Reba suspects that Brock and Barbra Jean are more lenient with the kids than she is, so she pokes around to find out just what Jake and Kyra get away with while in their care. Back at the Hart residence, Cheyenne and Van bicker over the constant attention they need to give their newborn baby girl. But Reba comes to the rescue with a plan for the feuding pair to reconnect and have some time away from their crying infant.
With Cheyenne, Van, and the baby living in student housing, things are finally back to normal and Reba plans to focus more attention on Kyra, who has become distant. However, her plans suddenly fall short when Van injures himself, suspending his scholarship and losing his off-campus housing, forcing the Montgomery family back into Reba's home.
With finances tight, Reba sets out to find a job but quickly learns that her many years of experience as a mother don't transfer over into the job field. When Cheyenne and Van happily announce that they've applied for food stamps, a very frustrated Reba swallows her pride and takes Brock up on his offer to give her a job in his dental office.
Reba sets aside her pride and accepts a job reporting to Barbra Jean in Brock's dental office. As if things couldn't get any worse, she also finds herself counseling Brock after Barbra Jean complains to Reba that Brock is neglecting her. Meanwhile, Cheyenne goes back to college and Van is left to play Mr. Mom at home with the baby.
In hopes of resuscitating her non-existent love life, Reba hits the bar scene with her friend Lori Ann but is mortified when they run into Brock, Barbra Jean, Cheyenne and Van on a double date. Cheyenne finally convinces a reluctant Reba to try speed dating, and everyone is surprised when she actually makes a love connection.
Reba begins to feel more comfortable in her relationship with Brian so she bravely invites him home to meet her family. Meanwhile, Brock and the kids are less than enthusiastic after they learn they have to attend Barbra Jean's family reunion in Fisheye Bottom. At the reunion, Brock runs scared of Barbra Jean's gun-toting father, Big Daddy, and Barbra Jean finds herself the butt of the joke when it comes to her older sister and brother-in-law.
Reba is disappointed to learn she'll be spending Christmas Eve alone, but while paying a visit to the local homeless shelter she meets a special person who teaches her the true meaning of the holiday season. Meanwhile, Cheyenne and Van's plan to start a new holiday tradition backfires; and Reba and Brock argue over who will be the one to give Jake his first bike for Christmas.
A sentimental Brock is so upset to find out that a strapped-for-cash Reba is selling her engagement ring on Ebay that he enters the bidding in an attempt to get the ring back. However, keeping the ring ""in the family"" takes a bizarre turn when Barbra Jean assumes the ring is for her. Meanwhile, Van decides it's time to buy Cheyenne a ring of her own, but is embarrassed when he is forced to choose between a cubic zirconia or a tiny diamond. Brock finds himself stuck between two irate women, Reba and a baby-crazed Barbra Jean, after he reveals that he had a secret vasectomy two years ago while he and Reba were trying to save their marriage. Meanwhile, following a pregnancy scare, Cheyenne and Van move out of the house in protest after a furious Reba lays down some new ground rules.
Attending an out-of-town funeral for Reba's college boyfriend, Reba and Brock take a walk down memory lane but are overwhelmed by feelings of guilt over the fact that Reba broke up with her boyfriend to run away with Brock. Back at home, Barbra Jean worries about Reba and Brock being alone together; and Cheyenne and Van get power hungry when they're left in charge of Kyra and Jake. Reba sings in the episode's final moments.
Reba is so freaked out about spending Valentine's Day with Brian that she pretends to be sick to get out of the date, but her plan backfires when he shows up with chicken soup and tells her he loves her. When Van and Cheyenne reconcile with Van's parents, Reba feels threatened by the extravagant gifts they shower on baby Elizabeth and the situation soon escalates into a competition over who are the better grandparents. Meanwhile, Cheyenne has difficulty adjusting to life now that Van has returned to the football team and has little time to spend with her.
At Jake's school auction, Reba's good intentions turn sour when Barbra Jean places the highest bid and wins Reba as her personal assistant for the day. Meanwhile, Cheyenne is overcome with jealousy when Van's private football lessons are the hit of the auction with women lined up to place their bids.
A near-death experience causes Reba to put her personal affairs in order and write a will. But when she persuades Cheyenne and Van to do the same, in the interest of naming a legal guardian for Elizabeth if something should happen to them, she soon has regrets when she learns that they have picked Brock and Barbra Jean.
Kyra's fine grades in social studies have earned her an invitation to study in England for the summer, but when Cheyenne announces that she must attend summer school to remain a full-time student, Reba discovers that her financial situation will only allow her to assist one of the girls. And it seems like good news when Brock and Barbra Jean announce that they are moving, until Reba finds out that the house they plan to buy is just around the corner.
Kyra's decision to move in with Brock and Barbra Jean leaves Reba reeling while the rest of the family tries to sort out their feelings of hurt, anger, and guilt. A series of flashbacks revisits the turbulent milestones in the family history that led them to this point including when Barbara Jean first meets the Hart family, where we find out Brock used to find her really annoying and Reba thought she was nice.
Barbra Jean becomes suspicious about Kyra's secretiveness and convinces Reba to hack in to Kyra's e-mail account. Barbra Jean and Reba discover that Kyra is planning to go to an unsupervised party and possibly go to the next level with a boy. Brock, Barbra Jean, and Reba all want to prevent Kyra from making the same mistake as Cheyenne so they stake out the party.
When Kyra asks Brock if he ever smoked marijuana, he is caught off guard and claims he never did. Brock's agonized confession that he did try pot, shocks Barbra Jean, while Reba is proud to say that she never used drugs. Meanwhile, Cheyenne makes a confession to Van about her own brush with the drug world.
Reba finally decides to clean up Kyra's room and send the stuff to her new house. Kyra sees this and suddenly becomes very secretive to Reba. Barbara Jean invites a counselor (Martin Mull) to help Brock and her communicate better. The rest of the family, excluding Jake, joins in on the session at Reba's house. Van feels that Cheyenne thinks he is incapable as a good father.
Van has a big away game coming up, but his superstistions for winning are getting on Cheyenne's nerves. The two of them ask Barabara Jean to watch Elizabeth while they're gone. After learning that Barabra Jean once lost Henry at the mall, Reba tries to take Elizabeth for herself. When that doesn't work, Reba offers to go to the zoo with Henry, BJ, and Elizabeth.
When Van announces to the family that he's quitting school to tryout for Arena football, the family gets excited that this may be his chance to play professionally. However, a protective Reba lets Van know she thinks quitting school is a huge mistake. A nervous Van ends up not going to the tryout, which when Reba finds out she tries to get him a second chance. Meanwhile, Cheyenne passes her Dentistry test with a B+.
Over Brock and Barbra Jean's objections, Reba gives Kyra permission to go on her first date, then discovers the boy is 17 years old. As the three adults panic, they decide to spy on Kyra's date and end up ruining it. Meanwhile, Van believes that Jake is the victim of a classroom injustice and confronts the boy's teacher.
The entire Hart clan goes into panic mode when Kyra disappears from Brock and Barbra Jean's house in the middle of the night. Meanwhile, an exuberant Van can't understand why Cheyenne is petrified at the thought of appearing with him on a cable sports show, but the tables quickly turn once the cameras start rolling.
Reba is ready to ring Barbra Jean's neck after she finds out that the crazy blonde has secretly planned a blind date for her favorite redhead. To make things even worse, Barbra Jean announces that she and Brock will be coming along on a double date. Meanwhile, Van gets carried away with his bonus money and buys a sports car without including Cheyenne in the big decision.
Reba has problems with Kyra going out on a date alone with her 17 year old boyfriend, so she asks Cheyenne and Van to double date with them. Later, Kyra gets dump because she would not "take the next step" in the relationship. Meanwhile, Barbara Jean believes Brock is cheating on her and asks Reba to interrogate him.
Cheyenne celebrates her 21st birthday with a Girl's Night out called Cheyenneoploza with Reba and Barbara Jean since they are the only ones over 21. Van wants Cheyenne to tell her what she wants for a gift but Cheyenne wants him to pick something she will like. Meanwhile Reba and BJ are fighting over Brock taking "Happy Pills". Reba finally comes to terms with Barbara Jean's craziness. Kyra comes to accept that her Dad is not perfect and is human too.
After Brock moves back into the condo, Barbara Jean dresses up like she is going out having a blast moving on. Reba's intuition tells her that Kyra was cancelling their mother-daughter dinner dates because she was stuck babysitting Henry. But it turns out Brock has Henry and BJ is just acting. Reba tells Kyra to come home, but Kyra says she needs to stay with Barbara Jean to help her get through the seperation.
Reba notices that BJ has been spending too much time moping around the house so she talks her into going out to the bars again and living it up. Barbara Jean not wanting to go alone talks Reba into joining her. She insists that they must follow "The Two Girl Theory" and go as a pair cause one woman going alone looks desperate but two women look like they're going out for the fun. Van talks to Jake about the birds and the bees.
Reba encourages Brock to follow his heart if that means pursuing his dream of playing professional golf, but Barbra Jean is less-than-thrilled with Reba's advice, worrying that it will mean the end of her marriage. Meanwhile, Cheyenne tries to assuage Van's hysteria that playing arena football in Denver is costing him precious time with his daughter, who, unbeknownst to her father, recently started pre-school.
Already concerned about Van living part-time in Denver, Cheyenne is fit to be tied when she learns that Van lied about having to return to Denver early cause he couldn't take anymore of Cheyenne's family events. Meanwhile, an overjoyed Reba is faced with a difficult predicament when Kyra contemplates moving back home, a situation that may result in more damage to Kyra's relationship with her father, Brock.
Reba and Barbra Jean clash over who is going to host Thanksgiving dinner. However, a compromise is reached when Barbra Jean offers to share cooking duties, while allowing Reba to keep the celebration at her house as usual. Unfortunately, the plan leads to hurt feelings when Barbra Jean confesses she still feels like an outsider compared to Reba, who is always at the center of the family's attention
Against Barbra Jean's atypical "better" judgment, Reba allows Kyra to spend time with her boyfriend, Chip, without adult supervision, but she is forced to question her decision after Jake confesses that Kyra and Chip broke house rules, spending time upstairs in Kyra's room. Meanwhile, Cheyenne accompanies Van to Denver for the first time expecting to find his new apartment in complete disarray. However, much to her disappointment, Van's apartment is in immaculate condition and he is clearly relishing in his newfound independence.
When Reba decides to pursue a career in real estate after losing her current job, Brock reluctantly agrees to let Reba handle the sale of his precious condo. Unfortunately, the situation gets a little sticky when Reba receives a great offer, but Brock refuses to sell, validating Barbra Jean's concern that Brock is holding on to his bachelor pad as a security blanket. Meanwhile, Van begrudgingly chaperones Kyra so she can perform with her band at a club, but Van quickly changes his tune when he sees real talent in Kyra and offers to manage the band.
Jake enters Reba in a school fundraiser - "Pageant of the Grandmas" knowing that she is hot and will win. When Barbara Jean hears about it, she wants to enter too. Reba lets her and drops out, only to find that Jake really wanted her to be in it. She decides that she will compete -- against Barbara Jean.
Reba persuing her career in real estate, scores an interview with the biggest real estate agent in Houston- Dolly Majors. As Barbara Jean helps her prepare, Dolly makes a surprise apperance at Reba's house to test her abilities. Reba's selling ability gets her the job only to found out she might not be the shark-like seller that Dolly is looking for.
Brock not spending enough time with Jake decides to coach a football team on which Jake will try out for. After the first practice, Brock tells the others how pathetic Jake was, not knowing how great of a time Jake had. Reba decides that they will improve his skills by getting Van to train him. Van, being emotional, doesn't want to because of memories of him with his dad.
Struggling to remain sober, Cheyenne starts taking pills that will make her violently ill if she drinks alcohol. When Reba throws a party for her real estate clients, Van and Cheyenne go to great lengths to try and stop Reba from drinking after she accidentally takes one of Cheyenne's pills, thinking it's a vitamin. Meanwhile, ex-smokers Brock and Barbra Jean lecture Kyra and Jake on the dangers of smoking, but that doesn't stop Brock from secretly lighting up.
Barbra Jean takes it upon herself to find the perfect man for Reba by signing her up at an online dating service, but she later regrets her decision when Reba begins dating a mystery man and doesn't have as much time for the her or the family. As a result, Cheyenne and Van realize how much work it takes to care for their daughter without Reba's help, and Barbra Jean and Brock, who wants to make sure he's better looking than Reba's new boyfriend, decide to check out their competition.
After watching her fiercest competitor make a killing in the real estate market, Reba decides it's time to start investing. However, she can't do it alone with her bad credit, so Cheyenne suggests that Reba and Van team up. Later, when Reba finds out that Van went behind her back and purchased a home "as is," without any inspections, she wants out of the partnership. Meanwhile, Barbra Jean is feeling neglected by Brock and finds companionship from an unlikely source - the operator from her car's navigation system.
The Hart family becomes concerned when Van continuosly sits at home watching football instead of attending church. After many failed attempts in talking him into going, Reba and Barbra Jean confront him on his refusal. Van confesses that he no longer believes in God, greatly disappointing Reba and Barbra Jean. To try and bring Van to God, they drag him to Reverend Parks who tells Reba and Barbra Jean that he can't help the people who don't want help. Reba in a heated discussion finally admits to the Reverend that she too has had her doubts.
When Reba and Jake take in a stray dog that survived Hurricane Katrina, Van and Cheyenne invite the owners to stay at the house until they can get back on their feet. However, the Harts are in for a big surprise when it turns out there are 18 people in the displaced family. Meanwhile, Barbra Jean heads up the "Save the Dog" campaign and turns her house into a shelter for lost pets, leaving dog-hating Brock more than annoyed.
Realizing that his wife, Barbra Jean, has taken up eating as a hobby and gained quite a bit of weight as a result, Brock consults Reba on how best to handle the delicate situation. Ultimately, Cheyenne is the one who confronts Barbra Jean about her food addiction, suggesting that she and Reba go on a diet with her.
When Cheyenne declines Brock's offer to intern at his dental office, the family finds out she no longer wants to become a dentist. Instead she plans to devote her life to helping people. Reba, Van and Brock are upset by this and visit the senior center where Cheynne has been volunteering and discover that she's been "helping" by giving the women makeovers. Meanwhile, Barbra Jean's attempt to get picked for jury duty backfires after she annoys the judge.
After a miscommunication sends Barbra Jean to her brother Buzzard's house in Lubbock for Thanksgiving, Buzzard mistakenly ends up on Reba's doorstep for the holiday. The family soon realizes they may have traded crazy Barbra Jean for her even crazier brother, who believes that Reba has been sending him love letters signed "Peaches" and that Brock is "the dirtbag who's trying to take my sister to hell with him."
After observing their constant bickering in the real estate office, Reba and Van's boss insists they see the company's occupational therapist to work things out. Meanwhile, Brock and Barbra Jean consult a sleep doctor who suggests they videotape themselves in bed to find out why Brock is waking up exhausted and achy every morning.
When Brock decides to camp out at Reba's house while Barbra Jean is away in St. Louis, Reba gets fed up and tries to kick him out. However, Brock is diagnosed with kidney stones and doesn't want to be left alone, so Reba ends up caring for him. Meanwhile, Cheyenne volunteers at a homeless shelter, but is disappointed when she is assigned the unglamorous task of doing dishes in the kitchen.
Reba doesn't approve of Barbra Jean's method of disciplining Henry. However, when Jake lies and blames Henry for breaking Reba's lamp, Reba is forced to apologize for criticizing Barbra Jean's parenting skills. Meanwhile, Brock and Van are mistaken for a gay couple when they spend their "guy time" at a day spa.
After Brock and Barbra Jean get audited, Brock informs Reba that the IRS is going to audit the last five years of their marriage. Later, Brock makes Reba nervous when she discovers that he has a few secrets he doesn't want the IRS to find out about. Meanwhile, Cheyenne makes Van take part in her sociology project about a man's perspective on marriage, but she certainly wasn't anticipating all the attention he would receive from the women in her class.
In the wake of Barbra Jean spilling the beans to the IRS that Reba and Brock owe $75,000 in back taxes, an embarrassed Brock decides the only way he can pay off the debt is by selling his house and moving to Las Vegas. When Van hears the news, he aims to become Brock's broker and a devastated Barbra Jean tries to change Brock's mind.
When Reba learns that Van is in charge of the family budget and has Cheyenne documenting all her purchases in an expense journal, she advises him to treat Cheyenne more as an equal. Unfortunately, Van decides the best solution is to start giving Cheyenne a weekly allowance for her household duties, which obviously doesn't sit well with his wife. Meanwhile, Barbra Jean discovers that Jake has started a lucrative business selling soda - against school policy - to his classmates.
Dr. Jack Morgan moves back to town and tries to rekindle his relationship with Reba, However, Jack reveals to a shocked Reba that he is technically still married. Reaching the startling conclusion that she has unknowingly become the "Barbra Jean" in her relationship, Reba goes to an unlikely source for advice - Brock.
After the family makes fun of Reba's poor eyesight, she secretly gets laser eye surgery, which leaves her temporarily blind. Barbra Jean insists on helping Reba post-surgery while the rest of the family is away. Later, thinking she is talking to Cheyenne, Reba badmouths Barbra Jean, only to find out she's been talking to Barbra Jean the whole time.
Reba is worried when she and Brock must attend an anger management therapy session that was mandated by the court during their divorce. Cheyenne and Van are required to be present as well, and Reba fears things have gone from bad to worse when everyone starts arguing in front of the therapist. Later, Barbra Jean crashes the session and the five adults end up telling the therapist about the crazy things they have done to each other over the years.
When Barbra Jean takes up selling insurance, she wants Reba to be her first client. After Reba's physical shows that she has high blood pressure, she finds out she's at risk to lose her old insurance policy. Meanwhile, Van seeks out Brock's advice in coming up with a unique anniversary present for Cheyenne.
After collapsing at Van and Cheyenne's non-wedding, Reba is rushed to the hospital. The family is panicked about her health, but she only wants to focus on helping Van and Cheyenne resolve their relationship troubles. Meanwhile, Barbra Jean tries to help Reba feel better, but only makes Reba's blood pressure continue to climb.
After Barbra Jean's successful weight loss, Reba becomes worried that she'll soon become the chubby friend and starts to eat healthy. Meanwhile, Brock is becoming suspicious that Barbra Jean maybe having an affair with her trainer, Jordan, leading him to ask Reba to check out what is really happening at the gym.
The biggest real estate company in town has called and Reba convinces Van to place his loyalty aside and come with her to see what their intentions are only to find out they just want Van and not her. Meanwhile, Brock is worried that Barbra Jean's new look is going to make her look elsewhere so he goes through some interesting changes to impress her.
After Van declines the offer from Norris, he decides to build an office in the Hart's garage for him and Reba to work from. Reba questioning his decision finds out that Cheyenne is pregnant again but was told not to let Cheyenne know he told her. Meanwhile, with only 10 months to college, Kyra decides to move back in with Reba. Reba gets Cheyenne to confess only to also learn that they plan on moving out. Reba is torn emotionally with the return of Kyra and the probable move of Van and Cheyenne.
After constant persuasion, Van accepts the job from Steve Norris. Reba supports his decision to move to a bigger Real Estate firm but refuses to let Van take their client list leading to the ultimate Real Estate battle. Meanwhile, Barbra Jean pursues one of her dreams of becoming a TV News Weather Woman.
In order to keep her unborn baby from ending up like Kyra, Cheyenne tries to redeem good karma by giving back Kyra's 5th birthday party that Cheyenne destroyed years ago. Meanwhile, Cheyenne is driving Van crazy with a 20 page list of things to do before the baby arrives. Reba, as always, is caught in the middle with the challenge of fixing all the family problems.
Barbra Jean who is training an up and coming weather woman from Oklahoma (Kelly) fears she will soon take her job. At first Reba adores Kelly but when she realizes Kelly is just like Barbra Jean in every way, Reba comes to see that perhaps she hasn't forgiven Barbara Jean like she thought. Meanwhile, finding out they're having a boy, Van and Cheyenne have to find a way to break the promise Cheyenne made when she was younger to name her first son - Brock.
Reba is ordered to relax in order to bring her blood pressure back down, but that is impossible with Brock living in the garage to avoid fighting with Barbara Jean. His constant lies lead Barbara Jean to believe he's out of town and Reba argues for him to just be honest with his wife. Meanwhile, Van sees his father in himself as he gets fired for his temperament while coaching Jake's lousy soccer team with Jake being the worse player.
Reba and Brock are shocked when Kyra tells them that she is postponing college to go on tour with her band. Unfortunately, when Reba puts her foot down and tells Kyra that she won't allow her to make this huge mistake, Kyra decides to move out. Meanwhile, Cheyenne and Van can't agree on how to decorate their new house.
While Van and Cheyenne settle into their new home, they realize they have their own "Barbra Jean" who constantly comes over unannounced and uninvited - Reba. Meanwhile, Barbra Jean uses her divorce process with Brock to dramatize at her new news-weatherwoman job as Stormy Clearweather on the newscasts to bring in new fans.
When Van's poor home improvements skills causes a small fire in their home, Reba allows them to stay at her house until they get everything back in order. Meanwhile, Barbra Jean turns down an out of state job promotion to make it work with Brock. With everyone at a happy state in their life; they all realize they had a crazy six years but they made it through because "They're Survivors".
