Quincy wird zu einem schweren Unfall auf einer Baustelle gerufen. Einem jungen Arbeiter wurde der linke Arm abgetrennt. Obwohl es nahezu hoffnugslos scheint, bringt Quincy den Schwerverletzten samt Arm auf der Stelle in eine Spezial-Klinik. Der dort tätige Arzt, Dr. Gabriel McCracken, ist der visionäre Kopf der Stiftung ‚Experiment der Hoffnung‘, die sich besonders schwierigen Fällen widmet.
