Hollywood Squares

"I love Hollywood! I love, Hollywood Squares!" So went the theme to the 4th incarnation of the enduring celebrity tic-tac-toe game, Hollywood Squares, which released on September 14-18, 1998. Talk show personality Tom Bergeron (People Are Talking & FOX After Breakfast) was the 4th Master of the Squares, while actress Whoopi Goldberg was this version's Paul Lynde (that's the center square). Though the game was modified during the run, the rules were largely identical to the classic versions "get three in a row, either up and down, across or diagonally before your opponent did. It is up to you to determine whether the answers the celebrities are giving are correct or they're just making them up." 2 Contestants competed each day (during the 1st season, 2 new ones each day; from the 2nd season on, there was a returning champion). In turn, each contestant chooses a celebrity to which Bergeron read a question.
