Die vorwitzige Seemannstochter Pippi Langstrumpf kommt in die Villa Kunterbunt. Sie will dort für längere Zeit alleine wohnen. Doch der sozial engagierten Frau Prysselius gefällt das gar nicht. Sie möchte, dass Pippi in ein Kinderheim kommt.
Pippi Longstocking arrives in a small Swedish town to take up residence in her Villa. The young girl lives with her companions, Horse and Mr. Nilsson (a monkey). All the townsfolk agree that the village will never quite be the same again. Annika and Tommy, Pippi's new neighbors, are excited about the adventures they are sure to share with their new friend; and the adults are certain that this eccentric little girl with her wild imagination, incredible strength and lack of parental supervision will cause no end of trouble.

En helt vanlig, rätt trist dag, spelar Tommy och Annika krocket på tomten. Mitt emot deras eget hus ligger ett övergivet hus i en vildvuxen trädgård, Villa Villekulla. Men, helt plötsligt upptäcker de att någon faktiskt flyttat in där. Och snart är Tommy och Annika bästa vänner med Pippi Långstrump, världens starkaste flicka!
