Místem, způsobem provedení i zasílanými zprávami čin připomíná obdobný, ke kterému došlo v 70. letech a z něhož byl obviněn protiválečný aktivista Matthew Stirling, který krátce po obvinění zmizel. Přes analýzu složení bomby a údaje, kdo měl k materiálu přístup, FBI obviní doktorku Sarah Kempleovou, která se k činu ze 70. let okamžitě dozná. Odmítá však, že by měla něco společného s novou explozí.
