Elizabeth Szilagyi

Elizabeth Szilágyi (c. 1410–1483) was a Hungarian noblewoman, the wife of John Hunyadi and mother of King Matthias Corvinus. She played a significant political role after her husband’s death, leading the Szilágyi-Hunyadi League with her brother to secure her son’s release from captivity and his election as King of Hungary in 1458. Devoutly religious, she founded monasteries and raised her grandson, John Corvinus. Elizabeth lived mostly in Óbuda and passed away around 1483.
