Roxton wird von einem schwarzen Hengst entführt und in ein mittelalterliches Dorf gebracht, wo er zum König ausgerufen wird. Der Haken an der Sache ist: Als König muss Roxton gegen einen Drachen kämpfen, der das Dorf seit Urzeiten bedroht. Roxton lässt seine Freunde Malone, Challenger, Veronica und Marguerite holen, damit sie ihm beistehen. Nachdem noch ein intriganter Berater ausgeschaltet wurde, steht Roxton schließlich dem gigantischen Drachen gegenüber.
A riderless horse approaches our explorers, as if on a mission. When Roxton saddles up, the horse carries him to a mountain tribe, who welcome him as their king. Roxton tries to decline, but when the royal advisor, Balar, tells him that if he's an imposter; he shall die, Roxton reconsiders. Using the horse, Roxton tries to warn his friends. Balar has the horse followed and they are captured. One of the customs of the tribe is to sacrifice a virgin to appease a monstrous dragon, but Roxton saves the young woman and steps right into Balar's trap. The only way to stop the dragon now is for the rightful king to hunt it down and kill it.
Un cavall sense genet s'acosta als nostres exploradors. Quan en Roxton el munta, el cavall el porta fins a un llogaret medieval amagat a les muntanyes, ón és proclamat rei. En Roxton intenta declinar l'oferiment, però quan el conseller reial, Balar, li diu que si és un impostor morirà, ho reconsidera i accepta. Mitjantçant el cavall, en Roxton envia un missatge als seus amics que acudeixen a ajudar-lo. Un dels costums de la tribu és sacrificar una verge per apaivagar un drac monstruós, però en Roxton s'hi oposa i decreta la prohibició dels sacrificis. L'única manera d'aturar el drac ara és que el rei legítim s'hi enfronti en combat singular. Per altra banda en Roxton i els seus companys sospiten que el conseller reial és un manipulador que intenta desfer-se del rei.
