Jarod gibt sich als Polizeibeamter aus, um das FBI bei der Suche nach dem entflohenen Häftling Kyle zu unterstützen. Dabei stellt er fest, dass der Gesuchte in Wirklichkeit vor dem "Center" und Mr. Raines auf der Flucht ist. Wie Jarod war er ein Opfer des Pretender-Projekts. Jarod vermutet ihn im "Dragon House" des "Centers" in New Jersey. Dort überrascht das Sweeper-Team Kyle, Harriet Tashman, die von ihm entführt wurde, und Jarod.
Dem Pretender und Harriet gelingt die Flucht. Von ihr erfährt Jarod, dass Kyle sein Bruder ist. Nun setzt er alles auf eine Karte: Um Kyle zu befreien, bricht er in das "Center" ein.
FORT REXFORD, NEW YORK - Jarod becomes aware that Kyle, another pretender from The Centre, is on the run from the law. Eager to find him, he becomes an F.B.I. agent to aid the investigation. But he discovers that Kyle may have something to do with his mother. Meanwhile, Miss Parker and Sydney recruit Angelo to go through all of Jarod's red notebooks. They figure he can become Jarod and thus aiding in his capture.
Jarod devient agent du FBI, sous le nom de Ness, et enquête sur l'évasion d'un détenu particulièrement violent, John Doe. Ce n'est pourtant pas la gravité de son casier judiciaire qui pousse Jarod à le rechercher, mais sa qualité de Caméléon. Enlevant Harriet Tashman, une femme qu'il a déjà agressée dix ans plus tôt, Kyle semble s'intéresser à quelque chose de très précis... Jarod poursuit ses investigations et trouve une maison appartenant à la victime. Il découvre bientôt qu'un couple ayant perdu son enfant s'y cachait. Il ne tarde pas à comprendre qu'il s'agit de ses parents et que l'enlèvement de Harriet est liée à sa propre histoire...
Jarod finge di essere un agente dell'FBI e aiuta a rintracciare un evaso, Kyle, che era un altro prigioniero del Centro fuggito da Mr. Raines, e viene inoltre a sapere da una donna che ospitava in casa sua madre che Kyle è suo fratello. Nel frattempo, Miss Parker cerca delle prove contro Mr. Raines; il Centro cattura Kyle, e Jarod (con un aiuto dall'interno) entra nel Centro per liberarlo, arrivando così vicino alla sua famiglia quanto mai lo è stato prima. Kyle apparentemente muore nell'esplosione di un camion... Jarod riesce ad intravedere sua madre e sua sorella a Boston, ma viene fermato da Mr. Raines, che viene colpito da un misterioso cecchino...
