物語は、妻と娘との関係が何らかの理由でどん底に陥った男、志野屋礼太郎を中心にしています。妻の和美は奇妙な規則を課している。テープで封鎖された自宅の玄関を横切ることを禁じられ、妻と娘と交流することもできないのだ。彼は小さな部屋に閉じ込められ、そこで生活し、外から食べ物を食べることに満足し、毎日仕事に戻ります。出会ったある女性から自分が虐待を受けていると聞かされた彼は、家族との関係を新たにしようと、妻の奇妙な支配の理由を解明しようと試み始める。
