This episode relates the tale of an intern who thought he saved a boy's life after an auto crash and later was sued by the father for aggravating the lad's injuries. Being overworked and underpaid, the intern Dr. Vince Sabowski went to the young lawyers of the "Neighborhood Law Office" in Boston. The NLO is made up of student lawyers who, under supervision, are allowed to practice law as on-the-job training. There Sabowski met the veteran Dave Barrett, attorney and adviser to the young legals. Aaron Silverman, who is really the central figure in the series, is idealistic and enterprising, with a sound legal mind—although his emotions tend to get the best of him. Hence, the need for Barrett. When the intern revealed his problem, Silverman thought the solution was simple: How can it be malpractice when the young medic was trying to save a life?
An unmarried couple, commune residents Stuart Kelsey and Louise Grafton (Peter Strauss, Joan Delaney), appeal to the Neighborhood Law Office for help when faced with losing their 4-year-old son.
Aaron Silverman becomes involved in a brawl when he tries to prevent a landlord (Philip Kenneally) from evicting tenants, and is charged with assault.
