“The L Word” is an American-Canadian co-production television drama that aired on Showtime from January 18, 2004 to March 8, 2009. The series follows an ensemble cast of friends who live in West Hollywood, California and was the first American television series to feature an ensemble consisting of lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
In a time where there are more LGBTQ+ characters on television than ever before, it’s not enough just to have an LGBTQ+ character present — there needs to be nuance and depth to their story, and the slate of characters should reflect the full diversity of this colorful community.
