At a summer function, two children are to be crowned king and queen. The nominees? Archie and Veronica; Reggie and Betty. All is well until it's revealed that almost all former winners have gone on to marry, and suddenly the gang's dreams are full of unpleasant fantasies of the future.

Tired of Reggie being so mean, the gang decides to try and win him over with kindness by throwing him a party. But with everybody acting so strangely around Reggie, he gets the gist of secret plans that don't involve him, and seeks to ruin their fun.
The gang is devastated when the old tree which houses their clubhouse is threatened to be destroyed, and set about trying to save it. They run into difficulties, however, when all their plans of attack are mysteriously thwarted by a secret opposition.
