The new manager at the Golden Hill youth club is thrown in at the deep end when a group of tearaways, the Anvil gang, cause a major disturbance.
Billy has been thrown out of the gang because of the way he stuck up for Sarah during the youth club trouble. Not that he is too bothered, he is more concerned with the treatment being dished out to his grandfather Old Tom.
Billy speaks to Des and Sarah at the youth club and they persuade him to go to the police. Their response doesn’t fill Billy with the greatest of confidence. Meanwhile Allen’s henchman Franks pays The Anvil gang to step up the campaign to get Old Tom out of his house.
Allen has stepped up his campaign against Old Tom, having arranged for the Anvil gang to smash up the old feller’s house. When Bill sees a calling card left behind by the gang he knows they were responsible. He confronts Jacky and makes him tell him who put them up to it
Sarah’s dad wants to make one last ditch effort to talk Billy into persuading his granddad to give up his home. But Billy and Old Tom are determined to stay strong. Meanwhile Franks wants the Anvil gang to put even more pressure on the old man. Kenny is not so sure he wants to be involved anymore. He seeks out Billy at the youth club (who is not there) but Sarah and Des persuade him to help with a plan they are working on.
Des, knowing that Allen is about to ramp up his campaign to get Old Tom out of his house, has come up with an idea. He wants to have a surprise waiting in store for the vandals when they turn up.
A few months have clearly gone by. Old Tom has moved out and Billy is finding it hard to motivate himself. Having had his plans for the redevelopment spoilt by Billy and Old Tom, Allen has moved on, although his son Peter has arrived home from university.
Jacky is putting the hard word on Suliman who, at least at the moment, is resisting giving him protection money. His uncle wants him to start paying out the weekly five pounds to stop Frank’s men causing any more problems but Suliman knows once they start it will just keep on getting worse.
Billy talks Kenny into going undercover with Franks and Jacky to try and find out what is going on, in the meantime Suliman has been forced to close the shop in light of the constant harassment.
Franks is still trying to sabotage Mr Small’s election campaign using Jacky and Kenny to slash Small’s car tyres and threaten him over the phone. They are also still trying to shut down Suliman’s shop and move their focus to his mother instead.
Billy, having been set up by Franks, is accused of breaking into the arcade. Franks is willing to let the matter drop if Billy leaves Suliman alone. He won’t of course. At the same time Jacky and a pair of Franks men have given Suliman’s shop another going over. Later Jacky and his crew also give Billy a hard time
Mr Small has gone to the police over Franks and his intimidation. Meanwhile Des, Billy and Sarah have come up with a plan to put paid to Shastri and Frank’s attempts to shut down Suliman once and for all.
