This is the first incarnation of "The Tonight Show" on NBC. It all started in 1953, when Steve Allen started hosting "The Steve Allen Show", a talk/variety show that was broadcast locally in New York by WNBT-TV. By Fall of 1954 NBC, the parent company of WNBT-TV, decided to incorporate Steve Allen's show into their new lineup and broadcast it nationally under the name "Tonight Starring Steve Allen".
