Windows 8 has just been released but how will users react when they encounter it for the first time? Diana Adams has been using Windows XP for a long time. Her son has her try out Windows 8 for the first time to see how she fairs. Even with the most basic of task that she is accustom to in XP cause her to struggle in 8. In the end she literally slams the door on Windows 8 and is ready to give up on computers.
Diana Adams has been a long time Windows XP user, but now in 2012 her son has her try out new systems. After experiencing Windows 8, Diana is ready to give up on modern operating systems. However Ubuntu brings back her faith in modern operating systems after easily completing seven task.
In the first experiment, Philip had his mother try out Windows 8. During that time, Diana called Windows 8 "Cartoonish", "Childish" and "Like the first version of Windows as if every version ever released has been an improvement on windows 8". It is now time for her to experience the true first version of Windows; with Windows 1.0 released in 1985 and see what her impressions are.
Diana said Windows 8 was the worst OS ever! She changed her mind after using Windows 1.0 (1985) to thinking all newer versions of windows were better, except for Windows 8... Well, Philip decided to put her theory to the test once again and get her to try out Windows 3.11 released in 1993. However, this experiment takes an unexpected twist when QBasic is opened.
Windows 3.1 was a little hard to use for Diana just like it was for those who used it in 1992-1995. So it was time for Microsoft to make a revolutionary interface to make using the computer as easy as doing tasks in your home. Microsoft released Microsoft BOB in 1995 to solve this issue. However BOB absolutely flopped. Watch a first timer’s first hand, unbiased/unleaded attempt with BOB. Diana was told that it was designed to make using the computer super easy but was never told if it succeeded or not till after. Does Diana repeat history or find that BOB is the improvement needed for Windows.
Diana is back again with another distro of her favorite kernel so far: Linux. Last time she tried Ubuntu, currently the most popular version of Linux, but this time she has decided to try Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition 14 as requested by a viewer . Does she like it?
So far, Diana has tried Windows and Linux versions, however it is time for her to try the other major family of Systems: Mac OS. Although it was a long slow process for Diana to get used to OSX 10.2 Jaguar and confidently able to use it she loved it by the end of the video. She even declared it favorite operating system tried to date taking the lead and pushing Linux Mint to 2nd place.
Diana is at it again and this time trying an operating system while its still in beta testing. Overall this is the fastest operating system she has encountered so far but sadly its not her favorite. She is put off by the strange naming convention of the programs pre-installed with the operating system, but does like its speed.
Diana tried Ubuntu but what about it's official derivative Kubuntu? Yes... the operating system with an optional red bouncing ball that you can throw around your desktop, along with all of the other widgets available. She does find it better than Ubuntu, but Linux Mint is still her favorite Linux distro.
For a Windows XP user, Zorin 6.1 was the perfect Linux operating system for Diana. So perfect in fact that it has beat her previous favorite Linux operating system: Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition 14. But could it even beat Windows XP?
We all know Diana thinks "Windows 8 is the worst operating system" but Philip has a little trick up his sleeve to get her to change her mind. Diana quickly discovers that MS-DOS, Microsoft’s text based operating system made developed in the 1980's and 1990's, could be worst then Windows 8.
Diana tries a cloud operating system for the first time in her life. She doesn't hate it but at the same time she doesn't love it. Being able to access the operating system from a web browser, USB, local PC installation, iPad, iPhone and many other places is a plus for her. Unfortunately, it is not very intuitive and she needs Philip’s help quite a bit to complete the given tasks.
Diana has tried 12 different operating systems so far but what's her favorite and least favorite operating systems? Although she tried to compare operating systems generally at the end of each video these were not accurate opinions since the period between trying different operating systems was so long that she forgot what each operating system was actually like. Now she has re-watched her videos and chosen the worst 3 and the best 3 operating systems.
