in the bone. Construction worker Vasile Purcaru is rushed to St Vincent’s Emergency Department after falling down a manhole while on a site. He is in a lot of pain as the medical team rush around him to get it under control. It is clear that his right leg is badly broken.
