Traces of the life of Ned Kelly and the Kelly family during the period 1870-1880. The scene is Glenrowan, about 200 miles from Melbourne, where a small, inefficient and bigoted police force of 10 men maintains a brutal law and order over a bush territory half the size of Europe.
In the Kelly family's eldest son, Ned, the downtrodden of the area quickly found a champion. With his brothers Dan and Jim and relatives Steve Hart and Joe Byrne, the Kelly gang quickly established a reputation that spread the length and breadth of Australia.
Taking from the rich and giving to the poor gave the Kelly gang a 'Robin Hood' image to the folk around Glenrowan and many would shelter and feed them.
After month of hiding, the Kelly gang ride out for a final battle which culminates in Ned Kelly's legendary last stand.
